[TKD] Red belt testing
Shotokan-kez replied to Truestar's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Aww beat of luck to you, were all rooting for ya. Like others have said (and yourself) give it your all and put your whole heart into it. I'm sure your sensei can tell the difference between someone that doesn't try hard at all and someone that puts in everything they have. Good luck and let us know how you get on. -
good one kirst

Oh dear, i am so glad i wasnt that serious! I wouldn't have hated to have broken it and been out of training for longer. I was very lucky i guess that i was only out of training for a week, then no fighting for a week.

Apology is always important if you hit someone to hard by accident because tempers can flare when it happens too often. I have often hurt someone by accident and immediatly patted him/her on the back and said sorry. Intentional violence is very much out of order. It's very difficult trying to work with someone who has no control. I tend to hit them back if the same person does it to me too many times, just to let them know i am no soft touch, there is only so much you can take really. If it kept on happening i would report them to sensei.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, that'll be why he said that. I will still sometimes grab tho, just for a split second to get that cheeky jab in to the face.

We got a rabbit called bart. 5 fish called salmon, tuna, nemo, dory and pilchard and a small eel called pringles. We also have a cat called peggy. Excuse the names my son chose them. My mum has two horses called millie and figment. Three dogs, an irish wolf hound called luna, a lurcher cross called larry and a little scruffy one called louie, she also has a rabbit called loki.

Oh i am better now kirst, can't wait for training on monday! Glad to hear your doing a little better. xx
-
Welcome to kf! I probably won't be of much help but all i do is plenty of sit-ups and push ups to get a stronger upper body. I am only a small lass but my legs are very muscly and strong, whereas my upper part isnt so, so thats what i have been doing becasuse i can't afford the gym.
-
yeah that a great tip bushido, i do that a lot with mae-geri. You can block it with a hook and swing them round so you can get a counter attack in their back. Speaking of grabbing i did that once, i grabbed my opponents gaurd arm and then used my other arm to get a point to the face. M sensei said not to hold on for to long but never gave me a reason why??

thanx

Arent we just! Hows the knee hun?

oh you surprise me there kirst, when i did shukokai for a short while, the sweep was very much permitted. In fact they did a lot of fighting to and every person you faught would try their upmost to seep you, when or if the suceeded everyone would turn round and cheer, which of course wasn't very pleasant for the person on the floor, very embarrasing. Luckily it never happened to me because i was always on my gaurd and rooted my feet to the ground, just simply because i didn't want to get laughed at. So basically i would always go home with battered and bruised legs because they couldn't take me down. I guess your right, suggesting that i not concentrate on this for the grading, i am much better with punching combo's, so i may have to stick with that.

Well done to you, that fighting was awesome, i think you did really well to hold your own like that, pat yourself on the back. kez -
Cool ta for the replies guys. I haven't actually attempted the sweep yet during a sparring fight but i know i need to practise it more because i was thinking of using it for my black belt grading during the kumite section. I do realise it can be ver effective and useful, if only i can get it right. The only time we have really used it is slowly against an oppenent, then graduall getting faster but without the opponent moving. I will keep at it kez

cheers bushido, i do always ask him and he is so funny with his answer. I say 'do you need a wee ethan' and he says 'no thanks' he makes me laugh. So far he has used the pott everytime for a wee. The accidents in his pants are all poop, which isn't pleasant. I will follow up on the advice of adding more fibre to his diet, thats a really good idea. Ethan will eat absolutely anything so that shouldn't be a problem.

hehe ninja nurse that is so true

No matter how many times my sensei shows me this sweeping techniue i just can't get it right. I always end up really hurting the other persons leg rather than taking their foot away, or damaging my own foot in the process. So my questions are how long did it take you guys to master it and do you find in affective in a sparring situation? I really don't like this kick [is it classed as a kick?], maybe i don't like it because i can't do it Also would it be allowed to be used in a fight, would it score you a point if you took them down or would you also need to strike them while they were down to get the point?

Trust you bushido! -
Well i do agree with what others have said, i wouldn't do it but on the other hand you dont have an insructor so give it a go and see how it goes. I know how you feel though, if i didnt have an instructor i would probably take the same path as you. Good luck with it and i hope you find an instructor soon.
