Me and my son Ryan arrive at karate tonight and go off to get changed. He was ready first and i said i would see him in the dojo. As i walked in i heard someone shout.."OI GET THE HELL DOWN OFF THERE". I looked up and realised it was some guy shouting at Ryan! I was mortified. This guy's tone of voice was aggresive and i felt he had no right to speak to my son like that. Ryan was naughty though, he was sitting on one of the long radiators that go around the room. This guy thinks he's ahead of everyone else, he bosses other students about, shouts at the kids and basically thinks he's brilliant....now as i see it he makes mistakes in his kata's and he also recently failed his black belt grading for making too many mistakes on basics and kata. I didnt say anything right away, when he saw me walk to Ryan, and Ryan was a little upset in the corner i made a point of saying "are you ok mate". The guy then walked over and said to Ryan "you could have got your foot stuck behind the radiator". Basically he didnt realise he was my son and when he did he was worried by the looks i gave him. All the kids sit on them. I'm not saying it's right but this guy just likes to make himself look big by shouting and showing authority. He is 1st kyu by the way. All the way through the lesson i was angry, i had to partner with him and i resented him trying to tell me i was going wrong especially with me being the same grade...i wasn't doing it wrong at all he was! At the end of the class i told him what i thought about him shouting at my son like that and said if he had any kind of problem with him again to speak to me first before shooting his mouth off. He apologised saying that he was just concerned...but personally i don't buy that! What do you guys think? Am i over reacting? I have a serious issue with this guy! Kez

Can you just attend any seminar? Or do you have to go to one's arranged by your club? We have black and brown belt courses within the club, are they similar to that?

Hmm yeah i don't think i would directly get involved if they were arguing and no physical contact was being made, but like elbows and knees says, defo call the police if you felt that was needed.

well i don't think i'll ever use a side thrust kick on him again....but then again that's if he'll ever spar with me again! Hehe

Last night in training we doing kumite and i was sparring with a black belt, a rather large man. I was surprised that i was doing really well, and managed to scare some points. But then my cheek got the better of me and i tried so get a side thrust kick in to his gut. Unfortunalty i wasn't quick enough and he blocked it, but scooped my leg and spun me so my back was to him, where he scored a point to the back of my head. Now the funny part! While he was scoring that point to the back of my head i lost my balance and fell backwards, he was nice enough to stay where he was to catch me to stop my fall, but out of sheer reaction i grabbed his gi, unfortunatly it was his trousers and down they went I didnt know wether to cry or laugh but then couldn't help it and was rolling around the floor laughing....as was everyone else (including sensei). Luckily the guy i was sparring with found it funny too, nobody got to see his underwear which was a good thing i think Me and him had bright red cheeks for the rest of the class. Yeah like someone else mentioned, if you hit everyone who bumped into you, you would have been arrested loads of times. You obviously feel a little guilty otherwise you wouldn't have posted this thread and asking 'should i apologize?' I would say yes, definatly apologize. But you said the guy ran away, so do you know who he is and where to find him?

For me it has to be streetfighter with kylie minogue and van damme...i mean what were they thinking. Coming a close second would be the quest with van damme, it was a bit like they were copying bloodsport. then there is kickboxer 2, 3 and 4..totally let the 1st down.

What a great guy. I really liked him in enter the dragon, a good fighter and he was quite funny and witty as well if i remember right. I never really knew much else about him till i read this post, very interesting facts.

I had tekken tag and it was a great game. And yes tekken bowl was brilliant as well...sigh...i miss that game. Just out of interest can you buy the tekken games for the x box360?

I doubt it jaymac, but i suscribe to traditional karate magazine and in septembers issue there was a section in it showing how to do certain one's. I could try doing a search.

I have never washed a belt. I find that they just tend to soften in time with wearing them. I know it's a nuicence coming undone all the time.

Yeah i agree. You can still put in your all if your working with someone at a lower grade or slower than you, just remember control...it's the key.

Good for you Jiffy..keep at that bunkai! Bring on the Kata and Bunkai!

Ok so what about this? If you don't learn jump kicks or flying kicks in your dojo (which i mentioned earlier we don't). It's something i have always wanted to learn. If you have lots of martial arts experience already, do you guys think you could learn them properly from a book or DVD?

I'm with Bushido and Jiffy...who is he?
