  2. I liked that comparison...as for the last sentence...I agree....we are all one big family with different ways
  3. Old classics plus comedy and detective stuff like Charlie Chan, Sherlock Holmes and like that there...it's kinda hard to find...at least I find it hard to find
  4. Gee, I'm getting old. I didn't see much of what I use to know as heavy metal kinda stuff on here. I never heard of some of the others. I think that I need a trip to the library to hear some of this other music. I'm more of a historian.. Black Sabbath and Hendrix and others from back when
  5. guitar. Not very well but I play for me
  6. First of all, welcome. As for Shorin Ryu and body size I have hear that before but as others have said and suggested there is no hard and fast rule. If you can adapt you'll be fine. Good luck on your path

  9. respectfully... the only way that you can take the "human" element out of judging is to have a computer do it...but then it depends on who and how the computer is programmed I suppose...

  11. Excellent, I would be interested in seeing it if it hits the net. Please let me know. As for breaks... ok, so this has been done and it was in the movies but I would like to see someone do it... 3 long neck beer bottles in a row with one pass Snuffing a 2 church candles one on each side of you (I am told that they are made so that they are draft resistant and do not blow out as easily...it could be one of those old wives tales that this old man heard) exotic wood (not pine or cedar but something with a really tight grain (not very showy but I have seen people do stacks of tight grained woods and I at least appreciate the effort (althought such wood is expensive. Sorry of these are childish sounding...I would just like to see them done (or done again)
  12. I did a search Wenatchee Washington karate and came up with what appears to be a number. Wenatchee School Of Karate was one of them. There are others that may be in neighboring towns. Try the search as I have and see if any town is near yours. Also, I would check park districts in your surrounding area to see if they offer MA. Around where I am a lot of instructors teach through churches and park districts. Good luck on your path
  13. Isshin-Ryu uses some weaponry. I know some other styles do too but a lot of times the weapons training is limited and one must go outside to get more training
  14. I kept journals (including kata movements) years ago. Now, when I want to reflect back on it I can't find it. A journal is an excellent idea. Just keep it somewhere so that years from now when you need to find it you can
  15. Snakes...big small I fear them all
  16. My understanding is cardio is best done with your pulse at a reletively high level for at least 20 minutes.
  17. Let me extend a warm welcome to you and welcome to the forum
  18. Gee, nobody needs to be verbally abused be they senior to you or you senior to them. Respect is alway welcomed and expected in the school. As for harming people, I am not sure what technique level is expected (full contact or what). Receiving a black belt (BB) in Japan does not mean that his techniques are more powerful than anyone elses although I have experienced people thinking that way (or wanting others to think that). I knew someone who studied got their BB in Japan used far too strong techniques because he could not control his massive power which he obtained while in Japan. Our instructor at the time, also trained and promoted in Japan years before that, mentioned that a great BB not only has powerful techniques but great control of them as well. At the time that corrected the problem for a while. I am not suggesting that this person be told this. This is just an old experience I had seen. Abuse (verbal or otherwise) is not acceptable. Lack of control that can harm others is also not acceptable. Besides, nobody in a dojo should ever be threatening to kick another dojo member's rear end.
  19. I didn't know that. Interesting. Thank you
  20. It was my understanding that Yoon Byung-In returned to Korea as a shihan of the Shudokan. Small world indeed.
  21. I think the kata asked about is Hakusturu but I may be wrong. Hopefully phatkata can advise?
  22. Interesting photos of the vans and the other photos are pretty interesting too. Thanks for sharing
  23. I don't train because I need to...although someday I may need to. I train for the experience of it. I don't practice as hard or as long as I use to but I do practice more often -- as I get older
