  1. Pain is your body telling you something. One way or another you have to listen to it. One way or another you either take care of it or it takes care of you. That's the realist in me. The man in men says work through it. The man in me (where my foot is concerned) lost. Now the man in me has to deal with the consequences.
  2. I wish I could do that now. i wish I could say that I use to be able to do that.
  3. "You ain't studying karate!" "I can still kick your...._"
  4. If you are competing in kumite...relax, stay calm and have fun. Remember your basics and count heavily on them. Good luck
  5. Myteacher--- one did english with Japanese and the other Japanese with english. To this day it is difficult for me sometimes
  6. I don't do TKD but my teacher (who didn't do TKD either) explained it this way years ago. If your going to kick someone in the head who is 6 foot 2 (at the time 6'2" was big) you have to kick a lot higher than 6'2" to get full effect). The other part that he mentioned was it takes great leg strength to perform the TKD kicks. As for being practical, for the most part, all styles need to adapt a bit in every fighting situation to be effective and thus practical. My first teacher was one who had great respect for any "style" of MA. He use to say there are many ways but this is mine (referring to his style). It's all good!
  7. That's a great idea! Thanks
  8. I agree that American Martial Artists should go to the next level too....that level being back to basics and back to tradition. It will never happen but it should

  13. TKD does things differently and unfortunately, as in life, if your not in the mainstream people have issues (Just my opinion). Of course it works both ways. I read that TKD masters used the red belt below black to stick it to the Japanese/Okinawan masters. Not sure this is true because I was not there when they did that (I feel younger already! ) but that is what I read somewhere. Someone (can remember his name) studied under Toyama and his students (the guy who I can't remember his name) had students who founded some major Kwons. Look it it this way, now that I think if it I like to think of it this way, it's boils down to sybling rivalry. Again, just my opinion.

zenshin gyakuzuki is not totally clear to me but I believe it is some sort of a reverse punch at least the gyakuzuki part of the term would somethat indicate that. Perhaps this is a reverse punch in a zen
  15. At this point I am learning to perfect what I have already learned. Someday perhaps I would like to learn the Kyoku kata series (or some of them)
  16. Some are pretty darn funny. Thanks
  17. Leshiye, welcome. I am looking forward to learning from you.
  18. Isshin Ryu had 8 to reach Shodan So Ryu had 12 (which included Ura Jion and Ura Patusai) but not Kihon kata (which there were 4 of them. The Kokyu kata have always interested me. Michio Koyasu was a student of Toyama and as such a relationship my interest sparked. We did a Kihon Kokyu ho kata which I don't believe was considered Kokyu. I heard many things about the series of kata and the guardedness of the kata which interested me all the more. I don't suppose that there is any other written information (be it historical or techniques used) about these kata. I would think not but then maybe someday???
  19. Thank you for your input
  20. Thank you all for your help.
  21. What's next? As you have said above you are just finding you. My suggestion is work on finding you and then fly in the direction that the true you determines. The best of luck to you
