  1. I was just informed this past weekend I need to learn Gojushiho and Unsu for my rokudan. I am excited about learning them both but Gojushiho is one I have wanted to learn for a long time.
  2. Well I did found my own. Originally I called it Tai Shin Jitsu which was a solely ju jitsu system but did not include the otherside of my training which is in traditional japanese / okinawan karate. So this year when I split from my instructor I took the ciriculum I had laid out for him and added more to it and renamed Tai Shin Jitsu to Seijitsu Shin Do (Way of the faithful heart). The system has different style aspects to it also. Seijitsu Shin Ryu Ju Jutsu - solid ju jutsu Seijitsu Shin Ryu Karate - Solid Japanese style karate Seijitsu Shin Ryu Kobudo - which is a complete weapons cirriculum that includes the Bo, Nunchaku, Tonfa, Kama, Sai, Nunti Bo and Eaku A combination of the above systems make up Seijitsu Shin Do
  3. I started working on my own philosophy and adapting it in 1994 and 4 years later I named it and then recently renamed it to fit everything I have incoprporated. With over 20 years experience I have founded my own system. 5 years is no where near enough time for that. What about a cirriculum, ranking system and all. What rank are you in the other system?

    Sweeps

They must be off balance enough for it to work correctly otherwise chances are you might go down instead on a counter from that person.
  5. I had a student once who was and very open about it. Very nice guy and a very good karateka but unfortunetly the drug habit he was trying to overcome when he moved to Ohio got the best of him again once he had been here for awhile.
  6. Good for her. She felt threatened and she so she fought. I guess if I was in her shoes I would rather fight adn try to live then worry about what he would do if he got me. Gun or no gun in a life or death situation I say fight.
  7. Sohan, Very true!!! Thanks again.. I know we will do well just know it in my gut.
  8. I'm sure you two must be so excited. Good luck to both of you! Respectfully, Sohan Thank you, yes we are very excitied but scared at the same time.
  9. Travis, I am glad to see that you are throughly enjoying yourself. Keep up the good work.
  10. Tokaido https://www.tokaidojapan.com and Shureido https://www.shureidousa.com
  11. Because I love it. I love waht it teaches and the benefits gained from it. Plus I have used it to save my life or defend myself.
  12. I have no doubt that many or even most of the XMA people are good at traditioanl martial arts as well. But to me the gymnastics and flash doesn't have any place in the martial arts. Martial arts were created as a means of self defense. Today it has become more flash then substance because of things like this.
  13. My wife is extremely supportive. She is less than 48 hours away from her shodan promotion and we are about to open our first storefront dojo together. She teaches 7th grade math and then does karate at night.
  14. Given your size I would have Shureido or Tokaido custom make you a gi.
  15. I would have refused to compete. No 100 or 11 year has any business judging in a tournament.
  16. The first thing I saw of the martial arts on TV was the tv show Sidekicks with Ernie Reyes Jr. at least thats the first I remember.
  17. Look at the XMA video that discovery channel has out. There is a guy on the video that did that very thing using his 2 index fingers put together. It is possible. I still break using my big toe sometimes but it takes a lot of conditioning to do that.
  18. That was a very nice creative form but not quite my thing. I was at national tournament this past weekend and that kind of kata competition took a back seat.
  19. You body will condition for it. Mine did and now when I block I don't really feel it anyway more. But the other guy does.
  20. I spent 2 years in a shorinkan dojo while living in Indiana and I have a great respect for the system and the sensei that I have had a chance to meet. Just this past week I visited 2 different shorinkan dojos while in Indiana and it just made me smile the whole time. You are in good hands and the history of the system is top notch.
  21. There are a some karate systems that teach weapns kata and weaspons defense but most weapons training is kobudo.
  22. I did not know him but had heard of him. My sincere condoleneces go out to his family.
  23. How do you all feel about $20 a belt test up to ikkyu and shodan is higher because of costs on certificates and all?
