This is perfectly normal and will go away shortly. We've all been there at one time or another. Your skin will heal and become stronger each time. Eventually you'll never have this problem again because your foot will be like leather. Pete

Everytime you get a blister and it tears when the skin heals itself it will be stronger. Your feet will eventually be like leather if you keep training and you won't have a problem with blisters any more. Pete

It is not safe to lose that much weight that quickly. Just take things easy and when you ankle is 100% then just work out more and eat less.

For $10 you can buy another pair. Why not just buy a few pairs and never worry? Pete :karate:

sparring
Withers M.A.A. replied to rabid hamster's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Point sparring is almost like a game of tag. When you hit the person you get a point and you stop. Freestyle sparring if you hit the person you keep going. Freestyle resembles more realistic fighting on the street. It will help you put combinations together so you hit your opponent multiple times not just once. Pete -
Getting back into the Martial Arts
Withers M.A.A. replied to KickChick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I've done it before and it took me about a month to a month and a half to get back to where I was. I lost some of my flexibility and jumping height but it all came back with some training. Pete -
If you really love your school and other people in the school feel the same way then you need to all have a meeting and put your heads together. Maybe you can donate some money to the school or have some type of fundraiser. Have a carwash or sell candy or something. Also, make out flyers and pass them out to all the houses in the town. These are very cheap but effective ways into making some quick money and drawing some new students into the school. Find out from your instructor how long he can stay open and how many new students he or she will need in order to survive. Then go on a man hunt and help find new students. Put on a demo and then offer a free month of classes or offer specials for $99 for 2 months plus a free uniform. Start a Cardio Kickboxing class if he isn't already. This always is useful in attracting women. Or do a womens self defense class. Pete

I haven't been in a street fight since I was younger. I did use my Martial Arts but that really doesn't count as I was only about 17. However, a year or so ago I used my training to avoid a fight where a coworker who actually spent 10 years in a high security prison was trying to start a fight. I used my training to stay calm and relaxed and was able to calm him down enough so we didn't need to fight. I was confident however, that if he were to have swung at me I would have won. Avoidance should be your main objective when training in the Martial Arts. Pete

I would say have the test done a week prior to the banquit. Have the testing completed on a Sat. and have the ceremony on the following Friday night. Make the student wait a week to find out. That builds patience. Then hold the ceremony at the school. After the awards are given out then reserve some tables at a chinese rest. Good luck, Pete

Buy a pair of Mike Chat kamas. They are very lightweight with long handles. They are made for demonstration and forms. Then go to black and Blue video and do a search for videos on the kama. I'm sure Mike Chat and John Valera have videos on them. Pete

Try slowing down with the weapon. Buy a pair of padded chucks and practice with them. When you don't hit yourself anymore then move up to the wooden ones.

I'm not exactly sure what style of Kung Fu Chow Yun Fat trained in for the movie. However, I do know that t hey sell a replica of the Green Destiny sword. It's pretty cool and sell for like $100 or so. Check ebay cause I'm sure you'll find some there. Pete

Here in Massachusetts you need a liscence to carry mace. You can get an F.I.D. card or if you have a firearms permit to carry you can buy and carry mace. I've never personally used it or carried it but my friend is a State Police officer who has used it MANY times and swears by the stuff. He also said that the stuff that is sold to the public is the same as is used by law enforcement. When you see the percentage on the bottle that refers to how long the effects will last and not how severe it is. Also, he notes if you use it on someone who is larger than you, once you mace them you should throw the bottle as far as you can as to avoid having it taken away and used against you. Pete

If you were to design a weapon
Withers M.A.A. replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
It depends on what the weapon is going to be used for. If it was for selfdefense and I would be carrying it everyday it would be a small concealable handgun that would carry a minimum of 10 rounds. If it were for Martial Arts practice, I would have a hand forged Samurai Sword built the certain specs. Pete -
Well I received my Paul Chen Practical Katana tonight. I will say that it is much heavier than the mass produced swords. The blade is extremely sharp. The polishing on the blade is decent. Not the best I've seen but it is good. However, this is also the bottom end katana from them. Their more expensive blades have higher quality polishing. The handle is beautiful and tightly wrapped. I highly recommend buying one of these katanas. The balance of the sword is far superior to any other sword I've used. I WILL be buying a more expensive blade from him in the near future. Pete

I sometimes carry a handgun. I have a liscence to carry so it is legal. I don't carry too often cause I feel it is usually more of a pain than it is worth. However, I carry my most practical weapons with me everywhere I go. These are my fists and feet. Pete

I should be receiving my katana tomorrow. I'll post about the quality and if I get a chance I'll upload a few pics of it. If the quality is excellent then I will buy a more expensive sword from him. Pete

My first class was over 16 years ago. I was so excited yet so nervous. The dojo was very large with hardwood floors. It was a converted chuch. The beginners were seperated from the advanced students and taken downstairs. That room was smaller yet carpeted. We also had a different instructor than the advanced students. I can still remember how the place smelled and everything. Pete

Tips to enrolling students ASAP
Withers M.A.A. replied to Withers M.A.A.'s topic in Instructors and School Owners
I know the summer time is the slowest of the year. The reason I want to open in August is to have everything settled before Sept. Sept. is the big enrollment month so I want to be moved in with everything to be setup. Pete -
what do you do when someone pulls a.....................
Withers M.A.A. replied to Lau gar's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Give them whatever they want except for your life. If they want your wallet or your car give it to them. You can replace these items. -
Age and the Martial Arts
Withers M.A.A. replied to three60roundhouse's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I wasn't allowed to test for my blackbelt until I was 18. In my eyes that is a good age. 16 would be the youngest I would promote someone. Any earlier I would only give a junior blackbelt which would be a blackbelt with a white stripe. When that person reached 16-18 they would be able to test for their true blackbelt.
