  1. How come, im sure you will do just fine...your already got the first step cleared.
  2. Uechi Ryu's style has only three animals and their attacks are base around them. The dragon, the Crane and the tiger. IN most kobudo styles they mimic the crane and the large cats such as the lion, tiger, and jaguar. My style Shinchuuroun Te uses these animals Crane: Stances and Attacks Tiger: Fierceness Jaguar: Speed Snake: Strategy And around the animals the beauty of the martial arts are truly exposed...in my own opinion that is

Yes that will happen in any martial art form other than iaido...Their is not a possible way that a martial arts form can be 100% the same...atleast in iaido its either one or the other...right or wrong. Slight variations are not anything serious, unless its something like two different styles as I often quote, Uechi Ryu and Goju Ryu similar styles but not so. If a uechi student was doing a Sepai kata and a goju ryu practicioner were judging, in the eyes of the goju man/woman the uechi version of Sepai would be wrong in their eyes...same with Seiunchin...(I use seiunchin because they both have it, buts its not exactly the same).

Well they shouldn't do really. We are all built differently, and some days you can do a great Heian Nidan and another time it will suck, but within the same school the goals should be the same. WNM I agree with WNM. From school to school it may be done differently but yet the principles are still their, so the technique shouldn't differ even if its from a different school in an organized style.
  5. Hmm I will keep one from now on....It can be a real helpful resource...I would hate to see an 10th dan's notebook...WHUH.....
  6. Shureido is alot more Smoother feeling on the skin and they are bolder looking and last alot longer.
  7. Congrats, I love green belt its my favorite color..other than Red...but I still got a LOOOOONG time before that...
  8. I love shureido heavy weight gi's their are quite costly and they only talk on the phone which is annoying in my own opinion, but they are the best gi's I have ever used, and their weapons are also the best...
  9. Well either way im sure that the principles are about the same they are more than likely a branch off of each other...one way or the other.
  10. crept...creeping in?...Slowly coming into ...I dont know how to explain this well sorry...it is american slang more so...
  11. I heard that Ashihara Kaiken is used for their armed forces...is that the same thing????????
  12. Hmmm I suppose if I would have actually googled it of looked it up on wikipedia I would have noticed that haha, thanks.
  13. Yes I am extremely greatful it has crept back in. I have been part of three shotokan dojos, and two were not okinawan based, the last one was...and that was my first exposure to traditional and how my sensei says "real karate", and I loved it alot better. And im happy to know that when I get older, I can modify the movements with my age (IE...no extremely deep kiba dachi when you 90)
  14. Oh I know, thats where the base names of most of the dachi same from. And he even changed alot of the pronunciation, in okinawa they say dach, in Japan they say Dachi. And I hate to say it because its going to get alot of mixed feelings, but I think when Funakoshi took his Karate to japan it got watered down, like when I see a 'okinawan' Based Shotokan Practiconer vs. a "japan" based practitioner, the okinawan has better form and more traditional movements.
  15. I always liked Baek and Lee
  16. I did think it was funny...but I did not enjoy watching it with my little cousin, who made me rent it for him. I cut it off and put an older ufc "best of..." dvd in and he settled extremely well for that. its to vulgar for kids and it should actually not be rented to anyone under the age of 18...(I seen some people under eighteen renting it in front of me)...its a good spoof...but I do not think it should have been done about Tae Kwon Do...
  17. is this a newer movie, cause its not in my rental store yet...
  18. Hmm I never thought about that one, haha.

Oh yes me to. Especially with other Katas llike Seunchin and Sanseiru, the contrasting of the katas are immense and you truly get to become a better martial artist by cross training. LIke with my Uechi Ryu its teaching me to be a more fierce competitor now...

Hmmm what I meant was that, if you learn goju ryu kata from goju ryu practicitoner it will be 100% goju ryu, but it you learn goju ryu kata from uechi Ryu master it is not 100% goju ryu. So it almost turns into a different kata because the bunkai and the whole movements in general turn to be UEchi Ryu styled than Goju ryu, and if you go to a Goju Ryu only Tournament and you do the goju ryu kata taught by your uechi Ryu Sensei it will not be the "same". similar yes, but same no...thats how I figured you were stating it, haha. But maybe not. I dunno if that's such a good comparison as Uechi Ryu has kata different from Goju, not to mention the kata they do share are executed in a different manner. Compare Sanchin kata in Goju to Uechi and you'll see the difference. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1070562260918624443&ei=wMzMSZu8L42grwLiuYS5Cw&q=sanchin+kata+goju&hl=en&client=firefox-a http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2311791963008270920&ei=cs3MSfOACoKwrALxsIWhCw&q=sanchin+kata+uechi&hl=en&client=firefox-a Sure there are similar movements, but from execution you can tell that they come from two different mindsets. Kata is kata however, and getting good at one kind of Sanchin kata will help you progress much faster in the other. I meant that a Uechi Practicioner doing a kata such as Sepai, while goju ryu does sepai, its both Goju Ryu kata, but when Uechi Ryu does it, it will have more of a uechi influence.
  21. Sepai is indeen not with Uechi, but he says that the Sepai kata has some good contrast to have with uechi, since his emphasis on uechi is Crane, he loves the movements of Sepai, and thanks for the vid. >.......< And now thats answers by whole question to do with the "ashi" What about the "ha"...does that ha refer to crane?

  23. That blue tint is an anti fungal treatment that the material is dipped in to prevent it from getting moldy etc during storage. WNM Thats what I heard, I actually wished mine wouldn't turn all white I actually liked that light blue tint, it added some character to my gi unlike all the plain whites, and the blue was actually extremely light it was almost unnoticeable unless you were in close quarters....even the black shureido you can see the blue its beautiful.
  24. I trained in goju for a bout four months, and im currently learning sepai from my Uechi Ryu Instructor. ````````````` Espina....I have to ask...does ashihara involve alot of leg movements or striked to the leg or kicking techniques?
  25. You definately got a point there.
