yep, Hand to hand combat Instills the "warrior spirit" in them...so they know they can fight no matter what..even if they are unarmed. like you said H2H plays alot smaller role these days but it's still important..I was just reading 2 diffrent storied about army rangers in AFganistan who got into h2h combat when going door to door..one war confronted with an AK-47 and proceeded to knock him out with an elbow.

luta livre the same as bjj?
TJS replied to kle1n's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
no...it's a Gi less version with more leg locks and strikes...but it's very similar. -
very true, But Krav Maga does have groundfighting incase it ends up there..it's more of how to either hurt them or get up as quickly as possible though instead of working for a submission.

TJS replied to 3 Rivers Taekwondo's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
do you mean open tournaments against other stlyes..or only fighting against other TKD practitioners? -
practice practice practice...just punch the bag..punch the mitts etc..kick the bag work on technique.

I perosnally think Krav Maga is the best option for soldiers. Muay Thai and BJJ would also be a nice combo.

Boxing VS. Aikido
TJS replied to Tombstone's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I have heard Aikido does not have any real defense for a the Jab simply because it's not a power punch....not sure how that works..but like i said thats just what i heard. -
TKD + Boxing
TJS replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
hands are the most important thing in a fight IMO..boxing is far from a complete stlye but it gives you the tools to be great. I persoanally think MT + boxing is one of the best combinations around. In theory TKD and boxing Sounds good But I would stick to MT if thats an option. -

The diffrence between a BJJ black belt and many stlyes is that if they can ALWAYS fight...A BJJ black belt is respected because you dont have to toss a coin.. in most stlyes a black dosent always mean they have skill. -

No single stlye has been able to cosistently beat BJJ in NHB fighting in the last 50 years. I would consider that Pretty Dominate. Many of the greatest fighters of the world have traveled to Thailand and very few have been able to gain a Victory. No single Style has been able to consistently beat Muay Thai in standup fighting. I would consider that prett dominate. Redicuoulous, The greatest men in history of MA have always been willing to put their skills to the test against others...Mas Oyama, Helio Gracie etc.. I could claim to be the best Basketball player in the world but I choose not to ever play a single proffesional game in my life..so what? I could claim to be the best boxer in the world and never fight a bout in my life..who would believe that? and why should they? -
I have heard yes and no about forms in Kyokushin Karate..?

ring fighting with limited rules for both party alway has been and always will be the best judge of what techniques work and what dont. I train very much for realistic self defense..i know the diffrence between sport and reality..but people try and downplay it's usefulness.
