  1. Proper practice of Sanchin will build strength and power thats for sure.
  2. I agree sit down and have a discussion with him on this issue. Make sure the school owner is present.
  3. Shoreismurf, I agree totally about it being an honor and not a right. I am still not sold on the Jr. black belt idea though. This was an issue that ultimately caused the split between me and my instructor.
  4. Only use your knowledge in self defense do not fight over words.
  5. My first instructor the one who promoted me up to 5th dan is a 10th dan and I trained with a Sensei in Indiana who was a 5th Dan at that time and and is now a 6th dan.
  6. Here is the breakdown for promotion time for Seijitsu Shin Do. white to yellow (shichi kyu - Rok-kyu) 3 months on average some make it faster) yellow to orange (rok-kyu-go-kyu) additional 3-4 months orange-green (go-kyu to yon-kyu) 5-6 months green - blue (yon-kyu- san-kyu) 7-8 months - most make it a little sooner blue - purple (san-kyu - ni kyu) 9 months purple - brown (ni-kyu - ik-kyu) 1 year brown - shodan 10 months - 1 year I know that I am going to confront the issue of a 12 year old brown belt and I am not sure yet what I am going to do about it.
  7. Remind me to never let you hit me with a elbow. WOW 24 inches.
  8. Thrust Side Kick, Front Thrust Kick, Roudhosue Kick and my most powerful and actually quite acurate is my jump spinning back kick.
  9. 15 is the youngest I will consider someone for shodan. The Jr. Black Belt trend is extremely strong right now and its sad at least in my opinion.
  10. These types of break require a great deal of speed and power together to work correctly. Your balance and focus on the technique must be almost perfect for it to work correctly. Always keep in mind this is a very dangerous way to break do to the boards not being supported. I hope this helps a little as I did not quite understand what exactly you were looking for.
  11. I know a guy that did 1000 in 90 minutes for a charity fund raiser. That guy is in unbelieveable shape though. This is him doing one of his well known demos. Not quite push ups though. Don't look to close if you have a weak stomach http://www.seijitsushindo.com/misc-pics/masterperry.jpg
  12. I wasn't comparing humans to cars but it demonstrates the point.
  13. Speed does generate power just look at car accidents for example.
  14. Maybe one evening a week you could ask her to go for a walk with you? Good idea. When the weather is nice my wife and I try to do that at least once a week but normally its 3 or 4 times a week.
  15. I agree start with wood nunchaku. I personally do not allow my students to learn with foam. I have seen people get careless and then make the switch and really get hurt.
  16. Ok here is what I require to Shodan: Self Defense: Nearly 200 different techniques or combinations of techniques Kata: 3 Kihon Kata 5 Heian 3 Naihanchi Bassai Dai Bassai Sho Empi 2 Bo Kata 1 Nunchaku Kata Bunkai for all the kata Tameshiwari (Breaking) must include one cinder patio slab) Otherwise students choice Kumite or defense against a full out attack Terminology Pressure Points Oral explanation of the history of martial arts.
  17. Well last I ordred from them was about 6 years ago so I know they didn't offer it then. But no biggie I still appreciate the fyi.
  18. I like Nunchaku that are wooden octagon with a cord. The ball bearing chain ones are ok those are what started with but I really like the traditional ones better.
  19. Normally you hear of Tameshigiri using a katana and I have seen some beautiful deomstrations done with a katana. However my current katanas are the cheap ones that just don't do much even though they are sharp but I am going to try with my kama. As anyone ever done it? When I try I will film it and if it works I will post a link to a video.
  20. I change it alot so I really don't have a favorite. Really confuses people sometimes also.
  21. Again you are very welcome
  22. Thats right your physical issues should have nothing to do with whether you make it to black belt or not. It should not measure dedication. I am visually impaired and was born completely blind. With a lot of prayer and a miracle I have some sight. My wife has a structural ear diease which basically means she was born with missing bone under her left ear. This is the bone that helps people not become dizzy when pressure in the human head increases. So she gets dizzy alot but she is still a good martial artist. Those that may think otherwise please spend some time with students that have problems of some sort and see how hard many work to get something down that may never happen to what some full standard may be but the dedication alone is worth it.
  23. I hope this is ok with the admin. I have been looking for a good translation service for quite some time and its been hard to find that they are efficent and deliver in a digital format. Eri Takase (https://www.takase.com) does a fantastic job but is expensive and doesn't deliver in a digital format. But in a stroke of luck I found The Japanese Connection (https://www.thejapaneseconnection.com) and had them make a hanko seal for me. It came out great so I had them do my name and my wifes name in katakana and again just beautiful work. I highly recomend them!! I am not affiliated with them in anyway but I like to share good news whenever possible.
  24. I had not been able to confirm it but just want I had heard.
