  1. Its not unheard of to pass on a gi. I think its a really nice idea.
  2. My wife and I ran into a guy in Indiana who had a very worn belt to the point it was a cream color and not black anymore except near the embroidery on the belt. She asked him how old it was and he said not that old just 7 years. She said wow how did that happen. His response was teaching 40 classes a week and training also.
  3. I would like to know who this kicking specialist is? You can PM me if you like. Anyway there are people that just have the ego their and training just feeds it instead of humbles it. Sorry to say that but its reality. Sohan makes some very good points as usual though and I agree with him.
  4. Thats right!! I have done that very thing also on a few occasions it amazes people on how easy it is to get cut. I like the new training knives that have the marking blades.
  5. I agree on the touchless knockouts. They just don't mesh well with me at all. The idea of him being the leading expert I would disagree. I think I would lean more towards Seiyu Oyata for that.
  6. Both so that people can associate with the terminology in their native language and also know it in a foreign language also.
  7. Believe me I have been attacked with a knife twice you don't want to be in that position. Your legs go limp and feel weak and its one of the scariest things I have ever faced and probably ever will. Thank god I came out ok.
  8. I would say the third site of the ones listed above. Hanshi Dometrich has a great reputation in Karate.
  9. My suggestion would be Okinawan Goju Ryu or Shorin Ryu. Shotokan is good but I don't like its kihon as well to straight for my tastes and to much muscle. I like the arts that encourage more technique precision then a lot of shotokan schools do. The pushing looks better for competition in some cases but Shorin and Goju will give some flair for competition and strong self defense.
  10. If you hemmed them it would take very little not much.
  11. dpends on how long they are. They are supposed to be long enough that if you bend your knees slightly they cover your feet.
  12. Yep I have done them all like that before, I agree its a workout but its great.
  13. Good kata you will be learning.
  14. Seijitsu Shin Do Karate
  15. Thats human nature get knocked down get back up. It is a naturla habit that needs to be broke.
  16. If you are referring to GM Mark Shuey I have seen him demonstrate some of his techniques and I thought they looked pretty good.
  17. I had a carry conceal permit when I lived in Indiana and I did carry a pistol. Used it once to scare off someone who was following me. Gotta love the dark country loads and fields.
  18. I didn't take a liking to it easily in fact it was very difficult for me to learn and get comfortable with took me a lot of years but in the last few years I have gotten more comfortable with it and I am liking it much better.
  19. Thats could be considered OCD no offense intended. I hope you never get caught with all that stuff.
  20. This is one issue I am going to confront when the parents come in to discuss the classes. I like to have a good time sometimes I am just the biggest kid but when I am serious I am dead serious which is most of the time. I can get down on my knees and play with the kids just as well as teach a very hardcore class. However I have always been able to control the kids for the most part with exception of a few and retain them also. I don't do anything special except be myself. Testing will be scheduled once a month and everyone who wants to test must sign up no later then 2 weeks prior to the scheduled test day.
  21. Man things like this make me mad. Sorry to hear about the dojo but at least no one was in the building.
  22. I wear my styles patch and one or 2 of the organizations patches I belong to at most.
  23. Not always not all systems allow it such as iaido. Its a traditional split pant worn by the japanese for formal events. However it is common to see in the practice of all sword arts and Aikido, some styles Ju Jutsu, aiki ju jutsu, sometimes in kobudo Dry clean only. Make sure to remove the black plate first though as teh solutions can damage it in cleaning.
