You can now get a B.A. Degree in MA in the USA?
BLueDevil replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Manditory time for MA, and you get a degree? Sign me up! Seriously. i would definately influence my decision to join a particular school should the owner have one. I would for sure want to see a Curriculum(sp?) before I bought into it fully. -

Ths long and nobody mentioned Samurai Champloo?!?! Trigun is also great although it deals with more the martial ideals than the arts, great show though -
Funniest line Ive read in a little while.... Anyway, breaking boards has always been something identified with MA. Thank you 70s MAists, lol

Favorite Fighting Game?
BLueDevil replied to NightOwl's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I love Tekken, the whole series is really fun I also like God of War, cool style of fighting. -
I must disagree, Chuck Beat Randy when at the time people thought was almost unbeatable. Sobral did make a mistake but it was obviously not a fluke as Chuck KOd him TWICE. Dont forget his earlier bouts with Vitor, Overeem and Mezger. Very very impressive wins. Sure he lost to Rampage, but lets look further....Tito beat Silva. Could Tito do it again? I think not, could Rampage beat Chuck Again, possibly, but probably not. Just my opinions

Question for ya'll please
BLueDevil replied to savedbygrace's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I assume your working at home, if your training everyday or at least 5 days per week I dont think its out of the realm of reality to be testing in 2 years. But Im sure when the 2 year mark comes closer you'll be more sure in your skills and so will your instructor. He may also be trying to set you up with a goal. You never know with those karate guys -
I agree with alot of the points above, but one thing that got left out is "Yellow cards" they use in Pride. A yellow card is something you get for inactivity or a foul (hitting the groin on purpose, using elbows). If you get a yellow card they deduct money from you fighters purse. This is ment to force fighters to stay active and not stall. Sounds good right? Maybe.... You get exciting fights and I think you LOOK like a better caliber fighter because your staying busy, problem is some fighters start to worry about losing there money, start staying busy but getting sloppy("Rampage" Jackson is a great example) BUT on the other hand UFC has no incentive for staying active other than standing up stalling grapplers, this makes for very boring fights sometimes (i.e. Tim Sylvia vs Jeff Monson,Andrei Arlovski 3) IMHO Im a UFC fan before im a Pride fan because I like elbows, but if a good Pride event came on, I would sit and enjoy it bacause Im an MMA fan first and a UFC/Pride fan second.

Hughes could have taken more time to recover and both kicks happened in the first round where Hughes lost in the second, I dont think they affected the outcome. Maybe Hughes composure suffered but its risk you take walking into the octagon.

I kinda agree, I'll just wait to comment when its done. They COULD do a good job -
Made me very happy that night, I like when belts change hands. Its good for the sport, it forces fighters to get better.

Wow, lotta love for GSP and Chuck... 1. Chuck Liddell 2. GSP 3. Anderson Silva or "Shogun" Rua(cant decide)

Been following MMA for years and alot of people thought Ortiz would take it the first time and Chuck ran through him. Here is my opinion on the situation. Ortiz beating Forrest by close decision, not very impressive(some could argue he lost this fight). Ortiz easily beat a well over the hill Shamrock twice, not that impressive. Tito hasnt shown much improvement since his last fight with chuck Chuck avenged his loss to Randy twice who most know is better than Shamrock, but is still over 40 so if you want to argue the same point as above I'll give you that one. BUT Chuck also avenged his loss to Jeremy Horn by TKO, very impressive. CHuck also beat Renato Sobral within 2 mins, a much better grappler than Ortiz. Sobral has in the past beaten PFC fighter "Shogun" Rua and went to a decision loss against FEDOR. very impressive win for Liddell. Overall Chuck has stopped tougher opponents than Tito. Im giving this fight to Chuck by KO rd 1 or 2

"We must have emotional content"-Bruce Lee You dont need to be angry to be aggressive.

I agree with the leg locks and striking, Judo throws would be at the top of my list. You could seriously confuse someone long enough to take care of the problem, officer or not. If I wasnt an officer I would lear to sprawl and defend takedown attempts(you think your the only one who knows how to ground fight?) I would also learn to control the distance with my jabs very well, and know how to use lateral footwork for those Oh-so-special windmill'ers And I would work on my cardio in case I had to run the heck away from some behemoth

I saw the fight and it was amazing how he controlled Franklin from the clinch so easily. It was good performance by the now champ. I know this may seem a little off topic but Silva cant really be considered a Pride fighter anymore, he hasnt fought there in like 2 years and before that he didnt fight there for a year. Maybe he could be considered a Cage Rage fighter....His win doesnt bring UFC stock down IMO http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/fightfinder.asp?FighterID=1356 here's his stats^

actually I use ankle and wrist weights every time a train, for this purpose. I think I have really fast hands but like was stated before your technique after they are off is hurt. So if your going for say a competition and its a few weeks away make sure you train hard up untill 3-5 days before without the weights so your body gets used to not having them off. If your not getting ready for competition then I would say 50/50 training. Do half your workout with and half without, but mix it up so your not doing a whole half with weights and a whole half without so if you work for an hour do 15 min with 10 without 10 with 15 without. Keeps your body from peaking, plus you get the better workout. just a suggestion

You need a manager for sure, you need quite a few fights or a title in another org. You need to win those fights in an "impressive fashion" for big orgs to pick you up. Some gyms have connections with these orgs and they will let you know up front most times. If your lucky you could take an easier route and try to get on "The Ultimate Fighter" but even that route isnt that easy.

martial arts scary in some peoples eyes?
BLueDevil replied to little kicker's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think starting it is definatly scary to some people, I know I was nervous cause I thought I was going to get beat up for a while and sparring with high ranks scared the bejeezus outta me but its like swimming for the first time, it make look cold but jump in and your bound to have fun!
