Every thing they have is so cheap (well most things!). But shipping is only $4.99 which isn't bad but the days are quite long 7-10 days maybe longer they say. so Im not sure if its a site thats a rip off or not. I dont think they are but I would like some confirmation atleast.

One Inch Punch, and..
Traymond replied to Traymond's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
So do you believe that Ki (qi) is used in the one inch punch concept if done correctly? Or do you disagree with the fact, because your post seems to go both ways with it in my eye sight, haha. -
When I was learning Bagua in California...it costed me 25 dollars an hour, so I did not get to study for long. Maybe one week at 2 hours a day, but this guy was amazing. He taught alot in those two hours and he had a way of teaching that made you retain it. If your a good teacher and you can back up your teaching then I guess it would be healthy to charge that much, but for me I cannot afford to charge that much I would be out on the streets. I think for one month 40-60 dollars a month if perfect, anything other 60 dollars thats way to much and its not worth it, unless you have a GREAT job.

One year I tried to do mine, but it messed with my head so bad, I said the heck with it, the hundred or so bucks is worth it, haha.

In this case, I think you have to consider the bulk of the material that has to be covered and demonstrated for testing purposes. If you are expected to demonstrate lower ranked material, along with self-defense, applications, etc, as well as those needed for the current rank. You might need that time. Ok but what if they can prove and demonstrate that they are physically ready to test? -
Ill tell you one of my fights if you tell me yours.

Let me rephrase what I meant. have you ever had any sparring incidents that kept going after the fight was over? -
One Inch Punch, and..
Traymond replied to Traymond's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Indeed Bruce Lee did not say he had a chi flow in his one inch punch, but Leung Chum, Sigung Yip Man, Great Grandmaster Chu Shong Tin, and Grand master Jim Fung did say they have chi. But everyone has their own opinions on where our power comes from. I am in between with strength and Ki (chi). -
So why did you start training - what keeps you going?

I started martial arts because I wanted to fly I wanted to be strong I wanted to be able to fight I wanted to be able to smash bricks with my forehead I wanted my family to be proud of me I wanted to show everyone that I could it, when they said I couldn't. I started for all the wrong reasons. Now I stay in it for Exercise Learning Tradition Teaching And the spiritual side of it plays a big role in it for me. -

Sometimes an external exam board can see things that the instructor overlooks. Often students tend to mimic their instructor too so any bad habits they may have will get passed on and the board can point these out. External exam boards also allow for another perspective on things and also ensures consistency if you are part of a group or org. Plus there's that added thing on making it seem more like a test rather than being complacent because you're instructor has seen you do a technique 100 times before so its not a big deal if you screw up. In my personal experience (I was tested 8 times by a board of directors). If they are not in the same state, you have to pay transportation to either go and see them or they come to you. You have to pay for the place that you stay in, then you have to pay the testing fee and some of the directors require their fee as well. It is pointless, to be tested by a group of people you want nothing to do with. You learn the martial art from your teacher, all martial arts are localized. You learn the way he teaches you, they never taught you before, why should someone be subjected to that? I also have to pay for similar costs (probably a bit less since the UK is smaller than most states). If you want nothing to do with them, then fair enough. Personally I would prefer to be tested by someone else for the same reasons above. In most cases anyway it would be my instructor's seniors, masters who are highly valued within our org for their knowledge so I'd see it as an honor for them to award me rank if they think I'm good enough. And if you think about it from an instructor's point of view it could be a good thing to get others to test your students because then you know that you are training them to a good quality and others are recognising that quality. The other thing for us is that the org I'm in is global and standardized everywhere so you have different people test you students in order to make sure everyone is working to the same quality and a green belt in one country means the same as a green belt halfway across the world. Ah I see that I forgot to explain my circumstance better. My school is part of an organization within an organization, the part that I am talking about that I want no more affiliation removed the grandmaster from the scene and 'banned' his portrait from being in the schools and we are not allowed to bow to him when we do come across from him. To test I have to drive close to about 700 miles, then the only hotel around their is the Ramada. They hold a yearly national weekend/tournament. They refuse to let us hold it because it is to far for them to come, but yet they do not care about how far we have to go. Most organizations that I have seen are about the sane...the key word is "that I have seen". The other organization I am talking about is my school itself. We have a Yondan in Shinchuurou Te Yondan in Kajukenbo sandan in Aikido Sandan in Goju Ryu and gokudan in Uechi Ryu We test each other based on the mixology of all the martial artists. -
I dont see any where, where it says that it is secure so I was just wandering. They have cheap kama and tuifa.

Ooooh...the infamous spiderman crawl...I always feel them in my quads the best.

And with the younger kids, they cannot comprehend exactly what to do especially breaking down bunkai and oyo bunkai. Like the grab and hold techniques they cannot really grasp the full mechanics of it.

Alright, but why should we set so much space between them anyways. If they are ready, then they deserve to be tested, a the discretion of the instructor. I hate schools that send you to test with a board of directors, that is stupid. The teacher knows his student the best and he or she should have sole responsibility in testing them. I am all for long waits from brown to black belt. Whether their is three sets of brown or just one brown belt. But at the lower kyu ranks we should be looking for reasons to promote them, and as they progress we should be looking for reasons not to promote them. White to yellow or white to orange (depending on the school), is a breeze no matter what, so why make them wait for it? to show that they have patience, that should be instilled in their character from being around their instructor. -
And if he happens to lash out at you...you no longer need to have respect for him as a teacher.

Thats a good point. But lets face it. Alot of people want it the American Way. Hot and ready as soon as possible, or they want their money back. In one of my schools they want you to stay white belt for one month...not an unreasonable request, but people tend to think so. And then they have only three testing dates a year. So if they dont have that time constraint fulfilled than they may have to weight about four more extra months. -

Haha me to. So. Have you ever had any bad sparring incidents? -
I remember trying to get an screen name through AOL and all the cool ones were used up so I had to use some easy name.. dummytimothy...haha

And also...as an instructor he should also be aware that what happens outside the dojo should stay outside of it....its a bad habit to bring outside stuff into the inner dojo.

I did mine at H& R Block...it was $329
