  1. I have a bad habit of hooking kicks but they always give the point to the other competitor even though they never score a hit on my sides just my arms from me catching it. which I was always under the understanding arms are not a point.
  2. wow, I would be so embaressed if I or anyone I know turned up looking like that. Forms are an exhibition and a clean, well cared for gi is all part of the presentation aspect. Just as how you conduct yourself on the mat, you have to dress yourself accordingly. If its a long drive or if its going to be a while before I put my doboks on, I'll have it in a suit bag so it doesn't get crushed. I know you're supposed to fold it properly but I would rather hang it up the whole time so it doesn't get badly creased. Wow! That sounds like a pretty bad gi. DWx I actually do the same thing with my gi also. I never wear it to tourny's to keep it from getting wrinkle and I carry it in, in a garment bag.
  3. Congrats on your 2002 post.
  4. My husband an I got the movie it was excellent it was nice seeing realistic fight scenes that was not done with wires. I recommend it.
  5. Man I hope you get better kez. I was sick over the Holidays and had a reaction to my meds also I had a rash all over my face and neck and the other great stuff. I felt like crap to begin with and to have that, I feel ya. Just rest and get better.
  6. I would very hesitant to allow that. Although we spar "semi-contact" you get hit pretty hard, I know a guy who accidently took a kick to the groin and his cup cracked. Also if you catch it sideways it can be pretty nasty too. Us women don't like get kicked there either! I second that it hurts pretty bad, I seem to always get hit there when I do a side kick on some one, that might be why side kicks are not my favorite kick, lol.
  7. Like what was said above it depends on your school requirements and you. It is not a race it is a learning experiment that never stops, if that makes since. I use to feel that I need to keep up with my husband since we started together. I made it to every class in which he would make it about 2 weeks out of a month because of work he was tested for his black belt in a two years and three months after we joined and I am in my last stage and could be tested at any time for my shodan and it has been three years. what I am getting at is enjoy the experience do not worry about the belt. Your sensei will know when you are ready. Welcome to the Forums and welcome to Martial Arts.
  8. I compete in the PKC(Professional Karate Commission) they do not have the traditional katas separate from the xma. I once had to compete against a girl who did back flips across the competition ring and this kick I can not even describe. I did a traditional kata called Chinte. I felt I did really well with it and was told so by the judges, but they gave it to the girl that did the back flips and I was the runner up. I feel the same that traditional needs to separate from xma.
  9. Welcome!
  10. I use to watch that!! I forgot all about that one man I feel old now. Thanks
  11. White Christmas is my all time favorite. I also like the Christmas classics like Rudolf and Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus is coming to Town
  12. I agree totally agree. Always follow your instincts that is why you have them for. I also agree with this you should not be using words like this at your students or in front of your students exespecially young ones. You are suppose to be a teacher some one for people to look up to talking like that is unacceptable I am surprise you but up with it for 9 years you said did your parents or guardian ever watch class what about other parents do they not watch there children in class and see what is going on. I agree with Bushido_man avoid them if you feel threaten by them and keep friends near you. Hear is that instinct thing lesson to it. For doing self defense stuff for your new school, do it and have fun with it.
  13. What a cool drill.

  20. The day that I sign up for the karate forums I was reading a book with my son called Guardians of Ga'hoole. It is about owls and I love barn owls I think they are so beautiful. So that is how I came up with my name here on the forums White Owl.
