  1. OldRookie - Another firearms person. I used to collect swords but now I do firearms... hehe Actually, though I just purchased a handmade Paul Chen Practical Katana off Ebay for $120.00. They are hand forged and are suppossed to be combat ready. I bought the cheapest one to see the quality. If the quality is good then I will be buying a more expensive blade such as the Musashi replica. Pete
  2. Who is Yoda?
  3. I don't practice traditional Kama forms but I do open kama forms. More dynamic. Not quite as practical because we have a lot of kicking drills in it and if it was real you would never throw a kick at a samurai holding a sword unless you wanted to lose the foot. Pete
  4. I've had a few concussions a disloated jaw and tons of bruises and the norm. Pete
  5. The most important thing to do is to relax. Your mind must not drift from what you plan on accomplishing. Keep a focused mind and let your skill take its course. Do not think of specific techniques just let your training come into play. Pete
  6. Well I'm glad you have WAY too much spare time to get useless statistics. I however, have a life and choose not to argue with you. Bottom line is I'll always own firearms and so won't half the people in the country. My closing statement is for you: There is a firearm for EVERY man woman and child in this country. That is a FACT and I hope it helps you to sleep better at night. Good bye...
  7. Well most of the drills in plyometrics will help with your Martial ARts training. Plyometrics build your fast twitch muscle fibers and those are what you need to build in order to be able to train your body to get your leg off the ground for either a kick or a jump. I do a lot of the jumping drills to add height to my jumps and explosiveness. Pete
  8. Kenpo and Tae Kwon Do.... Kenpo for the realistic self defense and great hand techniques combinded with the kicking arsenal of Tae Kwon Do.
  9. Make sure to set your techniques up. Start with lead leg roundhouse kick for example to the stomach as soon as your opponent blocks follow it up with a backfist to the face and a reverse punch to the body. One of the 3 techniques should score if done properly.
  10. You need to find a school that teaches sport karate. I'm not sure where you're from but if you live in Rhode Island check out Straight Up Kicking in Pawtucket they do exactly what you're looking for.
  11. Try doing quick sprints for short distances. The blitz is the exact same thing except only step forward with one step and throw a backfist followed by a reverse punch.
  12. Many judges judge the person not the form or fight. I know from experience before I could win a blackbelt division I had to compete full time for 2 years so people know who I am. I think it is rediculous but for some reason they hold you back until they see you around a lot. It is like that in every sport but in Martial Arts where values are suppossed to be much higher this shouldn't exist. Pete
  13. Just think of all the abuse your knees take. Jumping off things as a kid, slamming them on the pavement etc. Have you ever broken it? I didn't think so. So you can imagine the force required to break a knee. However, to take a person down, then the knee is a good bet. There are many ways to attack the knee and depending on how the person is stand that will dicate the kick you use. I roundhouse to the side of the knee works great to get the person down on one knee. A side kick to the front of someones knee can cause great damage and cause the person to fall forward onto their hands and knees or their stomach. Pete
  14. My philosophy on that is to do one less than what the person attemted on you. If they insult you - walk away if they push you - insult them if they try to hurt you - push them if they try to maim you - hurt them if they try to kill you - maim them and only kill if it is imperative for your survival. This way of thinking is somewhat rational. So to answer your question if they had a knife to my throat and were trying to kill me, then if giving the opportunity you can guarantee I will break that arm in as many positions as possible. Pete
  15. Why does your nose bleed when you go to clubs? That is weird... I've been hit in the nose many times. Only once did it really open up and bleed. that was because I got kneed a few time in the nose. hehe Thank god I was a young kid when that happened. hehe
  16. Great!!!! Congrats!!!! One step closer to earning your blackbelt. Pete
  17. Put it this way.... When I took my safety course before getting my firearms liscence the instructors also warned us that police officers esp. had the worst gun handling skills. Not all but many. They went on stating when they come into the gunshop they were hands down the worst. If you don't belive this statement then call Instructional Shooting at: (978) 453-4193 or email ag@agguns.com. As for the previous statement I'll get the true numbers and not ones from almost 10 years ago. I'll work on more recent numbers. Also, because you throw out random numbers that doesn't give you any credibilty either because you don't state where you get your info. and if it is something you got online at an anti-gun site that doesn't account for anything. I could do the same by quoting things off the NRA website but again that I don't feel acounts for much. So what about people like my g/f's father who saved himself with a firearm? Does that not account for anything? He isn't a Martial Artist yet because he was carrying he is still alive and unharmed. As for the loser who tried robbing him spending time behind bars says a lot. I'm sorry you hate guns so much but I'm sick of having this rediculous discussion that isn't going anywhere. CASE IN POINT: FIREARMS ARE HANDSDOWN THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON FOR SELFDEFENSE just as I stated at the beginning. GOOD BYE AND GOOD LUCK!!!
