  1. If you know it well and you can teach well then go ahead but look for a new school at the same time. Always remember just because someone is good at something doesn't mean they can teach it.
  2. Pro Force makes a nice on but Mizuno I imagine would be the top grade.
  3. Good suggestion on the usage of the technique. I to teach it more in a blocking manner then a striking manner. However I do both.
  4. Yeah they can be difficult but I had to pretty much learn them trial and error because my instructor at taught them did them by pure muscle and had no idea how to really make it work without forcing it. It was very sloppy with him. I learned the dynamics of them and then was able to drop people that weighed in at 250 fairly easily and these are people he had some fits with because of their size. Not bad for a guy that now weighs 160 and then only went at 135. If you ever need help with them I would be happy to help a little where I can. Sounds good. When I start reviewing my ICHF, I'll be corresponding with you if I have questions. I will be here

  6. Yes I do practice it. I have devoloped it to the point I can break a board with it but I don't recomend it. Its a great strike though.
  7. 7-8 is what I voted closely supervised adn restricted on how fast and strong they practice it. Learn the technique and control before speed and power is my philosophy.
  8. Jion was one for me. I don't learn kata easily but this one for some reason the hand movements messed with me. Then I bought the video JKA Kata - Jion that Nakyama made years ago and bang I finally figured it out. Hand and foot techniques were fairly easy for me. There were some joint locks and throws that were a little difficult for me though.
  9. Good job!! Keep up the good work and you will achieve Shodan and beyond.
  10. nice job. From now on you shall be known as "Speedy" j/k very fast.
  11. I have heard there is allot of feuding between both schools. They both teach the same material so shouldn't they both be just as applicable? Sometimes its not the material but the method and depth it is taught.
  12. sand them then tung oil let it dry then repeat the steps
  13. It won't hurt you as long as you perform the technique correctly and don't try to muscle it.
  14. I to am sick of the MMA articles.
  15. I am personally devoloping a a little bit a of a gut but its solid. I don't do the amount of crunches I used to but once I get the dojo open its going to be part of my daily routine. I know that I am not 15 or 16 anymore and my students show me that one occasion but I think keeping yourself fit is essential to a healthy lifestyle and good martial arts training. Those that devolop health problems as they get older may get heavier as a result that does not mean they can't teach. Its the ones who are do big they can't hardly walk or get up out of chair that I wonder why they are still trying to teach. Thats a heart attack waiting to happen. You have to look at the person and why they are bigger not just their big and they can't teach MA.
  16. Jaymac, You hit it on the head. Power comes from technique not muscle.
  17. I agree there will be some that will practice style but envy another and they other may be their favorite.

  21. You really show how much the study of martial arts means to you in this post. Glad to see the history of the arts means something to you. I love everything about the martial arts. I love learning about all of the styles. I like hearing other people's takes on art and style. If you lived near by, I would call you up and hope to work out together, not practicing karate or TKD, but practicing martial arts. If you are ever in this area let me know.

  23. I just renewed mine and will possibly be selling it in the dojo also. I just know what to weed out I guess.
  24. I also prefer the Okinawan arts. Seijitsu Shin Do is based on Okinawan Karate and Ju Jitsu even though I have practiced Shotokan style karate not straight shotokan I like the more circular movements better and the higher stances.
