If you fight someone who knows what they are doing it's not too difficult to redirect to the kick and get on you deadside where you will be wide open for a knice head shot. But it is a Powerful kick and has it's uses.

All stlyes are created 100% equal. just like everything else in life and it's impossible for anything to be better than anything else..Stlyle makes no diffence .........

Brazilian Jujutsu
TJS replied to King of Fighters's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
BJJ does have some striking...You learn things like various knees from the certain positions..a few elbows...the large majority of it is grappling but i does have a handful of strikes..that is if it's a good school. -
what would that be?

Utilizing Tae Kwon Do for combat
TJS replied to aznkarateboi's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
So stlye makes no diffrence? if someone trained as hard in Tae bo and Tai chi then they would be just as good if they had train in Muay Thai and Jiu jitsu? Ultimately it does come down to the person a stlye can only give you the tools but It's a bit naive to think all stlyes are created 100% equal. why would they all be the equal? is it impossible for something to be more effective than something else? -
Muay Thai vs Krav Maga

Not today, I dont think..back in the day they used to ...but MT has become more sport oriented than when it was created. -
Countering the BJJ fighter
TJS replied to ZR440's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
or a.. Single leg..or a hip toss....or a shoulder throw....or them pulling you into gaurd...or a sweep...or the billions of other ways to get someone on the ground...a double leg is usually a wrestlers choice... -

Add leg kicks, emphasize high kicks less, add clinch fighting and ground fighting, more hand combos, punching to the head while sparring, adding more realistic sparring. Those would be the main ones imo. oh also I see things like "well we learned this one wrist lock and they showed us an elbow once, so we learn elbows and grappling" -
Do blackbelts have a responsibility to....
TJS replied to karatefox's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
no, not if it means they are going ot be the one in trouble...I know it sounds like a bad thing...but if you see 15 guys beating someone up and try to stop them it's going ot end up 12 guys beating 2 guys up..but it's a personal decision..if you feel you can help without putting youselef in a huge amount of danger than i would. -
Muay Thai vs Krav Maga
TJS replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Well One of the Senior Inctructors in L.A. named John Whitman Has Sparred With a few world class Muay Thai Fighters and while in a ring he said they can usually stick it to him pretty good but once they add groin kicks its throws alot of them off their game..they are simply not used to dealing with groin kicks and it turns the odds around...most people are not..but this is not always the case Some MT fighters do protect their groings well. Just one example.. -
anyone know anything bad about krav maga?
TJS replied to robodjs's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Generally most people think the opposite...one of the main things in mind when it was designed was that it needed to be taught quickly. Compared to most things out there it's alot easier to learn IMO.. -
What would you do if you ended up in a street fight and someone pulled you into their gaurd? looking for a response from everyone here not just grapplers. And also dont try to come up with some elaborate scheme just post what you thing you would really do at the spur of the moment Thanks Guys

I spar with one of my instcructors and a few other guys every once and a while..Outside of class that is...but it's not point sparring

Muay Thai vs Krav Maga
TJS replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Here are my Thoughts on the Matter- Krav Maga Is going to better prepeare you for a street altercation and here is why- KM teaches you how to fight from a disadvantage..like someone choking you from behind, slaming you into a wall, has you in a headlock, tackles you etc..the techniques are not only designed to work under stress as in the follow instinctive reactions..they are designed to still work if you are late...KM deals with just about every range of the fight. Muay Thai is Arguably the most effective standup fighting stlye in the world..If you look at the KM and MT they are very similar though..Kicks are nearly identical...Knees from the clinch/elbows etc...and the hands of KM are basically western boxing..In standup though i would give the edge to MT and here is why..in KM you spend alot of time working on things like choke breaks, escapes, weapon defenses, takedown defenses, ground fighting etc...while it MT you are going to foucus 100% on standup fighting..so it's obvious who is going ot have more experience in that range If it were a real NHB fight like Vale tudo or Early UFC stlye MY bet would proabably on KM.if we are talking pure style vs stlye..because A) KM spars with Groing kicks/knees and Most MT fighters really arent not used to that.(I have heeard a few stories of KM vs MT ) B) KM does have some grappling/groundfighting..while it's not the extent that BJJ has or anything its more than you will see in MT since there is none. Im not bashing MT by any means It is bruatally effective in standup fighting Cross train in some grappling and you have a deadly combo...but KM simply has to many weapons in single stlye vs stlye comparisons. Just my thoughts. -
anyone know anything bad about krav maga?
TJS replied to robodjs's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
no, I have plenty of fun Taking KM..sparring/grappling/working out etc and There actually are "flashy" high kicks, spinning kicks etc...but they are later on so that A)-you learn how to defend against them..(lets face it half the people on planet earth have studied TKD at one time or another) B) doing such kicks will improve your balance, corrdination, etc.. generally for example if you can throw good high kicks then your low kicks will be awsome. So like i said KM Is far from boring imo. -

TJS replied to robodjs's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think it takes a little less time to throw a punch or or make a defense then to pull out a gun from wherever it is while they are bashing you head in..thats assuming they dont take the gun from you once you have taken a few nice head shot. -

TJS replied to robodjs's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Aznkarateboi-thousands of people get mugged/beatup/raped/murdered all the time...im sure the large majority never though it would happen to them. Most people dont train in any self defense/fighting system..why? because they think things like that dont happen to them..or they dont worry about it...unfortuantly it does happen to alot of people. So if you think people are wasting their time by learning to effectively defend themselves then maybe you should rethink things. About your whole "buy a Gun" do you really think that you can carry a gun around with you everywhere you go? do you think you will always be able to acces it at the spur of the monent? People usually dont ask you if your ready before they attack you. So really the whole "get a gun" thing isint a valid reason for not learning how to defend yourself unarmed. -
anyone know anything bad about krav maga?
TJS replied to robodjs's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
sure, there is nothing wrong with playing basketball or gymnastics...as long as you realize what they are for...generally people take MA to learn how to defend themselves or fight since that is what they were made for...If thats not important thats fine...but thats just generally how people judge martial arts. -
Actually I do study a Combat stlye.

MMA or traditional
TJS replied to kick_azz's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Ok thats 2 against the dozens i read about and hear from everyday...you got me now...do you really belive my statment is false? do you think there are more people switching from modern/mma stlye to traditional stlyes than the other way around?
