  1. Awesome, I really enjoyed that. Thanks for the post
  2. Hello, welcome to the forums. Its a great community.
  3. Really almost anything done to your throat or neck area could be exceptionally damaging. It doesnt take much to knock someone out when you know where/how to hit, same with chokes.
  4. Nice! I dont think I can make it to the wednesday class (due to work) but if work permits I can come check it out on one of the Saturdays. Do I just ask for Mike? I think you can recieve pms from me so I'll send you my email address, if you dont mind answering a couple of questions. Thanks alot for the info
  5. I must not know the right people lol Do I need to be refered to your school? could you PM me some more info? I've been looking for a school since mine closed down.
  6. Ive never liked Tito or thought he was even a good fighter. IMO he's an average wrestler with little striking and mediocre JuJitsu, no idea why he keeps getting big contracts, must be his mouth.
  7. Yeah no doubt Silvia isnt that great but for someone to put away a 6'8" 265 Ib man in about 30 seconds is just crazy. And a former champ to boot, I thought he;d make it atleast a minute haha
  8. "When pure knuckles meet pure flesh, that's pure Karate, no matter who executes it or whatever style is involved." -- Ed Parker
  9. I'd probably go with Tommy Carruthers. He's a JKD practitioner that has amazing speed and strength, also he flows his strikes so well. Would love to learn from that guy. Or Rickson Gracie, 2 reasons 1. He's one of the toughest guys+one of the most technical. Could definately learn alot from him. 2. He lives in Brazil, lots of nice looking ladies from Brazil
  10. It starts with me in my family. Going to start teaching my daughter next year and my son when he gets older.
  11. Ive always considered it a style, by definition its mixed martial arts. So your putting together different MA to create a whole or to patch something you consider a weakness maybe. I mean you could put Kyokushin sparring rules to an MMA practitioner, he would still use MMA right? Now youve just limited what the MMA practitioner can do. Or flip it, Kyokushin fighter fights under MMA rules, he's still Kyokushin, just now he's limited to MMA rules. Basically I'm saying slapping rules on a match doesnt change the mother art in my opinion. an MMAer is going to use his style of fighting because thats what he was taught, effectively making it into a style in itself.
  12. Of course, but dunno why you would do that and not atleast practice something.
  13. I assumed once the woman got aggresive with him he want to the back to call the cops, not sure though
  14. Thing is, Im not sure what the guy said to anger the girlfriend. Obviously she's not justified but the guy maybe should have removed himself form the situation, take a walk around the block then coem back for your pizza. Maybe thats one course, I really cant say for sure. As for being a a witness to this, I gave it some thought overnight and Im pretty sure Id step in somehow. Not sure what id do as the situation would call for improv but I just couldnt in good conscience let that happen in front of. I fI was alone at the time then itd be easier, if I was with my family Id see to there safety and then step in.
  15. So I was cruising some other messegeboards and I saw this video posted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMIuG3HvV0Y Now when this happened there was alot of bystanders around and really this could have been alot worse. But my question is what is the right thing in this situation? Would you step in and risk getting hurt? (keep in mind the guy is over 300 Ibs) Could you just sit and watch this happen right in front of you? Honestly I watch it and I get pretty angry at the situation and feel I may have stepped in, I feel with training its almost like I Id feel responsible if that happened and I did nothing. BUT I have a wife and kids so im not sure what I would do, the things I do especially in a situation like that could have consiquences that effect them, not just me. This forum is filled with very level headed people and Ive been in and out of here for a long time so Ive come to respect everyone here, I just wanted to see how you guys would react
  16. Clearly the Gracie Slap http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc306/VashtheStampede1/1-44.gif
  17. Determination or Relentless is a good one as well This is harder then it sounds :/
  18. Well in MMA your cardio is of a higher importance then in many traditional MA. But similarly they drill techniques pretty endlessly (different techniques of course) Also your traditional school will probably teach more street oriented techniques while MMA is more about competing. Not sure what else your looking for but glad to help if I can
  19. I enjoy Ryu Te, has alot of real world application.
  20. What do you mean? I think he may have been looking for footage of your instructor/ style to see what kinds of things you do. I know I will be. Sounds like you have a great instructor. Yeah my school closed down and due to some personal reasons my instructor doesnt teach right now He was a 3rd black under Tom Conner/Bill Packer and an 8th black under Oyata. He was a great teacher though just he has some personal as well as medical problems (back problems, neck problems). his name is Phil Hower I dont have any footage per se atm, i'll try to hunt some down though or record some stuff if I get the time
  21. What do you mean?
  22. I trained with Evan Tanner a while back before he became champ
  23. I just moved ot a new place and Ive pretty much made the garage my "Man cave" as my wife calls it. I have my heavy bag, free wieghts, wave master, a good amount of space to do my forms (most of them), and I have a fairly high energy dog that I take jogging to keep both of us in shape.
  24. Nothing wrong with training to stay in shape and such but I do kind of laugh when older people try to get into the fight game late in life. I'm 23 and I've been into martial arts since a very young age. I kickbox competitively and I see a lot of 30-35+ people trying to jump into the game and they don't last. Injuries take longer to heal at that age and 9/10 times there is no hope for that person to get to any sort of elite level. I know it is kinda mean to say but it's the truth. Im 23, so because I dont want to become "elite" I shouldnt train at all? Maybe they want to do it to get in shape, theres things outside competition that give people reason to start martial arts.
