Bench, Clean, Dead Lift, Squat..how much??
G95champ replied to Phantasmatic's topic in Health and Fitness
Clean is nothing but techinque. The more you work it the better at it your will get. I personally think it is the best lift anyone can do. It hits everything. I have not maxed on cleans since I stoped playing football in 96 however I do work out with our team now and I do 225 for five pretty good. Squat is a lift we don't max on becasue its dangerous. We do a rep of five max on it. I have no clue what I can do now but again in 96 I did 405 for 5. Bench 315 I hit it again last week I have never been no higher. Deadlift we do straight leg deadlifts and use light weight to focus on the hamstrings so I have no clue. -
Most of the time it lasts from one to three weeks just depends on how hard you go. Sorness is weakness leaving the body. LOL.... Its perfectly natural. If you are always getting sore it means your having a great workout. However if it don't pass after a few weeks you may need to see a Dr.

If with ZR440 LOL. Im not really good at jumping or flying kicks. I think most beginners have more troulbe with a knife hand than anything.

I agree with that Bon. I think you need to fail a person ever so often to set an example for everyone else. Thats not to say well little Bobby is number 10 so Im going to fail him. However I think such was the cases with me that by failing the 2 kids who kepts begging to test gave others in the class a wake up call.

Congrats. Don't think we can get another 25,000 in 3 weeks but Ill die trying. LOL....
-
all from our first test at 8kuy up. I don't mean to say I don't grade on techinque but its not what I look for. I want to see if you can carry and present youself in a proper manner first.

This is becomming my home on the internet. I should be in bed now getting ready to teach school but no I had to check the karateforms.

How often do you all fail people? I have only failed 2 in both cases it was students who kept saying when can I test when can I test. I kept saying your not ready but nothing would not do them. So half way out of spite and half way out of being not ready I failed them. My testing policy is like this. You test about every three or four months. I tell you a week or 2 before time you are ready. You tell me after or before what class you want to do it. 90% of my tests are one at a time with only family or black belts watching. I find this better in case you have to fail a person. That way you can cut down on the emberassment. What fails a person for me is the breaking of The Dojo Kune durring your test. 1. To Seek Perfection In Character 2. To Be Sincere and Honest 3. To Practice Courtesy 4. To Show Strong Spirit 5. To Control Bad Temper Don't tell them but for all I care techinque and kata are a secondary aspect to the test. Both students I failed lost their temper BTW.... Just trying to get a new thread started. Lets here what you think. [ This Message was edited by: G95champ on 2002-05-06 23:03 ]

I agree No one udner 16. A car is a deadly weapon so is karate once the law says you can drive a car I say you can be a blackbelt. I would rather go with 18. However since I was just 18 when I made my black belt I figured I would cut them some slack. LOL I hold my kids at 3rd Brown till they become of age.

What makes a great kata (form)
G95champ replied to Taokara's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The person doing them. I have really killed some kata in my day. Espically ones with jumps in them. However a person who can jump makes it really nice. I like kata that are slow then have short quick bursts. [ This Message was edited by: G95champ on 2002-05-06 22:22 ] -
reverse horse stance punch or boxing jab
G95champ replied to Lau gar's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Ever which one works at tegh time is fine. I don't care if you turn 15 flips and flit the guy in the ear if it works more power to you. -
I love Jitte. Not really sure why but I just took to it.

G95champ replied to Bon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Sorry KarateKid1975 lol. When I first started teaching I though it would be great to make a lost of everything I would ask for on each test. Then I ran into the same problem here. Way to many things to write down and say this is for that belt. So now I just play it by ear. LOL. -
Hello

You pretty much got to work it to get it better. The key is not to work it to hard or you will hurt it again. As far as your demo goes. Maybe you could get people to come up from the crowd and teach them some self-defense. Say get 2 people and say you are the attacker you are the victom. Ask him what he would do when grabbed like so. Have the guy grab him and work him though several moves on stage. The crowd tends to get big LOL and OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH when you do shots to the groin. So maybe you can go this way with your demo.

Karate and TKD
G95champ replied to rabid hamster's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Someone has a post here about how TKD came from Shotokan. I think TKD has underwent a lot of changes and is nothing like karate now. However you can find parts of all arts in other arts. So I guess the answer to your question is yes and no. -

Jiu-Jitsu
G95champ replied to muaythaidm's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Jujitsu IMO is not the greatest for the streets only because it may be more than one on one. However if its one on one and you are going to the ground and the man who knows more jujitsu will be much better off. -
Videos should only be used to suppliment you learning. However if you are not close to a School. Then any info you can get from a video, book, magizine, internet, tv, etc is good. However don't expect to do everything in the book and be a good MA's.

If you read what I posted I said I don't think anyone should ever hit a girl. However your friend slapped him first. As far as the law is concerned he has the right to to defend himself. I would not hit a girl but many would. Add to that if he has been stalking her then why is or was she hanging arround him? They are alwasy 2 sides to the story. Although I do not agree with what the guy done I do understand it. Violence is never the answer. It takes a bigger man or woman to walk away anyday.
