TJS replied to shotokanwarrior's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
BJJ can work in self defense situation, not ALL street situations include multiple attackers. as long as you know it dosent work well with multiple attackers. That is one thing i respect about BJJ. It dosent claim to be able to handle things it cant. The practicioners dont carry around a false sense of security. -
Top 10 Self Defense Martial Arts

Judo or MT could be applied to multiple attackers if taught for it. But most schools wont foucus on that. -
What does Jiu-jitsu involve?
TJS replied to Rich_2k3's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
There are alot of diffrent stlyes. Traditional jiu jitsu focuses more on standing throws/joint locks as well as some pins and strikes etc. and Brazilian jiu jitsu foucuses more on the takedowns and ground grappling aspects. -

Krav Maga. -
Because most school's practice all or most of the things you would never want to do in a street fight and then rarely practice the things that would actually be useful in a fight such as owww...kicking below the waist..punching in the face... most school also spend little time preparing student for clinch fighting or in fighing. on top of that they usually dont teach takedown defenses or groundfighting.

Lets make this simple. In a Karate trounament a BJJ practiicioner would be limited in what he could do because of the rules. In a sport BJJ tournament a karateka would be severly limited in what he could do because of the rules. The soulution is to set both parties under a set ofrules that dont unfairly restrict either's techniques. It's really that simple. What some people forget is that BJJ is NOT NHB. there are rules in sport JJ just like sport karate. the diffrence is BJJ adptes better to NHB than karate does. -

BJJ would be limited in a karate torunament. karateka were not limited in in nhb fights, they could use all of their techniques. thats not a good comparision. -

Maybe you should read my post. im sure all 5 or 6 BOUNCERS Bas got into a fight with were weak sickly children. Im sure the Enemy soldiers in afganistan were 4ft midgets missing one leg. If you point is that you have to be a skilled fighter to defeat more than 1 opponet then I agree. -

speak for yourself, If you are not well trained enough then thats fine. I know several people who have really hurt more than 1 person in a fight. If you read the news a soldier in afganistan Killed 3 enemy soldiers in hand to hand combat durring a nite raid. Go tell him about how it's impossible to beat more than 1 person. Go tell Bas Rutten, or don frye, or any of the other fighters who have been in fights with 5-6 people and been the ones to walk away form it. Saying you Cant beat more than one person is propganda *. you see it's not really an opinion. It HAS been done and it CAN be done. I understand what your saying and i think alot of stlyes do offer false claims, that dosent mean that there are no other stlyes/training meathods that give you a better chance against multiple opponets. -
