  1. Only because of a student of his opening the door.
  2. Here are the kata of my system: Kihon Kata Shodan Heian Shodan-Godan (I am going to start teaching the Pinan version though) Naihanchi Shodan - Sandan Bassai Dai (working on learning Passai version so I can teach it) Bassai Sho (working on learning Passai version so I can teach it) Empi Kanku Dai (working on learning kusanku so that I can teach that version) Hangetsu Jion Weapons Kata Note: Gyomin Katas are my own creation and unique to Seijitsu Shin Do for its Kobudo Cirriculum. Each one I plan to have a second kata to each weapon maybe even a third. 3. I had known him for many years but had never trained with him before that. Good practioner not such a great teacher.
  4. Rightfully so they should be called Shihan. Glad to hear it.
  5. You can learn online or from a book if you have a good solid background and you are just trying to pick up some new kata that is within the range of your current system. But I say to pick up good basics or learn a new system online or from a book or video is not such a good idea. To many little details that you can miss.
  6. It ws the one made out of ash.
  7. Thats for sure
  8. True. My hand loosens but does not open all the way.
  9. I married her.
  10. I have never had the honor of training with him. I have heard that he is a very good martial artist and teacher. I think it would be a true honor to train with him even for a short period of time like a seminar.
  11. When doing kata my fist is tight but not overly tight. It is very much what I picked up from my traing in Shorin Ryu Shorinkan clinched fist but evertyhing tightened and then instantly relaxed at impact. The pentetration power on those strikes once they are devoloped and done very well is amazing and absolutely letheal.
  12. I can't comment on whats different but Jeff was trained by Ed Parker so I think what he teaches his students is very similar to what he was taught.
  13. Yeha you seriously have to watch those soke councils. Many of them are nothing but diaploma mills or money making schemes for the directors.
  14. Seijitsu Shin Do is not that unique in reality it does have some rare or unheard of blocking in some the more advanced techniques such has blocking a strike and trapping it not only using your arm and hands but shoulder as well. It does fit my body style and sight ability very well as there are sensitivity training learning to react off of feeling and not just sight which is not extremely common. However this is only small parts of the system. But I would never claim it being completely original. The weapons kata cirriculum is though except for 2 kata and is expanding.
  15. Nunchaku and Kama are my favorites. Bo is becoming a close second to those.
  16. I just ordered one from century to start working with it. But it is very light and not really a eku in my opinion to flimsy. How do I know about it being flimsy well it was delivered with the oar part broken in half.
  17. I have been taught a little I had a instructor willing to teach me but the price was unreasonable especially since he was only a shodan and he really wasn't that good of a teacher. Plus other things surfaced about him later.
  18. I highly suggest starting with either a 5ft bo or a 6ft bo depending on your height. As far as lightweight competition bo's I personally do not have any use for them.
  19. Thats a very good point. I hate being called master
  20. I voted side but roundkicks I like a lot also.
  21. Technically master's rank has always been 5th Dan by what I always knew until most recently like the last 8 years or so where 4th dan has been masters rank. Personally I think it should be 5th dan in most cases but I think once should have at least 15 years in the arts and be at least 25 years old. However thats not always the case.
  22. Not in my mind why should you have something to worry about.
  23. I have seen it done many times and judged competitors perfomring it in tournaments on a few occasions and I agree it seems to show everything in it. True karate I think is a good explanation.
