Hmm A female mixed martial arts instructor, I havent seen to many of those around lately. Nice to meet you. -
Yong Sool Choi, that is a prominent name...nice to have you with us!

I got choked out like that before..I believe in Judo for a choke to work you need to have an arm in some sort of hold as well, i believe I am not entirely sure, its been a while since I competed in a judo tournament.

I dont like them...I always stub a toe some way with the concave structure of the wavemaster...I like the originals the best...the not to small but not to big ones...the old school ones that they dont make anymore... Does any one have any favorite wavemasters that they can refer me to, because I am in dire need of a new one, mine is tethering every where.

well I have made a hypothesis of that this site is no good and it is illegitimate... Would any one like to test it for me?...or second that?... or?....
-
Yes it is. Not something that I would take the time to do in a real street brawl, but thats why I like doing diverse martial arts that way if I ever do get into a fight I have a big tool box to reach into....

I am six foot, and I weight 170. am not underweight and I am still not over weight...how that can be I do not know. I still have a small gut because I like starch and carbs to much still. I do cardio before I lift to up the heart rate and get the adrenaline pumping, but to lose that gut you need to eat right. Cut alot of the carbs and boost the protein, but eat healthy protein such as tuna, and stuff like that.

Grego, when I was in Juijitsu just starting I got choked out by a belt at one time...Im not sure how but after that I removed my belt size from a 6 to a 5 for the class, haha.

I hate going to a tournament thrown by a school, and the tournament director which at a lot of times is the head sensei of the school, compete in their own tournaments. I think it is absolutely horrible! Has this ever happened to any one of you before where you went to a tournament and the director was competing... At one time I had a judge/director/competitor that was horrible. I walked in and seen that and I left...

I love how, Chito Ryu, Shito Ryu, Shito Kai, Shukokai and Uechi Ryu have such similar katas, its wonderful haha. And yes girls do look better at the Bassai Dai Kata. I taught a girl this and I swear she looks better at it than I do...

its hard to say he is trying to keep it mixed up since their is only one few for a dojo training and your allowed to come any day you want. We teach up to four days a week we let people know the days a month in advance, but he is trying to keep it mixed up. Their may be at times two karate classes a week, some weeks none. I do not agree with this, at any cost. I think it is idiotic. I have the greatest respect for my teacher but I do not think this is the way to go. I mean, why not do it five days a week and up the price on the monthly fee...make it like 50 instead of 40 dollars? And do a class once a day for five days.

I always insist upon using my old white belt when ever I being a new style. And I hate belts that wont tie right (if their too short), I like for them to come right down to the end of my gi top, anything below that impedes and anything above that impedes as well.

I mis said what I meant haha. I meant stiff instead of tight, so their not pointing straight left and right instead of hanging down, those are annoying to me...

I wash my uniform for sure, I cant stand working out with someone thats stinks...But I also wash my belt when I first receive it to loosen it up a bit. I hate tight belts...:S

Would it be more interesting to have classes one week that weren't around next week? Like say if your classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays and you teach different things. So week one Tues - Judo Thurs - Kobudo Week two Tues - Karate thurs - Aikido Would you guys like that or no?...I dont but one of my teachers are thinking of doing just that...Im against it...

Aikido?
Traymond replied to arcelt's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I have had four aikido instructors, and none of them matched up to my Aikido Teacher in Japan. The other three were lacking in showing me the pain of the art. My Teacher in Japan was the better. I find myself showing my teachers now stuff my teacher in Japan showed me, stuff that they have never even seen before. -
Haha tell me about it...but dont worry just ignore those that are and have fun.
-
Well obvously you dont have to make it look like Michael Milon's Jump...thats to pretty for me. But I am no good at helping you with this one, since my jump is only half good as my teacher tells me. but I was never fond on jumping thats why I dont teach this or the akamine no jiwa kata. But I was told to practice on a trampoline for two months to get use to a good unsu jump. I was never fond of Unsu.

"Not all Martial Artists are honorable..."
Traymond replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Chat
Martial arts is about fighting...alot of it...But I think that your personal characteristics should from from within your home...your own morals, and those morals should just be complimented by martial arts. -
To be honest, I think the whole "belt getting filthy and turning to black" is just a myth. Especially given the emphasis on hygeine in Eastern culture and in your typical dojo. My style uses striped belts. Always has, ever since it was "created". Is that not traditional? To me stripes make a lot more sense than having a greater number of coloured belts. Korean Culture and Japanese culture are to different things. Koreans have earned themselves the nickname (Atleast with TKD) the pretty art, They are always neat and clean how ever Karate at its fullest and in depth training is dirty and rugged. I have trained under students of Matayoshi Shinpo, and Taira Shinken. They have passed down the knowledge of their arts to their students, and then on. It is true when the belt began it was white, and then it turned to a filthy dirty color ( brownish black). Of course Green, and blue would never be the case. Alot of older hombu dojos originated on the beaches and in the woodland areas. With all due respect Traymond, I think you're wrong. Its not just the Koreans who like you to be clean and tidy. I don't study a Japanese style myself but I'm sure if you went to a dojo and expected to train in a sweat and bloodstained gi they would not allow it; why would a festering half-rotten belt be allowed instead? This article may be of some interest: http://www.24fightingchickens.com/2005/09/09/urban-legends-of-karate-belts/ yes I am aware of the article I have read it already. The way this article is looked at is a japanese bushi, not an okinawan bushi by the term bushi I am referring to the two different meanings of Bushi. Okinawan's have a bushi that is meant to be like a master of karate a japanese bushi is some one with a samurai base mentality. To not point your feet at a belt is basically the samurai mentality, just like it is rude to wear socks in front of a samurai. As you should be aware of, their are two different bases of Karate, Japanese and Okinawan. Shotokan is an Okinawan originated art, but when Gichin Funakoshi left it in Japan, it became "Japanized". This is where the colored belts are said to have been adopted from, from Jagaro Kano's art is where it is said to have come from, I how ever am not sure about that, it is a possibility. Now in Okinawan Karate they said it was wrong to wash the uniform or the belt, unless you were at a masters status, this may be urban legend maybe not, I go by what my teachers tell me. I have had teachers tell me that you wear the color obi that your uniform is. Blue uniform blue belt, red uniform red belt. And I must say in any of the books I have read by funakoshi san I have never heard him say he was awarding ranks or receiving ranks, may this be because he never had any real ranks from his teacher only certified to teach by Anko Itosu and Anko Asato. On wikipedia it does say he has reached 5th dan, but I believe his teachers just awarded him the master status once he returned from Japan. And Hidetaka Nishiyama never went by a belt rank he always onsidered himself honored that his teacher Gichin Funakoshi said he could go out and teach.

I would never be able to live in the big city for a long time...maybe for a visit but I like the country side better...

The way the ranking systems tend to work....

But when you also look at it...your arts are fighting arts. not really anything infused with a spiritual basis...unless its Kempo...but kempo has been so fused wither other influences its hard to say...
