Kimo Went Toe to Toe with a 375 pound Beast named Bob Sapp and almost knocked him out in a kickboxing match He did Beat Pat smith who Won the Sabaki Challenge in a Kickboxing match. Kimo Choked out one of the greatest brawlers in UFC history in 1 round(Tank abbott) He TKO's 350 pound paul varlens. after all of this A 170 pound guy gets crap for not winning fast enough or well enough for them. Some people really need to think about the reality of things. As far as the "street" goes Kimo would have had 2 things going against him. 1) he wouldent expect someone who looked like Royce to fight like that and he certainly wouldent know what to expect from him. 2) Kimo would have likely been wearing clothes...that would have made it easier for Royce most likely. ANY other 170 pound fighter in the world at the time would have been pounded into a bloody mess.

Ricco certainly has a good chance of winning by cut or ref stoppage from GNP. I dont think he will submitt pedro though. Rizzo has the tools to beat Ricco But it depends on how he shows up mentally. THis is kind of a last straw fight for both guys so it should be good.

Muay Thai or Shootfighting?
TJS replied to Anzie's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
have you ever actually seen a grappler vs striker match? where have you been the last 10 years? You have it turned around...ever watch the first 10 or so UFC's where grapplers and wrestlers almost always dominated strikers? ever seen any of the countless challenge matches that have taken place all over the world? Can you name one example of a Well know grappler loosing to a pure striker? -
Boxing vs Judo
TJS replied to MMouse's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Although more sport oriented todays Judo Still has the potential to be lethal if taught correctly. Infact I read a story of a judo Blck belt killing a bank robber the other day. There is also the story of the German Juso guy killing the axe murderer in canada. -
BJJ at college...
TJS replied to JeffN10's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
It depends on the experience level of the BJJ instructor i guess. if they already have succesful school/buisnesses they might want more than if they were a small school or just getting started. -
I agree but you also have to take into account that 99% of the people at those schools could hold their own or more against most people.

takedowns
TJS replied to martialartsresearcher's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Sprawling is not a takedown at all. Sprawling is what youd o when someone shoots in for a takedown on you..you sprawl you legs back and drop down on top of them. It's proabably the best single takedown defense you can learn for the street or otherwise. -
wc vs mt
TJS replied to kle1n's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I have seen 3 WC videos on the net so far. 1st one is WC vs Kyokushin-WC guy gets kicked in the Head an knocked out. 2nd) A WC guy puts up a challenge match for a large sum of money to anyone who can beat him...A NHB fighter named John Marsh fights him and breaks his arm making him tap out and scream like a girl... 3rd) a WC guy back in one of the early UFC's against a wrestelr named dave benatau..WC guy gets double legged..mounted and punched into a bloody mess within 15 seconds. I have heard quite a few stories of other fighters aswell. If there are more videos or stories of WC guys winning I would certainly love to see them...I have no biased about WC, why would I? I go by what i see and hear like everyone..If you have any videos or stories from the WC point of view i would love to see them. -
cool, Im debating what to do with my daughter once she gets a little older..I dont want to push her into anything or start too young.

nothing worng with studying more than one stlye if they blend well. however I think it's important to get A GOOD BASE in a certain stlye of fighting such as If you study Judo, Aikido and Brazilian jiu jitsu then you are learning similar concepts and a somewhat similar stlye of fighting. Or If you study Boxing and Muay thai at the same time. What would be difficult is if you studied say... Capoiera, karate and Traditional jiu jitsu..you wouldent really get a good foundation. Hope i got across what i was tring to say..

1st) If Antonio Rodrigo Nogiura didint know and standup fighting he would have been knocked out in the first minute. 2nd) he didint just knock him down he has been working with wrestlers and performed what is called a double leg takedown. 3rd) it was an Arm Bar he caugt him in, Lastly yes I think without cross training a grappler is more likely to win becuase it is easier for him to close the distance and grapple than it is to keep. Some people attempt to deny this but they have obviously been living in a closet the last 10 years.. Today cross training is neccesary..If a striker is good enough to avoid the takedowns and avois submission then he can make the grappler play his game and knock him out. Grapplers have to learn how to survive on their feet and get a takedown if they dont they will get knocked out...you are seeing more grapplers not being able to stand and take people down...but obviously the good ones have evolved and cross train aswell. -

Seems every WC practicioner to ever fight in a torunament or challenge match across the planet " isint good" . Maybe that says something in general. Looking at it from a non biased point of view MT has held the upper hand over a broad span of fighters and events. it's statistics. -
Name your toughest ground fighter!!
TJS replied to Slider's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
He did have a War with Dan Henderson, Matt hughes beat him up pretty bad but then again he does that to just about everyone. -
IF you find a good school that spars and trains realistically, unfortuantly that mkaes up like 10% of the schools in the US. For that reason I would check around..there are other stlyes that are usually more street oriented.

TJS replied to martialartsresearcher's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Absolutly im biased twords the most effective techniques. You still havent come up with a logical answer... If you saying im biased in terms of grappling then you are also wrong, I have dont the same amount if not more judo and TJJ then I have BJJ. -
HEadlocks..kids do it on playgrounds and adults do it in bar fights...

kata and grappling
TJS replied to martialartsresearcher's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I just want to re empasize im not saying it's impossible or dosent work, im saying it's easier to apply most technques on the ground. can a crescent kick work? can a hook kick work? yes but there is a reason most Kickboxers use front kicks and round kicks. Can a haymaker work? yes does that mean it's the easiest punch to land or just as effective as any other punch? -

TJS replied to martialartsresearcher's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
really if you actually read the thread you would see i just said I belive there are techniques outside the UFC. Im sure it's nice to live in a fantasy land where anyone who wants proof that techniques work is rediculous..keep writing to us from there and tell us how it's going...be sure to keep blindly beliving everything. Treebranch stated it's as easy to apply a lock standing as it is on the ground, i disagree and i think most peopel who have done both would too. I have still not heard a valid reason why more poeple would not use them if they were equally effective...I can tell you why..because it's easier to pin someon on the ground then do it...you can argue until you turn blue but unless i hear a valid reason other than "just because it's in the UFC" -
kata and grappling
TJS replied to martialartsresearcher's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I didint say any of that, instead of answering the question at hand you are changing the topic. I never said styles that hanvent won in the UFC dont work but i belive it it is usally a pretty accurate picture of certain types of techniques. i realize there is alot more to martial art's than sport fighting but that still dosent explain why a standing joint lock has never been pulled of in such an event where joint locks and chokes are common place.
