TMA vs. Grapplers

I wouldn't consider throws or chokes a groundfighting technique, but that's just me. I'd say joint manipulation types of moves are grappling. he said grappling not ground fighting...you do know that you dont have to be on the ground to grapple right? Chokes and Throws are most certainly grappling. Dosent say anything about having to be on the ground. -

he won by taking his opponet down and achieving the mount position. he also won a fight or two by arm-bar....sounds like a grappler to me. -

Is a Movie Just released on video by the Machado brothers, while it is a VERY low budget movie and dosent really have a plot or great acting it does have one thing, It has some great fight seens that show how BJJ is/would be used in real situations. I think alot of people would be suprised by some of the fighting stuff in it. If you intrested In seeing that aspect of BJJ i would reccomend it.

Help with the Triangle
TJS replied to Scorcho's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Do you angle off to the same side as the top leg that is going across the kneck? For example if my Right leg was across the top, hooked under my left knee, I would angle out to the right? I sometimes have difficulting closing a triangle on larger people -

We do it every single class at my school, but it's Krav Maga not karate.
-
I would suggest learning how to fight first.

how does this school look?
TJS replied to TakeItEasy's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Look's legit, just mkae sure you get the instructors credintials..as far as how long he has trained and under who. -
yes there are certain stlyes that cover all aspect's of a fight. but generally speaking they are great for self defense purposes. I may be biased but i think Krav Maga is an excellent example of this. But you cany be a master of all trades, it is important ot be well rounded but i think you have to find your bread and butter.

Muay thai was designed for the military wheni t was created. so was Tae Kwon Do , Jiu jitsu was used by samurai. Most Martial art's were not designed as sports, it just happens some do better than other adapting ot them. -
point fighting
TJS replied to Martial Law's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
you could also say chess requires more planning and skill but chess dosent advertise as teaching you how to fight. nothing wrong with point sparring or chess as long as you realize what you are doing. -
There is a Belt System in Krav Maga, however it is not empasized like in most systems and belts are not worn in Clas-s(why wont it let me write cla-ss??) " Most people wear a T-shirt and some sort of workout pants/shorts, although some wear Krav Maga Shirts/pants if they want to. You also wear shoes during training.
