Vale Tudo and BJJ
TJS replied to TexDeuce's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Seriosuly..you should chill out with the whole E-thug Tough guy internet image. Go watch the last UFC And you will se a Judo guy perform several throws without a Gi. Alot of BJJ guys would be be uncofortable without a Gi too if that is all they had trained. -
Vale Tudo and BJJ
TJS replied to TexDeuce's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
thats a bad analogy. Striking is more exciting to most people or your avg joe, thats why it's more popular. i doubt BJJ is any more fun to watch than TJJ....infact most people got sick of all the groundfighting in the early UFC's. -
BJJ and Multiple Opponents
TJS replied to ValeTudo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Well the first dozen couldent pull it off...after a few years people began to learn it and yes they adapted. In pure stlye vs stlye 1 vs 1 It proabably is. You can argue until you turn blue that thats not true but history says otherwise. BJJ has dominated other stlyes and has a better track record than ayone else. Im not even a BJJ guy but I realize obvious truths. -
BJJ and Multiple Opponents
TJS replied to ValeTudo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
That dosent hold much weight and here is why. Although most Have cross trained in BJJ many do so so they can "beat it". Wrestlers cross train so they can avoid submissions and GNP, Strikers cross train so they can avoid takedown and strike. BJJ didint have to cross train to beat karate, boxing etc. in order to beat it. Like many have said, BJJ has never claimed to be the best at multiple attacker situations, although it does have some strategys for dealing with them..whitch have already been discussed. -

Today your right but go back a few years and it wasant that way. You can still find alot of "pure" stlyes in grappling though most of the top ones cross train even there. but to play the devils advocate Johnny could have said name one champion who has cross trained in TJJ, there may not be any more pure BJJ champs but almost everyone out there has cross trained in it to some extent and it has influenced most other grappling stlyes aswell. -
YOu should keep your elbows down until right before you make contact, at that point you should rotate your fist about 45 deg.

BJJ and Multiple Opponents

thats not really fair either, in a ring fight you are fighting a trained opponet who is 100% prepeared, I think most would agre your chances of beating more than 1 trained attacker is slim to none. fortunatly most people are not trained. But i Know what your saying..alot of people use the multiple attacker thing as an excuse way too often. -
wc vs mt
TJS replied to kle1n's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I have heard more stories and seen more videos than I can remember about WC guys fighting othr stlyes...If everyone is so misguided please point me in the direction of all the WC guys winning fights...because all of the ones i have seen are of them getting beaten down.. -
wc vs mt
TJS replied to kle1n's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
ok, unfortunatly every single piece of evidence over the last few decades and today would suggest otherwise... -
BJJ and Multiple Opponents
TJS replied to ValeTudo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I dont think there is any stlye that could consistently beat multiple opponets in a ring fight. Assuming they were of the same size or close to it. But that dosent mean i dont think it's possible to beat more than one person in a street fight.. -
Wing Chun Vs. Muay Thai
TJS replied to Furious Kurai's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
There have been several topics on this before, WC and MT hace had challenge maches in the past. MT always dominated them and usually won by KO very early on. WC has never had much succes in Mixed fighting events, The ones that fought in the early UFC's got beaten up pretty badly. There are a few videos on the net of WC guys, one shows a WC guy getting double legged by a wrestler and beaten to a bloody mess. The other Shows a WC guy Getting knocked out with a head kick by a Kyokushin Karateka. I would post a link but the site is down right now. -

Karo Parysin...definetly and Exciting fighter and had some very slick Throws. I also hope to see more judo in MMA but I dont know how well he would be able to do against a good wrestler. Sean Sherk(A strong wrestler) Dominated him and took him down at will in their fight...and in the rematch from what I heard. overall I think he has integraded judo into his mma game very well and I hope to see more of him. Unfortunatly With Matt Hughes Holding the welterweight Championship belt he dosent have much of a chance at the title... -

only when people make outrageous claims.... -
if you want good sparring go find a boxing/kickboxing or Muay Thai gym. if you want self defense see if there are any Krav Maga schools near by.

For the Record Gary Goodrige Was given a 4th deg black belt by a KWS school 6 weeks before his UFC debut. HE never actually trained in it... -

Did you watch UFC 44? Karo Parysian made his Octagon debut and pulled on some very slick judo throws and beat a BJJ veteran fighter by a kimura he set up off a throw. Very Exciting fighter. He supposably was a product of Gokor and Gene Lebell. -

Sounds fun, I always enjoy working out with people from other styles/schools. just out of curiosity, what is your grappling background and how long have you been doing it? -
Point fighting creates false confidence and develops bad habits I agree there is nothing wrong with it as long as the students are informed that you are playing a game of tag.

Lot's of good fights. Randy Spanking tito while he attempted a leg lock was priceless. Tito was a proud champion and Ialmost felt sorry for him after the fight..but he talked WAY too much beforehand.

You seem to be repeating yourself so lets go over this again... Lets destroy this argument real quick shall we... Bob Sapp has trained with several world class fighters including Mo Smith and Josh Barnett. he has also won two of his fights by submission..one by arm bar and one by guillotine. No goldberg is a fictional character and dosent really fight. he knows pro wrestling holds..not real submissions. and on top of that Sapp is alot bigger and stronger than goldberg.

Kicks can certainly be devestating and effective but I belive you should get comfortable with your hands first. some people come to rely on kicks way to much..
