I would you say technology is power. They say power Corrupts and absolute power Corrupts absolutely. Robert Oppenheimer helped develope a technology that could destroy a city. (Atomic Bomb) Don't know if technology is such a great thing or not. Bottom line as great as technology is there is always another way to do things. It may be harder it may not. It may be cheaper it may not. However when we confine ourselves to one method we limit our ability to grow and develope.

Nothing wrong with being advanced but you always need to know the old ways of doing things. My point was that you can reach greatness without the use of technology. They are many more ways to get stronger than bench press. Ever meet a Logger. LOL...

We all wear black. As I said mainly becasue it lasts longer. Dirt and other stains are hidden better. Our Blackbelts will wear a blue top.

Yeah I knew that but I did not list it that way. I read the 5 Heian were develped so that it would be simpler to teach Kanku Dai and other kata later on. I have also saw the Tekki kata done back to back. We have also worked the family of Jion, Jitte, and Giin (or Jiin) in a sequence to see how that ended up. I know many of the Kung Fu styles have really long kata (forms) since it is given karate came from Chinia I think it adds up that these kata were once put together in some fashion. However I don't have the wind to do them all back to back well. LOL....

Im sorry I grew up on the 3 Stoogers and Road Runner cartoon. I seen Moe hit Larry over the head with a pan 1500 times or more. I saw Willey Coyote blow himself up 50000 times or more. Im ok why. Mom and Dad taught me the differance. TV, Music, Games, and Movies are not an to blame. Mom and Dad are to blame when little Johnny goes nuts and shoots up the school. Nothing can replace time spent with kids and teaching them right from wrong. The above has become Mommy and Daddy way of baby setting little Johnny the past few decades. Everyone wants to blame something but when you take paddeling and prayer out of the school and the kids don't get it at home this is what you get. Don't blame the game for the parents being lazy.....

I own the game I have beat the game. I have killed all kinds of people in it and yes I have got life filled back by picking up a lady for the evening. LOL.... The game is a lot of fun. However I would not buy it for a kid below HS. There is a button where you can turn the blood down on the option screen. The movie is like a late nite cop movie you may see on USA or TNT. Dirty cops, drug lords, gangs, etc. Again its a really fun game. I am as far right as most will go on the political spectrum. However I stand strong on the Constution and nothing should be banned. The sticker that says MA is fine. BTW just got done watching the Twisted Sister thing on VH1 lol.

I know Kanku Dai is a mix of the 5 Heian kata. However I recall my Sensei telling me that when the 5 Heian were done in a row they were one kata as well. Does anyone know the name of that kata?

How many of you all have to wear a white or black gi in class? I really like the white gi but it shows dirt so bad I make all my new students wear black. My class all wears black except our blackbelts wears black bottoms and blue tops. I noticed Century was selling some wild and crazy colors on gi's now. Anyone use them. They look a bit wild for me.

Everytime I try and play with either kind I hit myself. So the only advantage I have found is that the rubber ones are softer. LOL. Like anything there are pros and cons. Honestly I never game it much thought.

Just keep in mind that this will draw attention and there are a lot of people out there when they see or hear your a blackbelt want to try and prove something. I have nothing aginst tatoos but you need to put a lot of thought into it because it lasts forever.

The one weapon that really shocked me a few years back was the ore. I never knew that was one of the traditional weapons. I saw a guy do a kata. I thought he was just messin arround. When I talked to him he explaind how it was one of the original weapons after teh weapon ban in Japan.

The Martial art movie stars
G95champ replied to Nickgarren's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Jackie Chan? Id say hes pretty good but the stuff he does in films would neve work in real life. Sammo Hung? Don't know that name sorry. Segal? The one you don't want to mess with. I have read every blackbelt test he gives someone gets hurt. Van Damn? would be lucky to beat up Carradine. LOL..... All Fake and tricks. 0-33 and a kickboxer. David Carradine? Fake stole the part from Bruce Lee for Kung Fu no Martial Arts training. Others Norris was a national champ I would not mess with him. Blanks was a national champ don't mess with him either. Jet Li don't know anything about him. However based on what you see him do I figure he has a lot of film help. Don Wilson another national champ Pat Morrittia (SP) aka Mr, Miggaie (sp) no clue -
The old joke is practice, practice, practice

How long does it take to become a blackbelt?
G95champ replied to coltmakai's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Each style has differant guidelines. However I would agree that it should be at LEAST 2 1/2 years. However if you test at every given test it can been done in just oover 2 in most styles. Shotokan It took me about 3 and a half years. I took my time on purpose. I did take off a few months each year for football season when I was playing but I still practiced on my own. American Tao Despite having a black belt already it took me 4 years to make my blackbelt in it however I did it in college and usually did not go to summer school so my training was more like 3. -
This site belongs to Patrick. You will see him before long. LOL. At the bottom of the main page you will see a list of Sensei's and Sempai's that help him run the site. Glad you to see you here and hope you stay a long time.

If you know a bit of what you are doing videos and books can help. However don't think you can watch one or read one and be good. You need a teacher but if thats all you got then hey. -
