how do you like your sensei?
G95champ replied to angiewinter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Both of my Sensei's I love to death. Howie Harvey was my Shotokan Sensei and will always be the one I credit for teaching me. Geary Kanode taught me American TAO Karate and introduced me to a differnt version of Martial Arts based on the nothing is wrong idea. Both men were like uncles to me and I personally owe both a lot which I will never be able to repay. I am the only one of Sensei Harvey's students teaching in WV so I keep teaching for him and I was Sensei Kanode's first balck belt in his combined art American TAO. So I feel that honor to keep his art alive. Both taught me much more than Karate which a good Sensei should. -
Most of us could not leave now if we wanted to were hooked.

Good luck on your search but I would look for a teacher and not a Master.
-
Yeah we teach all blocks as strikes and if you block hard you can take out the persons weapons thus winning without hitting them. Is this what you mean like Jab, bend the elbow into round elbow strike, extend the arm for backfist combo. We teach multi strikes without the recoil.

Much Thanks If I can ever help you just ask.

This is a question none of us can really answer. I mean I may say I would do this or that but you never know how you would react. It all depends too if its your drunk friend or a stranger. My preferance is to block or move and counter with low roundhouse to knee.

Question on quickest way to end the trouble
G95champ replied to Nickgarren's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hope you have more friends than they do. -
If one of your class members goes to the ER its your fault now LOL.....

Not sure what you are refering to. I am thinking you mean how to make moves flow in a nice comb? I have never heard the term but I like it.

Distance as a weapon in itself
G95champ replied to CTpizzaboy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes you can. If you can stay just out of range and make people miss they will hyperextend their elbows and knees when trying to hit you. This will also throw them off balance. Quick feet to constantly change distance and angles is the best weapon you can have because you can give the impression of attacking or running without raising you hands. I say don't block what can't hurt you. If you can learn that proper distancing you will keep your hands free at all times. -
Crucio you better slow down before you kill yourself LOL. Pain lets us know we are still alive so its a good thing. Only time you don't have pain is when your dead. "That which don't kill us makes us stronger" Fredrick Nietchkie (spelling)

I just sent you a private message with my address in it. Thanks.

should you be relaxed?
G95champ replied to rabid hamster's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Relax always relax I spar with open hands. I almost never use fists. This is not a good habbit for people new to sparring becsue you get fingers stubbed up a lot and even broken but as you go up the ranks I teach it more and more. Open hands lets you trap and grab faster. When I spar I don't keep my hands in a fixed postion either I always keep them flowing or moving. This helps distract the other guy and it keeps your muscles for getting tight. -
Like my Sensei used to say if they are to clsoe to kick or punch, then use knees or elbows, if they are to close for knees and elbows bit and pinch.

17 years in the Martial Arts and only 22 thats great. I look forward to hearing what you have to say. Welcome and have fun.

You can alwasy go and have the nerves cut. There is no secret to karate. When you hit stuff it hurts. Pain is something that is differant for each of us. Some take shots better than others. You can condition up to a certin point but pain will alwasy be arround. I tend to find you hurt more if you want to hurt.

Welcome. Glad you finally got in here. BTW for everyone else I am Gehrig Justice. He holds rank under Sensei Harvey but he has trained in my classes as an advacned student and asst. sensei.

Shinsplints hurt. Only one thing you can do for them and that is rest. Take a few weeks off and get them better. Once they are better wear high socks. What happens is the muscle is not attactched to the bone right. The high socks keep it from pulling loose. YOu can also by like a rubber band you see a lot of NBA players wear.

The Jaw??? I find that hard to believe. It may be but I was refering to striking parts of the body. I have yet learned how to hit people with my jaw. LOL

Never watched Pride but I do enjoy the K1 -
I would not buy one. Something that is much better and much cheaper and these large rubber bands. We get them at colleges durring football camps and stuff. Basically its a big rubber band that you stretch with. You hook it arround your feet and stuff. It give you a great streach I have not used it much but my brother who is at WVU now playing football swears by it. I tend to do it the old fashion way. However this would be great for Senior Citizen type students.

Im not a big fan of Royce Gracie. Don't get me wrong he is one of the best arround. However even oh he beat Ken Shamrock I don't think he really faced any of the better guys in the UFC. I do understand why he got out Once they added all the rules it took away from what he done. I wish they would go back to how it was at first but it seems that is not going to happen. -
Being a History teacher and an PROUD American. I agree with everyone one else here. As far as why are our piolots not punished. Trust me they loose their wings a lot. Listen do you think the Pentagon is happy when a jet or anything for that matter screws up That only cost them about 15 million for the jet alone. You know what? Crap happens! As far as your comments about the Gulf War its pretty common knowledge that we killed more of our own men that the Iraqi's did. Yeah our guys screwed up thats a pretty high punishment I think. Lets see prison or living with the guilt I killed my friends. Then if you want to talk about Vietnam try not knowing who the bad guy is. They were our friends by day and killed us by night. Don't call down the thunder because one day you will be happy to see our F-15 Tomcats overhead allowing you to be free. _________________ (General George S.
