Full Contact fighting
Brandon Fisher replied to Yasutsune Makoto's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My friend and training partner in Indiana was a champion amatuer kickboxer and I trained with him. Much of the devolopment of what is now Seijitsu Shin Do came from the training with him. Seeing what worked and what didn't. I learned real fast what didn't. Nothing less then full contact with us and man he hit hard. -

Yeah you have to sort through some of the trash in BB but some is still good. -
Shipping was expensive on one the other was purchased at the Tokaido shop in tokyo. Actually I am more fond of the Shureido line but I appreciate the offer. There is one major retailer that I have a wholesale account with that you can get tokaido's that cheap also but I can't say on a chat board.

I got mine direct from Tokaido for $125 + shipping.

I am sure you will enjoy it.

I agree its one thing to get a heavier as you get older, its another to just not take care of yourself and overeat. If its a case of a health issue that has caused it thats something different.

Sorry I have not heard of him.

Best Academy of Martial Arts

Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate it. -
I agree with you two. There is something about a student that works very very hard who has things either coordination, balance or lack of athletic skill but they keep training hard. That was me being visually impaired things didn't come easy at all but I refused to quit. My wife who has a inner ear problem and gets dizzy easily keeps persevering. Those are the the students who I have a great respect for.

True things must porgress and grow. But I do believe in traditional martial arts ryu-ha that teach someone to defend themselves. To many schools are using XMA as a system and saying its self defense. -

Show me the bunkai of what they are doing and I may be more open minded. I see no practical purpose in it at all. -

Its gymnastic I didn't say it was gymnastics. I clearly know the difference I have done both. -

You would get Capoeira practitioners upset by comparing the two. Thats true just like comparing it to Karate. People look at this and think its karate also but its not. It gymnastic showmanship not martial arts. -
If I can offer any help let me know by PM.

Never had that opportunity. I will be attending a seminar with Nakamoto Sensei (Goju Ryu / Kobudo) next month though.

Its from Al Tracy which i believed trained with Ed parker. However it is now a national chain specializing in private lessons. I have seen some good, some very good and others that weren't worth squat. Depends on the instructor.
-
I have seen plenty that were larger and looked fat but were solid and in great shape. Then there have been many more who didn't workout, train or even take care of themselves.

Good for you!! I am not sure I would use kill but it stopped him dead in his tracks and let him know you were the wrong target. I am pleased that you stood your ground and you are safe. God knows what would have happened if you had not done it.

My first instructor didn't use the terminology and when he did it was incorrect. He made claims thats were ridiculous such as teachign a sister style of Shotokan but he didn't teach kata at all. It was glorified street fighting and thats it. I added the terminology and kata to the cirriculum to give his claim creditbility. The fact of the matter is if you are teaching a asian martial art even if founded in the USA but its still japanese or okinawan style karate the terminology should be used.

I have heard of it before but a little unclear on it.