  18. Well this discussion def. drifted to a different tone. hehe As for guns killing people at least we all agree to the fact that it is people who kill people. Guns if used properly are no more dangerous than a power tool. It is a fact that more people die in swimming pools so should we now ban those? I don't have exact numbers but i'm sure I could round them up. I agree that there are a lot of people who carry who are untrained. Law Enforcement officials are sometimes the worst. This is a fact!!! I'm friends with a few police officers and they have the worst gun handling skills I've ever seen to the point I will not go shooting with them. Just because they carry everyday doesn't mean they are highly trained. The only one of my friends who I trust is a MA State trooper who has had a LOT of training and has helped me out. All in all this has drifted from what it was intended and I believe it should revert back to the original topic. Pete
  19. What the heck is a Stone??? I know pounds...
  20. I don't know if it is a traditional technique but prob. In Karate you are taught that anything can be a weapon.
  21. I agree with you on the point of tougher punishment from criminals. I stated the same. Certain people should NOT own guns PERIOD!!! However, those responsible enough to keep them locked up and out of childrens hands. I don't like the idea of firearms being used for crimes but by taking them away from lawful citizens it will just create more crime. My g/f's father who worked late nights saved his own life during a robbery attemp because he had a handgun on him. So they are not for all bad. I can see your point and your argument but in return you must see mine also. Pete
  22. Marco Ruas is Da Man!!! He's great to watch because he has great skill and is just an all around tough guy...
  23. Obviously you're the one who is insecure. Yeah I feel so much more powerful than you because I have guns. This is a no win situation but luckily for me firearms WILL be in our future and will always have a place in society weather people like yourself agree with it or not. If you don't like them don't own them. As for my owning a firearm because I'm insecure that is rediculous. Do you train in Martial Arts because you are a wimp??? I'm sure you've trained with martial arts weapons so you are no better than me. Samurai killed thousands of men with swords so should no one own one either? Or is that something different? As you have a fascination for Martial Arts I have that and the same for firearms. My primary purpose is for recreation and I hardly ever carry. (maybe 3 times per year) I'm sorry if it makes me a bad person because I shoot in competitions and go to the range on a regular basis. Thanks to the media and movies firearms are given a bad reputation and living in a country where they blame the gun and not the person is unfortunate. Instead of asking what is wrong with our society and how can we raise people so they don't want to kill themselves, commit crimes, and murder we ask how can we get firearms out of society? that is rediculous. Weather guns are legal or not they will always be on the streets. If You want to kill yourself you don't need a gun to do it. If you are thinking about suicide you will do it. PERIOD!!! Weather you jump off a building or sit in a garage with a car running. GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE... As for parents who have kids and the kids pick the gun up and shoot themselves or their friends the parents should be punished. I NEVER leave a gun lying around. It is always locked up in a fireproof safe that only I have the combination to. Instead of creating new laws and banning guns the government needs to punish people more severely when they commit crimes with handguns. That is the only way to reduce firearm crime. Believe me I'm not blind about firearm deaths but you have to know that 99.99% of LEGAL gun owners are great citizens. It is the illegal guns that are commiting the crimes and if guns are banned or not these guns will still be on the streets. If you ban guns also, the blackmarket will be flooded with them giving criminals more access to them. Pete p.s. Please close this thread!!!
  24. I bet if you have someone killed online then they can prob. pretty easily trace it back to you... hehe
  25. Well Mr. Statistic you t hink by throwing numbers around that makes you know so much. Statistics don't mean anything... Luckily for me I own firearms and you don't. So in a situation I will be much more prepared than you will. If someone enters your house with intentions on killing you and your family I feel sorry at what the outcome might be. If someone enters my house with the same intentions I feel sorry for him. All in all I feel much safer for my wellbeing owning firearms and feel I can more adequately defend myself and my family should the need arise. So because I own firearms that must mean I'm going to kill people??? I have absolutely no intentions on killing anyone or committing any crimes what so ever. By your knowing Martial ARts that must mean you want to beat people up. I'm sure that is the furthest from the truth. The Martial ARts and firearms are very similiar if used for the right reasons.
