I dont think Diego could beat Matt, just like I dont think Babalu can beat Chuck. Matts power is too much for him, plus his experience, Matt has double the fights diego does. The more immediate question is can BJ Penn beat Matt Hughes again? We'll find out in Oct now that St. Pierre is out.

I practice Kempo and Ryukyu kempo and it has brought alot of form to my punching as well as the Chin-na practiced in Ryukyu kempo could end a fight by alternative methods.

personally, I would suggest either Muay Thai or BJJ, or a combination. In between(and this is kinda sneaky) schools like I am right now. If you have Torrent or Limewire or the like you can download instrutional videos and study the hell out of them. I consider myself a Kempo fighter, but I have learned alot from the BJJ videos the gracies have out. Bas Rutten also has a really good workout video out. Just some suggestions

That's a fantastic suggestion. We'll gather in Patrick's back yard and BBQ. Yeaaaaaaa! I love food! But maybe we should work out first, or everyone might regret it! Count me in! I make ribs that make you wanna melt! That would be cool though.

I have an odd situation here
BLueDevil replied to BLueDevil's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This might sound odd of me, but he admitted to his instructors that he is guilty. He sat all of us down and let us know what was gonna happen, I did not expect him to get arrested AGAIN and then ask for back pay for while in jail. The fact that he wasnt teaching, I look at as a breach of contract. I dont feel I should pay anything, am I wrong? I think I will pobably find a grappling school to join anyway to round myself out. -
FYI only, my teacher was taught by Bill Packer, Tom Conners, and currently James Ibrao(as well as a 2 other teachers) Dont worry I know what you where saying, and I agree
-
Wow, that is really young, I used to have people hold a basketball between his forearm and cheek while shadow boxing, also working on thai pads helps. But him being 6, you could always tie a rope around his neck and wrist while shadow boxing. Just a few suggestions

For those of you that read my post (or you can refer to it here: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=27999 ) My instructor is out of jail (Im thinking on bond) and is now calling and asking for back dues. He says he is opening a different building with his 2 top instructors who are ONLY brown belts as the instructors of the school. He says he will not be teaching at all but wants to collect dues. I actually heard this from a fellow student from the school. I havent been there in a few months now. My Sifu called him and told him this over the phone. This whole situation kinda p*sses me off, I havent been getting lessons from him and the 2 people that are going to run the new school CANNOT rank me anyway. They really arent much farther than I am. This situation sounds like I went to a McDojo but I assure you it was the real deal. Im not sure what I should do, any ideas?

Somebody taught by Parker IS the real deal. You should go back and learn what you can. Parker was not only a pioneer but an excellent teacher. My teacher's teacher was Parker, and he did a great job and taught a great art. I can truly stand and say because of what I learned I can defend myself

I second that

I like the UFC, i think those guys could definately hold there own in a fight. Most of the techniques are sound and in org like the IVC anything can be done so I think a medium like that is a good way to test skills. I do however agree that while it is "As real as it gets" it isnt exactly like a real fight. but I still do enjoy the UFC and other MMA organizations

how young is too young to begin grappling\joint locks?
BLueDevil replied to tke010's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think it depends on the childs level of maturity, I think someone around 10 could grasp grapling while being supervised. -
Sounds like the right course of action, BTW I read your Home Depot story, I used to work at HD and let me tell you people like that are normal. I got it almost on a weekly sometimes more basis. Getting back to the topic, like I said I agree with what you did, there was NO reason to grab you in that situation. I have somewhat of a temper in that situation so I would have found myself off the bus pounding someone(probably not but you never know) So you did good

I dont speak for "karate masters" but as a guy, if a girl tells me she likes girls I usually get the picture and dont get mad, that seems to be the concensus with my friends as well -
[Attention grapplers] Kenpo 5.0

The problem with this statement is that you are assuming the yellow sash understands and performs the material as well as they would at a higher level. This isn't true. Just because I may have learned Seisan to receive my green belt doesn't mean at that point I was as qualified to teach it. My current years of experience have given me insight and refinement to my kata that enables me to teach it with a deeper understanding than I ever could have at greenbelt rank. Could I show the pattern to someone as a green belt? Sure. Would I be have been able to teach it as effectively as an instructor should at my current level? No way. With respect, Sohan I understand what your saying Sohan, and thats what Im afraid of. I already told him up front that I can teach him but I have yet to be ranked as a brown belt officially. I think it'll come out OK

[Attention grapplers] Kenpo 5.0
BLueDevil replied to gateqway's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Ive got a lot of tapes and instructionals on BJJ and I ve always felt Kempo and JJ where 2 arts that should have been one. Both of them being no nonsense get the job done arts. Props to Speakman! "The perfect weapon" has upgraded. haha -
Sorry guys, I should have mentioned that I have been an asst. instructor for a little over a year. So I CAN teach pretty well but obviously not as well as say a black belt. My instructor was part of the Jun Bao organization under James Ibrao. But as far as I can tell its a small org. and they wont be sending anybody. One student from a while back has come to the school and taught a little but I dont think its going to be a steady thing. I have thought about finding a different school. Im seriously thinking about taking a grappling art to round myself out. I had a higher ranked student at my school that taught me some BJJ that he learned informally. I have no fear that my friend will misuse what I teach him at all. He self admittedly has a love for the martial arts and has studied Shotokan in the past and is now wantign to learn Kempo. Some of the students and my friends are leaving the school as well as myself. I told one of my friends I was teaching a friend and has expressed interest in practicing with us as well, so I havent decided what Im going to do about that. Im not charging anybody so Im only profiting in experience and knowledge. Should I persue training with old partners as well as new? Or should I just train my friend and leave it at that? Or....shoudl I train alone and drop the whole thing? I dont have the money right now to start a new school so Im kinda stuck....thoughts people?

Hey guys, My instructor has resently been put in jail for some undisclosed reasons. Our rankings go: white sash yellow sash orange sash purple blue green brown 3-2-1 black 10+ I have acheived my green sash and have finished my brown 3 chart and am ready to test. Heres the deal, my school was very young to begin with and I only have technically 2 people higher in rank and they are a brown 2 level, unable to test me. So I stopped going to the school and am practising at home in my free time. A friend of mine wants to learn and I need someone to practise with so I offered to give him lessons for free to help both of us. Do you guys think Im doing the right thing? What would you do in this situation?

I have actually had all my fights before I even studied MA. Ive had several sparring matches where in my school we try to fight as if its the street, few rules. its good for me because a suprising amount of people in my school have either been in very few fights or none at all. So I can gauge what I beleive will work based on my past experience. Which of course is not the same for everyone but I can also find holes in someones technique, example- if they are appling technique incorrectly, if there transition from one technique to another is unrealistic. Anyway, my combinations before MA like my last fight was basically me pinning the guy against a fence with my left hand around his neck and pounding with my right fist...it worked Ok but I could have won it alot faster with technique

Help Legalize MMA
BLueDevil replied to pittbullJudoka's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Since im from TX im not eligable, but good luck! MMA is my favorite sport -
Ive always believed a good base in one MA and then plug the holes in would be the best strategy. Kempo/Muay Thai+BJJ/Judo or my fav Sambo You end up well rounded Just my opinion

You would easily chop him down and then hope he doesnt remember you in 12 years!

Any good recent MA films
BLueDevil replied to Orion's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I gotta say Final Fantasy:Advent Children had some amazing sword fighting for it being a CG movie. But if you didnt play the game then the movie wont make much sense. Unleashed and Ong Bak where also great movies. I also enjoyed the fight with the man in white. Batman Begins had some good MA in it.
