Internet and DVD's are your friend I have a extensive library of DVD's and I will be in touch with Bruce Heilman at some point about Kobudo certification through the USKA also but in the meantime I have taken what I learned a long time and am going with it.

I am not sure where you got that from but you have unfortunetly been misinformed. The nunchaku were used on Okinawa as a horse bit and as a farm implement of sorts. The last part may or may not be true because according to the Ryukyu Hozon Shinkko Kobudo Kai the nunchaku was not used as flail of any type just a horse bit. The original nunchaku looked like this: http://www.weaponsconnection.com/weapon_images/s_orig_nun.gif Then evolved into this: http://www.shurite.dk/Modules/Articles/nunchaku.jpg

I think maybe because the koreans did such a good job marketing the name. -

Thats very true. TKD just has gotten a shaky name becuase of shaky people using the name. -
Not bad. If you ever get a chance watch George Alexander perfomr Hakutsuru Kata.

Good TKD schools takes 3 to 4 years but I have seen plenty of TKD schools that guarantee a black belt in a year. That does not mean there are not karate schools that do this but its a common practice with McDojos to use the TKD name and its just one of the many reasons it is so wrong. -
I can't hear you!!!!

Its like anything it should become habit to do it correctly and in the right places. -
Well finding a quality kobudo school here is tough. I found a kobujutsu instructor thats willing to teach us and help us get ranked though. I didn't know she taught it but she is still almost a 45 minute drive one way. I do teach a couple of kobudo kata that I picked up almost 15 years ago but the new ones pattern many of our empty hand kata to help the students become more familar with the weapon.

Yeah they were kinda big but its all I had available I was borrowing someones set. My wife had a very nice set that had been custom made she was borrowing. Anyone looking for well crafted weapons take a look at the Weapons Connection just fyi they are very expensive. I will probably stick to shureido but they are nice.

I thought I would share some pictures of a seminar my wife and I plus one of our students attended with Kiichi Nakamoto, Hanshi / Judan from Okinawa this past Saturday. Was a long day 10am - 5pm wiht a 1 hour break otherwise solid training. All on Kobujutsu specifically the Bo, Sai and Tonfa. I made a fool of myself with the Tonfa but still had a good time and learned a little couldn't retain all the information he relayed in such a short time. Anyway we got a lot good laughs and so did Nakamoto Sensei. Enjoy them!! http://www.fisherkarate.com/photos/nakamotoseminar/index.htm

Thanks I have a working list but just trying to get feedback from people who use companies. AAU does have it and has for years but not really interested in joining AAU good suggestion though. -
Wrist grabs are used to get someone to come with the attacker, or to set up for another attack. They are not all that common but knowing how to defend against them is essential in my view. Just being able to break the grab correctly in defense without using a strike is good.

If its the dojo not the organization then the owner of the dojo should be able to name it. Like mine is Fisher Family Martial Arts Center but in Japanese is Fisha Kazoku Budo Chushin.

I have met Jeff Speakman Don 'The Dragon" Wilson Bill Wallace and many other top martial artists. I find many are very busy with teaching, training, traveling, running their schools or their jobs to take the time online to visit these sites. Most times I am visiting late at night myself while I am taking a break from working on other things. Also many times alot of bad mouthing happens on internet forums which keeps people away.
