  1. Wow, I haven't been around in over 6 months and this topic is still going. That is amazing!!!!
  2. I wathced it last night. It was really good. I've seen similiar shows before like that. I would highly recommend watching it if given the chance. Anyone know if there are more? And if so when they will be on.
  3. I'm not sure if there is but maybe you could check out Krane.org and email them to see if such exists. Good luck. Pete
  4. If you have a black gi you want it to fade. You don't want it to be gleaming black and shiny.
  5. I wouldn't recommend trying to outbox a boxer. chances are you will lose. As Martial Artists we rely on different weapons to be successful. We use our legs to set up our hands etc. Boxers use only their hands and train just their hands for attacking. They have more combos and would have the upper hand. That is not to say you wouldn't win. I think in the end the more skilled fighter will be the winner.
  6. I'm for gun control in some ways. I believe in the hands of criminals they are used in the wrong ways. I think "some" of the laws are needed with gun control such as screening people with violent crimes and things of that nature to prevent them from "legally" obtaining firearms. HOWEVER, things have gone way too far!!! With all the daily changing laws and new standards being created everyday the government is taking a way of defending ourselves away. A gun is a tool and nothing more. It is an inanimate object. It is a machine. In the proper hands it is no more dangerous than a power saw. Here in Massachusetts the laws are rediculous. The surgeon General passed laws so the only "new" firearms we can buy are Smith & Wesson, Sig Sauer, and Baretta. Because we all know that Kimbers shoot more people. Gotta love the liberals.
  7. I find it amusing that Martial Artist are anti-gun activists. Kinda like people being anti-kama, bo, nunchaku, sai activist in the time of the Samurai when our Martial Arts were created.
  8. Crash you have some good points but I somewhat disagree on one thing. YOu stated "we have to face the fact that point fighting, forms and weapons comps. will never be exciting enough for the general public to be made into a professional sport type event" and I agree with the point fighting side of this. But, the forms and weapons side with the way we include acrobatics and fast techniques the general public is somewhat starting to relate. There was a show 60 seconds of fame where 3 kids did a synchronized form (open style) and they won the competition. They had the crowd on their feet. Maybe this is only one case in point but if more exposure was brought to this type of competition who knows where things might lead. Pete
  9. I can't be arrested for carrying a gun as I am liscenced to do just that. But if I were to pull it on someone because someone called me a name or something of that nature I would certainly be arrested.
  10. craknek those are some very good points. I couldn't agree with you more. Forms are great because of their historic value and can help develop certain techniques and are great for demos and stuff but people nowadays want to learn real world techniques.
  11. I taped it but haven't watched it yet. I'll watch it later tonight and let you know. Pete
  12. Cool, thanks a lot... Too bad I missed it... Time to set the VCR up to tape the 2 am showing.
  13. I agree that if you use a firearm in a self defense situation it will be in close range. If it is further than 10 feet or so you should be able to leave the situation. Providing your attacker doesn't have a firearm. As for the revolver vs. semi auto it is a good point the revolver won't jam. A revolver without an external hammer is good because it won't snag as easily on your pants if it is in your pocket. Reloading a revolver takes more time but chances of firing more than 2-3 rounds is highly unlikely. I personally carry a Baretta 9000S compact in .40. I like the size and feel of the gun and I can fairly easily conceal it.
  14. WEll I'm really glad we got a lot of really good responses on this topic. I truly believe this is a very important topic. I honestly believe the Martial Arts will never die out because there is always a need for self defense. Maybe someday only the military will need Martial Arts but I highly doubt it. When people live in communities there will always be conflict. IT is out nature. So I believe the arts will be around for another thousand years but they will evolve, as they should, to accommadate the needs of the times.
  15. If your gi has a lot of stitching you can just roll the arms and legs up to where you want it.
  16. THis topic may start a big debate but I'm starting it anyways because I want to know your views on this topic. What do you feel is the effective self defense weapon that you can "legally" carry on you concealed? I personally feel that a small handgun is the best. I personally carry sometimes. I'm legally liscenced for concealed carry. I believe that the firearm is the best weapon (when used properly) for self defense purposes. However, depending on the situation I feel Mace may be a better weapon because of the nonlethal consequence except that people build a tolerance to this and many criminal are barely effected by it. People can't build a tolerance to gun shot wounds. What do you, or would you carry for self defense. Besides the obvious of your hands and feet. Would you carry a gun, knife, club, mace, or other? Be realistic also. You can't conceal a samurai sword or a bo staff...
  17. Just think had I not have left my ranking on the site would have been a black belt. Now I have a ton of catching up to do.... hehe
  18. Hopefully things will pick up. I think too with the economy in a lull people are more conservative where they spend their money. First thing people usually cut is fitness programs.
  19. Do you think the Martial Arts are growing in numbers, meaning more people training or do you think they are dying out or just staying neutral? I'm not sure myself the direction they are going. I've noticed there aren't as many Martial Arts movies anymore. There are some but for awhile there was always a new one coming out. There were more "straight to video" movies also. But on the other side of the coin I see a lot of celebrities including Martial Arts in their movies. That could help. I would think that with all the war and terrorism going on more people would be joining a Martial Arts school to relieve stress and to feel more confident about defending themselves and their family. What are your views on this topic?
  20. Thanks for welcoming me back... It is nice to feel wanted. LOL Well I've been really busy. I put off opening my dojo (for now) because I was offered a job as a salesrep and the money was just too good to pass up. This is a good thing though. This way I have been saving money like crazy. I'm getting married next year and then a house sometime after that. The job I'm doing now give me a steady income and I will be able to open my school in the future. The beauty is that I won't have to take out a loan when I do open the school because I'll have enough money set aside. And with the economy in the crapper right now I'm prob. lucky I didn't open at this time. Pete
  21. I've seen quite a few in my days. Some girls go and they are just there for a boyfriend. usually I high ranked instructor or senior student. It is quite humerous. I've never seen any instructors hook up with one though. HEHE
  22. Well I haven't been around these areas in a long long time. I've been really busy. Well I am back to join in on all the fun... Anything new going on here? Any changes? A lot of new members? Any good topics? Let's get these topics going strong... Pete
  23. Sport karate can be anything. The system you are studying should have a foundation in some "true" style. You should ask your instructor what style his background is. I trained for sport karate for many years and competed almost every weekend for many years but I still have my foundation in Kenpo and 'Tae Kwon Do. We trained for competitions at the school I was at (Straight Up Kicking) but the style was still based after Tae Kwon Do.
  24. I haven't been on here in a while. I updated a few things on my weapons list. I bought a .40 caliber Baretta 9000S compact handgun along with another Sig Sauer pistol. This is the 220ST in stainless steel in .45 caliber. Packs a pretty mean punch. I'm also planning on buying a Glock 22 fullsize .40 caliber handgun. 22 is the model number it is not a .22 caliber pistol it is a .40. Plus I bought a reloading press so I can make my own ammo.
