I can do my kicks high and fast without any kind of warmup, and hitting the target well. I often do this prancing around the house. Bushido, if you used to be able to do this before age....i better watch out -
Makes three of us there!

martial arts scary in some peoples eyes?
Shotokan-kez replied to little kicker's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I dunno really, i put yes on the voting, mainly because in some cases it can be scary. I am a bit of a wimp when it comes down to it but sometimes in the dojo i scare some people with my antics Also i think i put some people off by trying it when i do silly things like crack my finger and have bruises. Funny you should start this topic because a few hours ago at a course im doing a lady asked how my finger is doing and i said fine, then she noticed a huge bruise on my arm, where someone stamped on me by accident last night in training. I explained this to her and she was like 'ooo this karate thing sounds dangerous'. I tried to explain but she wasn't convinced, i guess it can be a little scary for some people who don't train in a martial art and just see some injuries that martial artists are going to get, i think sometimes that can put them off. But i say 'hey if a little wimp like me can do it anyone can. It's not all about beating people up' -
Hi there and welcome to the forums. Bushido's advice is great, and have a good read of the link there. Make sure you look around lots of different dojo's first and ask lots of questions and speak to the sensei's. I'm sure you will find an ma that suits you down to the ground. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Sounds like great fun, i would like to try that one.

Yes the round kick bushido, kicking from your back leg and landing with it in front (although i guess it could be the other way round as well).

Cheers for that. Well if i make the decision i will be living in new cumnock. I can get a train from there easily to glasgow. If you could scout around for shotokan clubs i would highly appreciate it, that would be lovely.

agression
Shotokan-kez replied to little kicker's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Yep i agree there. I had a very similar problem and still do to some extent, then sensei said i wasn't showing enough aggresion and power. Like bushido says they will hit you if you give them the chance, it takes confidence and lots of practise. -
Thats really good advice shui, i agree with that. Another thing i do with my son to increase speed is this. Two people face up, one wears a focus punch pad on each hand and the other wears their sparring mitts. The one with the focus pads swings their arms directly at the others head, the other one has to duck quickly and make a jab with each arm on each pad and the whole process keeps going, getting faster as they go along. The good thing is that the other attacking person doesnt know when the person with the pads will swing, also you could move about a bit to make it feel like more of a sparring situation. What bushido said is right too, it's difficult against a very fast guy when its not full contact.

Training with it on a kick shield would be good too.

Hi there. No probs, welcome!

You are probably not twisting your hips enough, and also remember your supporting foot has to turn as well. It's a difficult kick to master. Why not ask your sensei to watch you while your doing it and ask him if he can demonstrate and explain where your going wrong.

Help! Sticky situation .. no training
Shotokan-kez replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This is great news, i am really pleased for you hun. Good luck with your training in shotokan and have fun! -
I will be honest i have never seen this happen between black belts, it's always the lower grades trying to show off that think they are bruce lee. There was an incident when i beginner was messing around and he tried to do that crane techinique on my son and my son ended up with a nose bleed, i wasn't very impressed to say the least. The boy didn't apologise to my son and his father didnt say anything either. I do know that sensei had strong words with him but i think an apology to either me or ryan would have been appropriate. Plus there isnt an awful lot of adults in our class so it isnt really seen.
