  1. IMO the TUF fighters all are not that great.
  2. As a huge fan a Jet I am sad to hear this.
  3. I cant say I was the least bit suprised. I think George St.Pierre is going to take Matt in the next fight. His stand-up makes Hughes look stupid, and his ground game easily meets Matt's. GSP Next WW champ!
  4. I think we should clear something up. Its not that handing out belts is a bad thing because everyone progresses at their own level. What most on this board are against, I think, is the false pretense that someone of a high rank is a good martial artist. I have met people that train for a year in my system and progress fast and there are some that have been in for just as long who have only earned a yellow sash(our first belt). I think if you can apply what you learned correctly than you deserve your rank.
  5. From what I read about him, that would be a short fight
  6. Love that movie. So how about fighting Ed Norton or Brad Pitt? Great actors, probably cant fight though... We also have a guy at my school that likes to hit the smaller folks way too hard. He doesn't pull that crap on the rest of us 'cause he knows we'll flatten him. That crap just cheeses me off... It's hard to retaliate on some one when he never does it to you. Grr. Tell ya what laurie, you kick your dojang jerk in the head this week and I'll do the same. That'll show 'em! Brad Pitt did some MMA training for Mr. and Mrs. Smith Matt Hughes, Tom Cruise, Chuck Liddell, George St. Pierre, Ed Parker(just to see how fast he was), And while im on that page I gotta say it....Bruce Lee
  7. I have no problem doing what my teacher says but my common sense will usually tell me if its something questionable then yeah, question it. I know general shot to practice technique and sparring is part of learning but nobody in this day and age deserves to be someone's punching bag to make himself look or feel better. As for opening the school, kudos! I believe the quality of what you teach will ultimately decide how successful you'll be not some guys who obviously have self-esteem issues.
  8. I too am sorry for your loss. My sifu and school never really have put a lot of emphasis on belts, me least of all. It sounds like you have a really good handle on your chosen art and have already branched off to things you obviously see as gaps. Keep training where you can because the knowledge is the important thing. belts just hold up your pants
  9. This unfortunately is not the case anymore in the UFC. I doubt Royce will have time to rest and wait on the ground. As if they didnt already stand fighters up fast enough, the very defensive style of Royce will only encourage the ref to stand them up as the uneducated spectators boo the ground game. I didn't say he'll necessarily wait, though if Big John is refereeing I am certain that Royce will be given ample time to plan his attack and keep an eye out for opportunities. He'll still have more time to rest on the ground than on foot, so I believe a ground game favors Gracie. With respect, Sohan There is a big difference in trying to submit someone that doesnt realize what your doing (which is what Royce was really good at in the beginning) and trying to submit and rest while getting punched in the body and head Oh, I'm sure he's prepared to be smacked around a bit. But Royce is still quite capable of defending himself on the ground. One shouldn't forget he still has an 11 lb weight advantage as well as a height advantage on Hughes (if they are fighting at their regular weights), as well as the fact that he's successfully gone against strong heavy hitters in the past. Trust me, Royce can take a punch, and he's gained 10 years of BJJ experience since his heyday. It's not as if Royce has been parked on a couch eating HoHo's since 1995. Besides, I seem to remember stating I thought Hughes would win. Youth, power, and being at the peak of his fitness should gain him victory.... ...maybe... With respect, Sohan Well, Royce was TEACHING Bjj for many years before the first UFC so of course he has only got better. I honestly think Gracie could take this fight, Matt has already shown more than once he gets easily caught in submissions before. But seeing as Matt is definatly on a roll right now and nobody can match his power right now it could, in my eyes, go either way

  11. One last thing, I think alot of people are forgetting the Gracies have been doing Vale Tudo fights long before th UFC was around
  12. Im picking Gracie on this one, He has been teaching BJJ for years before Matt even heard about UFC so im gonna have to go with experience in this fight because ability is something both fighters have. I just think Matt has shown to be submitted easily a few times, I think he would want to GnP Gracie but Ken Shamrock put him through more than 30 mins of punishment and Gracie never gave up due to strikes. He has also only lost a few times and none of which where in the UFC... I guess we'll see! Good luck to both
  13. Militich systems is a very respected MMA team if I had the chance to train with them i definatly would
  14. Ive been in a few FC scuffles and I usually find my arts serves me well
  15. Ed Parker Ip Man Chuck Liddell Bruce Lee Randy Couture Helio Gracie Not in any particular order
  16. Im wondering, and Im going to ask my instructor about this but is Kempo kickboxing still around? Im not even really sure what the rules are, are they similar to Muay thai? I was just sitting around and I had read Chuck Liddell was once a kempo kickboxer. Any info on this?
  17. Well, I guess the last instructor scared some people off for sure. Luckely I have gotten a reputation for being a thorough teacher so I had a few people come in because they found outI was teaching. I decided to start from the very bottom and do footwork and basic block punch drills. Most where beginners so I spent a long time on basics. I tend to hammer on things over and over again. I think the class in itself went well. Thanks for the suggestions guys!
  18. Long form 3 Short form 3 Mass attack
  19. opponent:right hook my answer:left cross opponent:left hook my answer:right cross Not saying it'll end the fight but I like to keep it simple
  20. Since my teacher teaches both I tend to practice hung gar when im in between belts in Kempo. Im able to absorb things better that way. My head would explode if I tried to learn 2 different styles, which they arent VASTLY different but they have there gaps between them, my head would explode.
  21. 16 katas There is a formal test that you have to be in full uniform for and you testing partner has to be in full uniform, of course the instructor picks your partner ahead of time. Tests are really long in my system.
  22. Ah well tomorrow is the day it begins. I think what we intend to do is start with the basic drill alot of you guys have been suggesting. We'll be working on one person only punching and the other side defending then get into one side only kicks and the other side defends and probably some trapping and then me and my friend will (time permitting) free spar a bit to let people see where all of it is going. Sounds like a pretty good line-up for beginners. Anymore suggestion just let me know im sure I am not the only one this is going to help. Thanks to everyone so far with the suggestions.
  23. MT is one style I deeply respect and am actually think about looking into in a few years, Ive done some reading about it and never heard of MT point sparring
  24. thanks for the great input, everybody seems to be on the same page as me and my friend. the class starts on Thursday, so keep the suggestions coming Another idea that we were throwing around was practice on trapping drills, and of course combinations with and without trapping.
