  1. Yes indeed. probably a dozen in this country alone. I think that the problem was Shimabuku never really dictated a successor. Some of the first generation students never really dictated successors either (those that claimed/received 10th degree).
  2. Welcome BlackCat!
  3. Rick_72 make many good points. I have had instructors call and at times it was a matter of money. Some instructors I had the money did not matter. Of course, the fee was small but when you are young even small fees are a lot of money when you work retail (or at least it was like that in the early 70's...that $1.90 and hour didn't do much. It was a pay what you can and if there was a money issue there was no problem training. Of course, this instructor had the dojo in the basement of his home.
  4. ahem... its KamasandSais.... Sorry for the misunderstanding. I understand. I was commenting on your choices of weaponry. You wrote "...and have mastered both sais and kamas..." I was referring to your weapons and not your name. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
  5. Welcome David!
  6. This is great. It adds a personal touch to the training and it possibly get information to the school as to why the student has left.
  7. I totally agree. It appears that you woot are looking for soemthing that will teach you a lot real fast. Even if there was such a thing it would depend on your own natural ability to speed achieve. Personally, anything "traditional" would not be what you are looking for. You should find something that is pretty much all streetfighting. Perhaps find a real, real good streetfighter that would be willing to teach you. Just my suggestion. Good luck
  8. What would the translations be for each? Thanks
  9. Wow. In my younger days I was wrestling with a buddy of mine and threw him back over my shoulders and his knee landed totally in the middle of my calf (I dropped to my knees before hand to be able to do this)/ The calf is still night right. I hope that you are better after hitting the wall
  10. Sai - for no other reason because I am more familar with them than any other weapon -- of course traditionally we carry 3
  11. Especially the 20 year older part this would stun him. Being 50+ I can imagine the conversation working on me. Good luck
  12. Run! run like the wind!! Find another school
  13. I agree with Jiffy. The Chief Instructor is in charge and has the say. These ideas can be presented to the Chief instructor if there is a forum for such a thing.
  14. I am insterested. Let me know. thanks
  15. Regarding Shudokan kata, I would think that the kata Soshin is not the same as Sochin of Shotokan and others. Is there a video available somewhere in some form of the kata Soshin or is this one of the "guarded" kata? Just curious. Thanks
  16. I totally agree...start early so you can make mistakes with others at your level and learn from them. Good luck
  17. Being left handed and left footed I appreciated Bill Wallace. I saw the gi but I never had the courage to buy or wear one. We were traditional in the 80s and such a gi, even in a parade, would not have been appreciated. It is a great looking gi if you can wear it
  18. Guards = Middle outside block Strikes = Reverse forearm strike Kicks = Front kick to groin
  19. Isshin Ryu us kind of different from other styles. Is uses the ideas of both Shorin Ryu and Goju Ryu. It uses higher stances and the vertical punch among other things. Someone once told me it was almost as if it was designed for American bodies. Sometimes I wonder if the American troops who trained under Shimabuku were of some influence to him in developing the style. Although I prefer the corkscrew punch there are applications for the vertical punch that make it most effective. I am not sure what style you came from but you might like Isshin Ryu. Good luck
  20. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome!
