Curse of the purple belt.

The "curse" is what you make it out to be. I am a very suberstitious person, like when black cat's cross my path I just X it out and keep going. -

Congrats unknownstyle! -
Welcome! I train in shotokan karate with a little grabbling and street savvy techniques (basicly dirty techniques).

Kalania, I do not no about your area but in our area there is some dojo's not listed in a phone book or even google martial arts schools you will not find my dojo listed there even though we have a web page. My first dojo that I join had a business card on a bulliten board in a hot dog shop which it was ran out of our local YMCA. And the dojo I'm with now is ran out of a baseball complex and people come from here say we have no address or phone other than the complex's. So what I'm getting at do not be affraid to ask around also during your search you'll be surprise what you might just find.

Glucosamine & Chondroitin Supplements ?
white owl replied to Tiger1962's topic in Health and Fitness
Tiger, I take Glucosamine and chondroitin with msm. I take it for my lower back it seems to help me. I even got my parents on it for there bad joints an they say it helps them. I also so take flaxseed oil with mixture of fish oil, they say that helps too. -
I agree with what everyone said here, I would diffently find another school before you quit all together, you will kick yourself in the rear later if you did quit. Because as you said above that you told your self you will not quit this time, so find another solution for your problem by checking out other schools or talking to your sensei and tell him or she how you feel about always working with the little ones. But I really suggest looking into another school because having more kids than adults will always be a problem.

Lol, I guess in way it is not all that bad. But some times enough is enough. And he is like child some times: when you laugh at them when they do something funny and they just keep going on and on with it, because you laugh at them and you now how that gets old. BB of C what a creative mind lol.

Instructing your own children
white owl replied to white owl's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I would like to give an update last week our head sensei was out of town and I was the highest ranking student available to instruct class and my son was aware of this and he did really well for me everyone did as matter afact they all thank me for a good class afterward that made me feel really good. I try new things and made new drills for conditioning. It was a lot of fun with out the pressure of your sensei's watching you. -
I was told about this stretch when I first started practicing karate, you sit on the floor and slide your but up against the wall with your legs on the wall staight in front of you and then let them fall to the side like a split keep your heels on the wall and your toes pointed away from the wall. I like this stretch and it is a stretch you will feel it, but you are leting gravity stretch you. I just started last week doing it again when I was warming up class and now my sensei is having us do it quite often now he like it a lot, now that I have been doing it a week I can see a little difference. Give it a try. I can recomend a good book it is called Ultimate Flexibility by Sang H. Kim.

I agree with what everyone else said here, without seeing what you are doing it is really hard to give you advise. I know that your power comes from your core muscles and your hips. So good hip rotation and a strong core you should have adequit power no matter your size.

Then there's hope for me! I'm 56. I feel like a kid! Again awesome!

LOL !!! yours does that too? I felt silly mentioning it but since you did - I will say that we too often break into sparring mode sometimes out of nowhere. The security people in the stores probably get a huge laugh out of us. I told him the other day he has to knock it off or one day we are going to get kicked out of the store, could you amagine getting kicked out of walmart which he would love because he hates that place. I no he just playing but it gets on my nerves. Here is a good one, we were standing in line at a resturant an he started twisting my arm in to a lock and I punched him in the stomach for it, this older gentleman said if he was a few years younger he would get in on our match, I was so upset . He just laughed.

LOL - I've noticed over the years in regard to relationships and karate, that it seems to work best if both partners are either involved in some kind of martial arts or at the very least very familiar with it. Who else can understand our hobby / past time / obsession but a fellow practitioner? Just my observation. If I'm wrong - someone please give a "shout out" - No offense to my husband it could get a little annoying having both partners involve in martial arts I have to be on my guard all the time when I'm around him in and out of the dojo. I never no when he will throw a kick or a punch or put me in a standing arm lock. Not to say I might not deserve it every once in a while but it does get annoying but I would not change it, we take ma as a family.
