  1. this sounds like something you got out of a cartoon. now, Chi can be developed by excercises, however, excess training, like what happens in most weight training, will block the flow of chi by tensing a lot of muscles.....
  2. I recommend you train your fighting katas very slowly, concentrating on breathing as in Chi Kung, concentrate on keeping yourself relaxed and breathing without making sound. In that calm, your movements and the right breathing will allow you to discover Chi in movement.
  3. Tai chi has its own way of developing chi, in contrast to karate(in which you have to be tense or focused to find your chi) they try to find their chi while relaxed. I say, whatever works for you. Keep practising and it will get stronger and you will not be disappointed with the results.
  4. "The Way of Energy" by master Lam Kam Chuen - it demonstrates how to practice Zhan Zhuang you can find it at bookstores or amazon.com its a great book and it has all you need to know
  5. also, like I said in the other topic. you train in different schools and you stop caring too much about the art in the style- the philosophy. then it becomes a fighting skill you learned, nothing more.... In my opinion, it is not enough for me.
  6. besides, what happens to phylosophy? if you cross train too much , you are doing it to fight and a true martial artist should have some philosophy to make his style not just fighting, but an art.
  7. hey ,real martial art legends became those legends by mastering their own stle, not cross training but they all made it by doing what they learned the way it was supposed to be learned and practiced.
  8. elbows_and_knees we can agree to disagree because you've probably seen good kickboxers while I've been able to see people practicing hard in Kenpo. Shame you've seen people who dont train as they're supposed to...... I dont mean to insult kickboxing, it is a martial art, just like any other and it deserves to be recognized as such.
  9. Muaythaiboxer - you've seen kenpo people practice light contact - when you are learning to fight you have to start with light contact, and even when you already know how to fight, you practice light contact to demonstrate that you're not a hothead just throwing a bunch of hits, but a fighter who knows how to fight, what to use and is able to show he knows it.
  10. I'm not saying kickboxing is bad, far from it, but Kenpo is more street oriented.
  11. a kickboxer trains by rules and ,if traditional, somewhat like Karate. however, Kenpo can train to be full of hits most kickboxers would call illegal or dishonorable. A series of hits(which might not seem too hard by themselves) can make a Kenpo practitioner a dreaded opponent. Have anyone seen " The perfect weapon" ? the guy fighting in that movie practices Kenpo and displays it very well.
  12. every style can be invincible, you only need to master what you know so you can use it best when the time comes...... can you say you truly master what ou know?
  13. I would, but only if I knew I was faster than my attacker..... you study your attackers weak-points and use them to ur advantage....
  14. you develop fighting techniques which most people dont perfect, then change school- thats poor instruction for yourself... at least reach black belt level to change from school......
  15. just look for a teacher, they are out there and you will love it, trust me
  16. trust me, with videos you dont really learn any internal arts..... if all you want is to learn how to defend yourself? look for a school if what you want is to fight, talk to someone else...
  17. Wouldnt your Sensei at least scold you if he knew how you were building your little brother's "character" ? I think he would.....
  18. kenpo does have a lot of groundfight, but it is not the same as BJJ. kenpo will hit and get away while BJJ will try go hold on to the attacker..... Kenpo, taken to what it should be,will devastate any attacker. Sad to hear your school trains poorly, EndlessDave, I know with your Kenpo skills you could achieve so much more.....
  19. depends on the training. Most artial arts today only give you some physical strength and some agility but you have to train hard constantly. Also, this type of excercises dont guarantee you will have better overall health, they give you physical strength. I'm talking about achieving the highest level of physical condition without torturing ur body and have someone else beat you for using more weights than you. Achieving perfect physical and mental health, not because u torture yourself with excersise, but because u learn to balance ur body into its birthright-correct Chi flow
  20. you can train to use it in a life or death situation in which you dont really have to worry about the attacker, but only yourself.
  21. I've actually been training in Zhan Zhuang for a while now. recently i found the Chi Kung part of it- Da Cheng Chuan training. but I would like to know more about the style as a fighting martial art. I practice Kajukenbo, thats martial arts for self defense, and I think this kind of practice could really get my training toi a whole new level
  22. you do know ur muscles are not supposed to tense at all, right? thats the whole point, to really relax yourself. its not about withstanding torture for long periods.....
  23. actually rojen, that doesnt really sound like Chi Control, sounds more like something else I read......... not to be discussed here, but, keep searching, there are various teachers out there who could help you but they are selective about their students
