  1. Well, I definately wouldnt wait to train, nor would I train with a bum Wing chun teacher. You sound like you really like that other school, you should just do what you enjoy aqnd if that Shaolin style is what you enjoy I say go for that one
  2. IM one of those that says it depends on how well you retain knowledge and practice could be 2 years, could be 10. I also beleive that Black belt is an intermediate level
  3. Honestly, Im not far enough into my chosen styles. So far ive learned stand-up, chin na, ground defense, lots of counter grabs. I wont know what will actually work in a real life situation until it actually happens but I havent seen any weaknesses yet...
  4. Fight the person not the style. In my opinion, and just opinion, keith Hackney was doing well again royce until they where pressed against the fence and hackney did not give Gracie the respect he deserved on the ground. Im a Kempo fighter, you think for one minute Im gonna shoot on a BJJ fighter? NOOOOO, Im gonna keep it on the feet and end it quick and painfully
  5. I agree on your comment on mirko cro cop, but I do think that other styles besides muay thai are good for the octagonthats what i said
  6. In my MA philosophy, it holds true that ANYTHING could be a weapon. its the weilder(sp?) that breathes life into its purpose
  7. I think you definatly need many skills but I think Muay Thai work very well for MMA. Look at the success of CroCop in Pride! the big Left kick from mirko has topple the biggest heavyweights. If he came to the UFC he would dominate the HW division
  8. I think if your with a group of MA peers and your doing it to learn and you set some small boundaries it could be a great tool. Bruce Lee and Hawkins chueng and wong shun lueng set up rooftop fights all the time to learn what really works in their art for certain situations (among other things) If your fighting to imitate chuck's book with no underlieing reasons than your doing it for the wrong reasons and it will mean nothing, the book and movie where trying to make a point about society
  9. you're absolutely correct... they could. If you understand your styles principles, you can adapt it's techniques. The question there is why don't the do that... and elbows_and_knees like I said its no secret they can handle themselves on the ground I know how long they have both been grappling I'm not talking about handling themselves on the ground though. I'm saying his striking is so effective because he's such a good grappler. His takedown defense is what gives him his ability to remain standing. Well, hopefully someday someone will step up and use Kung fu effectively in the octagon...
  10. Kenpo/kempo are the same, just different pronunciation of japanese characters The art is a mix of circular and linear striking it also mixes chin na (chinese grappling) a friend of mine studied shotokan and there seems to be more multiple striking in kenpo than in shotokan. i would suggest you check it out
  11. when I said some movements are illegal I ddint mean that barred them completely from competing. Im not making excuses, but to compete NOW THAT THERE ARE RULES they would have to modify some techniques. Like Subgrappler said BJJ has some moves they cant use but modified, the same rule could go for Kung Fu guys, they could modify just as easily... and elbows_and_knees like I said its no secret they can handle themselves on the ground I know how long they have both been grappling
  12. but the stuff in hero looks nothing like kempo and hung garI was looking for something practical so I went to EVERY place in my little city. I knew that stuff wasnt what I was going to learn, it was just a MA reminder that I wanted to learn something
  13. We definately put more emphasis on kata just because our techniques are hidden inside the kata therefore we are practicing technique while we master the forms
  14. from what what ive seen Wing Chun tends to be more simple and direct while Hung gar is more circular...definatly research, attend a class, and research their lineage. those are really important.
  15. My Sifu makes us take em down In some matches he wont award points unless we get a takedown (sweeps, chin na, knee kicks) then we punish with punches or kicks...
  16. Seriously...that didi not look like a real fight, it looked very much like an "I got paid to fall"...Ive always hated that little brat, just one more reason
  17. Wow, somewhere we got into MMA discussions anyway..... Anything can happen in a fight so stay sharp and spar or dont whatever helps you acheive your goals
  18. Well, what reminded me that I wanted to find something was the movie "Hero" I saw that and I said "man I need to learn SOMETHING!"
  19. As of now the UFC got rid of the NHB rules and implemented some rules that could get them past the NGC and back onto pay-per-view check out https://www.ufc.tv for te official rules
  20. Alot of Kung Fu styles like Wing Chun or Hung gar have movements that would be illigal in the octagon so I know they would have to modify there techniques. I also know that some MMA are cross training Kung Fu, BJJ, Muay Thai. So a few may be using it without anyone knowing
  21. Sure he did it once, can he do it again? I say wait and see if he wins his next bout
  22. I have the same guy in my class Your human, you get mad I wouldnt worry to much about it unless something happens outside of the school
  23. I gotta say....its not a bad characteristic to have
