Help! Sticky situation .. no training
Shotokan-kez replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeah you do find that your legs shake. Mine still do it now when some of the brown belts do movements wrong in a kata, sensei makes us all stand in the last move for ages and it's normally the last move in heian godan...ouch! Your legs will soon get used to it hun -
I don't know any blonde jokes but these are hilarious, thanks everyone for giving me a good giggle!

Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior?

Never heard of it either! -
Great advice there from ps1 and bushido, i agree wholeheartedly.

Our black belts do exactly as everyone else, but just like everyone else says, they are expected to show a good example and are sometimes required to teach. If a bunch of black belts were chattering amongst themselves while the lesson was going on then that wouldn't be allowed.

A question of weight and mabye something else
Shotokan-kez replied to Jeet Kune Do's topic in Health and Fitness
You were probably better off putting this in the health, training and fitness section. I'm not great with this sort of stuff, but i would say eat more pasta, potato's ect. Some people are just made that way, im very small, a bit muscly and weigh 9st and im 5ft2 but it doesnt bother me too much. You are probably thinner because you do ma too, you'll be surprised on how many calories you would burn in one session. -
I have a similar problem, not exactly the same as yours but the fact that we have mixed classes and they are mostly kids! Don't worry to much and don't worry if you make a 'touch' on someone while sparring, if your using control and only make the touch then you won't hurt them. Some people may disagree with me but i'm one of these people that says if the person your sparring with isn't using the right spirit, motivation, control ect then it;s their problem if they get hit. Don't worry about sparring with the ladies, i'm sure they wouldn't be there if they didnt know they could get hit/hurt from time to time. You really shouldn't have to encourage higher grades to spar better...thats up to them. At least you get a good session from the black belts. When you spar with the others, give it your all and do what you normally would, don't worry!

Shotokan-kez replied to savedbygrace's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Awww i bet you luck fine. Funny actually i was showing off on ere saying i can still do really high fast kicks without a warm up. I tried it in the kitchen yesterday and i heard a big crack in my hips, so i tried it with my other leg and the same happened. So i stand completely corrected lol -

I read an article once in a magazine i subscribe to called traditional karate. The article was talking about taking up karate. At the top it said All students must be prepared for injury, weather it be minor or serious, and maybe sometimes death. I was horrified when i read this! No wonder some people may be scared of taking on an MA.
