  1. I agree with both Sohan and GOM. Remember he is only 9.
  2. I have to agree $900 is crazy. I felt bad about charging $150 testing fee for shodan. However thats a Shureido embroidered belt and certificate.
  3. I agree on taking a breather and relaxing. Clear your mind and relax. Make sure the boards are placed correctly also sounds stupid but its simple things like that, that can be overlooked when stressed. Make sure there are not any knots in the wood that could be stopping the break.
  4. Yeah I might be.
  5. Shugoro Nakazato - Head of the Shorinkan Shoshin Nagamine - Founder Matsubayshi Shorin Ryu Chojin Miyagi - Founder Goju Ryu Gichin Funakoshi - Founder Shotokan Ankoh Itotsu - Creator of the Pinan Kata Series
  6. If you can throw them proficently and accurately with a lot of speed and power they work. However not everyone in fact not the majority of people are that proficent at the high kicking level.
  7. I have never thought about it
  8. Good job. Congrats on the new rank.
  9. I personally use the cat stance I learned in Shorin Ryu mostly because thats where I first learned it but I am most comfortable with it.
  10. Go to centuryfitness.com and look for their stretching machines. They also have a demo video on their site on how it is used.
  11. Just a little addition to the description. Neko Ashi Dachi or the cat stance does put a lot of weight on the back leg about 90% normally and the other 10% on the front leg. Here is a image of a Shotokan cat stance I found on google http://www.keithgeyerkarate.com/tipshtml/stanceimages/catstance.jpg One more of a Wado-Ryu karate-ka: http://www.wadoryu.co.uk/gallery/images/photo6.jpg I hope that helps a little.
  12. I have never used one but I have heard they do help. However its like regular stretching it has to used on a regular basis.
  13. I taught at a dojo tonight working just wrist grabs and they couldn't believe all the different variations possible and I didn't show them hardly any. I love teaching some of the simplest things, sometimes thats really the most fun.
  14. I never hit anything that is a solid surface with the tip of my elbow. However I have broke 4 inches of patio block with my forearm.
  15. Congratulations on the black belt and good luck on the instructor stripe.
  16. I personally like Power breaks or KI style breaking. Its funny to see people when you break a board thats on the bottom of a pile and they think you missed but when you pick up the top boards and the bottom falls because its broken the looks on peoples faces are worth million.
  17. Sorry to hear that. I have a bad knee and I know knee injuries are very painful. I wish you a very speedy and complete recovery. Take care of yourself.
  18. I have to say one of the best I have attended are 2 that Bill Wallace did one in Cleveland and one in Indianapolis. I throughly enjoyed myself and after meeting him in Indy he remembered me and I ended up being his uki in Cleveland. But I really learned something each time.
  19. Neither do I but 30 punds is almost $40 which still isn't bad.
  20. I used to be able to do that when I was 16. Great to hear that there are still some great kickers coming up through the ranks.
  21. Buckeye, Good luck on Saturday can't wait to hear about the results.
  22. A well executed Hook Kick is like poetry in much I think. Its a great technique.
  23. There are a handful of people but unfortunetly I don't know all their names.
  24. Yes thats hakutsuru
