  1. Id rather see him fight a big name, which pushes me to order the Affliction PPV. Plus I havent seen Fedor fight in a while, curious to see if he got any ring rust
  2. My teacher's teacher is Taika Seiyu Oyata, really amazing system. Very effective and painful
  3. Form 4 Here's a guy doing at full speed: And here's Jeff Speakman doing a variation in his movie: A Perfect Weapon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPqoIEexbjg
  4. In the interest of sounding like a broken record, realistic training is key IMO. I think thats why alot of styles falter, they train too much in idealic situations, very little resistence while practicing. I know Kyokushin incorporates heavy sparring (atleast thats what I have heard) as well as BJJ and muay Thai, I believe thats why they are considered by the general public as effective, they can basically go full speed at all times making the practitioners more comfortable with the pains of getting hit or choked. Ryukyu Kempo trains alot like this as well. It all comes back to realism and training like you would in a real encounter. Sadly alot of MA schools dont encorporate this
  5. I'd do this over this reality sparring anyday. Also, what kind of simulation are we talking about here? Is one of the people going to start throwing haymakers? Are they going to use their training? Are they going to attempt to sucker punch you? Are there going to be simulated weapons, knives, chairs, beer bottles etc? Ive been in a few scuffles and I havent personally run into a highly trained adversary walking down the street, not that it couldnt happen and of course you prepare for that as well but majority of people in fights on the street are going to be untrained, adrenaline fueled guys swinging to take your head off. A common occurance on the street is so unpredictable, I think it would be more logical to practice and train in a realistic manner everyday.
  6. Looked like a renter to me Not because its bad or anything but some types of movies I like to see in theaters (like Iron Man) and some things I'd rather watch in the privacy of my home.
  7. Heh, if he's confident in his own skills then why not let the girl he likes win? Its just a little tourney, there'll be others
  8. First off I just want to say I love Kenpo, its my base and I actually do practice everyday. I have a pretty good handle on it, acheived a black belt in my instructor's system, he studied American Kenpo and Ryukyu Kenpo and taught both of them to his students. That said, Ive gotten into numerous arguments about unity in the kenpo world, I always felt that we should unity under a counsil of parkers students like, but not limited to, Paul Mills, Larry Tatum, James Ibrao, Huk Planas etc. (just to throw some names out there). To decide and discuss techniques and what direction the system should go. It would have been so much easier for Parker to name a successor IMO. But Ive expressed these opinions to several people and for some reason I get chastized and I even had one person tell me the "brotherhood" mentality (paraphrased-) only weakens the kenpo system and waters things down. Feels like all they do is argue spawning jokes like "How many kenpoists does it take to change a light bulb? 10 One to screw it in and 9 to say 'Thats not how Mr. Parker showed me'" Ive always been an advocate for Kenpo unity but I doubt its gonna happen in my lifetime, and people will continue to question kenpos validity because we cant even agree on our own system. Makes me sad
  9. Hey guys, just came across some news that (as the title suggests) Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC, has bought Pride. For those that dont know Pride is UFC's biggest competitor in the MMA market with several world class fighters. They are based out of Japan and are currently trying to break into the US market. I just wanted to see what your thoughts were on this. Good or bad for MMA? Just general thoughts would also be appreciated http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=7087 Heres the link if your interested
  10. IMO Tito is a paper champ and it doesnt suprise me that he No Showed. I hope Rashad knocks him out
  11. I'd say your picks are spot on, but I do hope Herring ups his game and puts on a better show
  12. I never had a costume, but I bought a lot of the toys! My mom still has them at home. Actually it was pajama set

  14. well, im not to heartbroken I didnt see it then haha
  15. I saw it Saturday, it wasnt too bad as far as gore goes. The fights scenes where very very cool. I saw some Kali influence but unfortunately I dont know much about Kali to know if all of it was or not. All in all I thought it was a really good movie and worth checking out before it leaves theaters.
  16. Chuck isnt in it, he's helping promote it
  17. I have the graphic novel so I wont spoil anything, but I will say its gonna be a very exciting movie. I dont think bananas will be involved Sohan
  18. Not sure what the deal is with Babalu, he must think he's a better striker than he is. Oh well, Couture takes the night though, that guy is MY hero Hughes has never impressed me much to begin with, GSP will no doubt KO him again.
  19. So I was watching a special on the movie 300 coming up on 3/9/07 and the director mentioned they used Kali fighting in the battle scenes, which will definately make for an exciting movie! Just wondering if everyone here is happy with this or if they would have wanted a more traditional "sword&sandals" type fighting like in Troy or Alexander(maybe Troy is reaching)but you get the idea. What do you think>?
  20. Thats no joke, his website is probably the better bet to reach him
  21. Always keep your techniques fresh Make sure your stepping out of the Ideal phase and in the "What if" phase as much as possible
  22. Interesting topic, I'll start. I actually agree with what your saying. I think what would be a good idea to explore is what the definition of honor was to the people you named. Samurai where driven more in the early days by service to there emperor, in China monks started MA to help themselves against bandits and whatever else threatened them. There were also periods in history, such as in Okinawa, that MA was made illegal by the Japanese. Thats when they started practicing in secret, and most likely being hostile with the Japanese that took them over, same with the Chinese is the 1920s(although thats more recent) It really just boils down to what does honor mean to you now? And what did honor mean to them at that time?
  23. I watched Gina Carano fight, she freakin amazing, and she fights good too
  24. Yeah, I thought so too. I couldnt pass up watching Crocop fight for the first time on US soil. Lutter got submited, who'da thunk it?
  25. Most everybody agrees that distance is a key factor when defending the punch by suckers. If they get to close, in certain situations would warrent that an act of aggression that would need to be delt with by striking first. You have to be able to judge for yourself where this is neccasary or not.
