  1. well, some schools have a way of tying their belts - others just have belts and dont care how they are worn. Ask your instructor to give u pointers
  2. not really bad form, experienced fighters will do that to draw certain movements out of their opponents- obviously a move they're familiar with, so the fight goes easier for them. I've seen it used against a boxer and it works. but like I said, only a very experienced fighter should try this.
  3. Yeah, I heard some people think Joe Emperado was a founder of Kajukenbo, but he only helped at the first Kajukenbo schools in Hawaii. Seems Joseph Emperado and one of his students trained with Ed Parker and helped with Parker schools(his student Godin also helped with PArker schools also) Siju Adriano Emperado was one fo the 5 men from the Black Belt Society which got together to form Kajukenbo.
  4. I would try to avoid her, if I cant I would either hold her down or hit somewhere where I cant cause too much damage.
  5. Tang Soo Do part of Kajukenbo
  6. Kajukenbo- purple belt
  7. when talking about Parker and Emperado, I think you guys mean Joe Emperado instead of Adriano Emperado. you might want to call the attention to that so people dont get confused with American Kenpo and Kajukenbo.
  8. I practice Kajukenbo Kajukenbo has Kara-ho Kenpo wihich comes from Kosho Ryu Kenpo: My lineage would be.... Mitose(kosho-Ryu Kenpo), Chow(kara-ho kenpo), Siju A. Emperado(Kara-ho Kenpo- Kajukenbo), Sifu Mendez(my sifu). Kenpo Rocks! Keep on training, people!!
  9. no secret, just practice until you get it right:P
  10. MJC The Great its not always a lousy guard- there are some fighters who do that on purpose so they'll be attacked- countering a high kick can be pretty easy and opens up for a sweep so.... dont get fooled
  11. Killswitch engage Cradle of filth anything metal and hard but thats my taste in music
  12. IT isnt a grappling art perse though..... It has everything- from grappling, to striking, etc.... IT still does for a good topic discussion though
  13. While I was an orange belt I sparred with a black belt once - he kept his guard low and I kept throwing kicks to the abdomen, when he wasnt expecting it, I threw one to his face; never even saw it coming..... The black belt hadnt been training like he should have and started training hard since that day:PIF you cant defend right, you are most likely neglecting your training.
  14. PArtially agree with you Sauzin not all Kenpo is the same, but our similarities outnumber our differences. Some have different manners of apporoach. We all train for Self Defense- we all train hard and our styles are tried for efficacy before being stablished as Kenpo Styles.
  15. The people with the most flexibility and not just for stretching legs, are people from Kung Fu, and most I know, good fighters, dont use weights at all because it - according to them- produces some muscles they dont need other than showing off... I dont really care either way, if it really does affect flexibility, but chances are he will tense up for training too fast with weights....
  16. remember, if she has been training since she was 10, she has had a lot more free time to train than most people over 18.... So, as long as she can show that she is worthy of being that rank, she should keep it.
  17. I still prefer traditional Jujitsu - I've heard some schools that have gone soft though..... However, if trained the right way, it is a great MA for self defense
  18. We drink soda, gatorade. Sometimes we eat heavy and drink some beers afterwards(parties after practice) Like my sifu says: we're not athletes, we train to defend ourselves. We might as well be comfortable while we're at it
  19. no, for flexibility do not use weights.... they will make u be more tense. shadow box for speed and flexibility
  20. I've seen some posts on the forums about people who train or have trained in Kenpo and watch and do not speak up when people say it is not an effective art. Now, I dont know if its because they think what they've seen or been taught is worthless, but to me it is an insult if someone says Kenpo is not an effective art - it is part of Kajukenbo- so I know for a fact that it is not useless in a fight. Or is it because there are few Kenpo pratitioners here in the forums??. I want to know, because I am proud to say I practice a style that was born from Kenpo and I dont like to have its name thrown into the mud by saying it is useless. If you are Kenpo and think you can honestly say it is a good MA and very handy in a fight, come on, say it. Share with the rest of us what you have learned and what you think.
  21. I got my first ranks pretty quickly, of course, I trained twice as hard as the people who were training with me, I still do and that gives me the advantage be it at showing what I know or fighting/sparring. It all depends on how hard you train and how hard you want it- me, I dont do it for the rank, I do it because I want to be the best at what I do.
  22. if the kid can show what he/she has learned and is properly instructed, of course..... I know people who've been training since 8 years old... can u say that by the time they reach 18 they havent earned the rank of 2 dan? if they deserve it and can show what they know, it should be theirs
  23. sparring works well for fighting on the street as long as you sparr full contact.... soft sparring only helps you develop a a sense of what a fight should be, but not give you a full insight on a real fight.
  24. he wasnt beat by size or strength , but receive a hit one too many times and you've lost the fight either way, strong or weak opponent. If she is lazy and still got those kicks in, someone needs to start training HARD
  25. I know some girls who can kick butt........ if you dont like losing to a girl, thats sexist anyway. I have had to sparr with a girl, and not for points-full contact-, let me tell you, girls can hit as hard as men, they are more flexible and stay more focused. Get off the computer and go train like crazy if you dont like to lose to someone.
