  1. I think the ref was too strict on the 1:00 limit if you watch that video, since he got up and was ready to continue right after the buzzer sounded. However, Matos' response to the disqualification showed that he was not deserving of a medal, appearing to only have developed the physical side of the art. Here are some pictures of the incident where you can also see how badly Chelbat was injured from the head kick: http://www.nbcolympics.com/taekwondo/photos/galleryid=251421.html
  2. Try Satori-gi.com for a custom gi under $200.
  3. Actually, there are no tags on the Shureido besides the label. I think I'll probably just go for another KB-11 jacket, but it's a little expensive.
  4. Sort of, I just don't know how to compare the Shureido weight to the ones you've mentioned.
  5. Hey all, the pants of my black middleweight KB-11 Shuriedo dogi fit, but the jacket does not. I'm not sure of the oz. weight of the jacket so I'm not sure how to compare it to other dogi in weight. This is one of the dogi where the color fades to sort of a 'stone-washed' look quickly.
  6. I prefer the flat, rectangular focus pads to the circular focus mitts, as the mitts are like gloves that will require more frequent cleaning due to sweat of the pad holder. The focus pads are attached with straps, and don't have spots that keep moisture inside, so tend to be less smelly most of the time, though they have the disadvantage of not being as easy to hold for the holder and feeling like a cushion rather than a padded target on contact.
  7. Does anyone have any experience using GTMA gi?
  8. Sorry, can't go with the new type of gi because I need a black gi. 15 oz is very heavy? You may be right, but are you talking about a 15 oz Satori gi?
  9. Pacificshore, Did you get the Traditional Style or North American gi?
  10. I'm considering getting a Satori gi, and must choose between 12 oz (appropriate for intermediate students, teenagers, and individuals of lighter stature) and 15 oz (their "trademark", original version). They are both at or above heavyweight, so I don't know how much they will differ with 3 oz inbetween them. Some considerations are temperature, wrinkling after washing/drying, and how heavy the gi feels. If you own a Satori gi, opinions about it would really help.
  11. Can anyone contact Mr. Fairborz Azhakh of Team Karate Centers? He hasn't been responding to my emails. I need him to remove my contact information from MartialInfo.com.
  12. I was considering getting the new material type uniforms, until I found that they were only available in white. For my martial arts school, the black belt ranks wear black uniforms. Does anyone know of any good black karate do-gi?
  13. I will be getting the belt from eosinpanther.com , so stiffness would not be an issue with the width. Both ends will have two lines, so that is why I am still looking at 2", as the lines may be too constrained on 1 3/4".
  14. I am getting a new black belt and am trying to decide between a width of 1 3/4" and 2". Any personal opinions or suggestions?
