I'm not completely sure how its involved, but I read in a health article that cycling a lot makes it harder for you to run, and move like normal. I didnt have time to read the whole article though....

a lot of people around the Forum say that they cant really do a full split so, no, they dont all know what works best. If he did know, he wouldnt be posting this thread.

Its funny, people ask for stretches, and nobody ever describes stretches for them to use

easy, since u seem to be new at karate- do the kata over and over and over again. for sparring, try shadowboxing for your hands, and try to set a goal for kicks- like 300 different kicks, and start adding as you go. Doing pushups, abs, running, kata and the punching and kicking in the air, will make you go through each class easily. after that , have ur instructor give u pointers on how to develop ur fighting skills.

try to avoid cycling though, it's counter productive for movement- not so bad for muscles though. but bad for movement.

What art is better for street fighting?
Kajukenbopr replied to Sinar89's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Sub Grappler we dont live in a videogame, but the only way someone cant find a weapon on the floor is if you're living inthe cleanest city ever. maybe a bottle on the ground, a stick, a rock, even some dirt to throw at ur eyes- anything that can hurt you can make you lose a fight. or even worse, you give him time for his friends to get there..... Also, against small groups, it is possible to fight and win. 2-3 people can get beaten, I've seen it before, and even against more people. Against groups of about 6 or more people winning a fight is almost, if not impossible. -

yeah, i understand strategy perfectly well, but u have to be thinking 2 things, 1. if your opponent has friends around, you will get beat on the ground as you fight just one. 2.if you drag the fight, he might figure a way to beat you or go looking for a weapon -
I need some help toning up and help with a technique.

well, about the right side-kick : talk to your sensei, ask him for help on stretching. seems you have neglected that if you can only kick at ankle level. he will help u out. -
i think it does make me run faster- maybe we are all crazy lol

Swimming makes your body stornger and it also helps with cardio. It is the most complete excercise(if you're not planning on doing anything else).

Western(American) or Eastern(Asian) training?
Kajukenbopr replied to Kajukenbopr's topic in Health and Fitness
you should be careful about running too much.... My sifu used to run about 10-15 miles when he was young and his knees are in pretty bad shape- surprisingly, he can still fight better than most people I've seen. but you should be careful. other than that, great workout, must be hard to tire you out in a fight. -
discipline of your mind is not dragging your body until exhaustion, btw. As Aodhan said, that is just unhealthy

hehe, and here I thought someone had done their homework- its John Bishop, like he would need to study more.... Great post there^ awesome explanation. -
just try it for yourself. I find I can run a lot faster if I run barefoot. of course, like Aodhan said, in the street, I wouldnt recommend it...
-
you have to discipline your mind. You start thinking of defeat and you cant do a thing. As soon as u thought about something inspiring to you, you were suddenly able to move better. and you got mad and felt stronger-thats adrenaline.

you should change your lunch for your dinner - meat at lunch, to keep you full longer and pasta and veggies at night, so you dont eat too much fat at night. If you drink soda, and/or beer, lose it. Bring ur training up a notch. consult ur instructor or a gym to help u tone up more.

instead of the 500 finger pushups(if you are doing them on your knees, its not as hard so....), do 200-350 normal ones. Instead of throwing side kicks at face level for practice, throw them at knee level until you can take the edge out like you should, then work on height. (Every kick should be trained like this so u know you are kicking the right way) try doing 40 crunches sets(5-6) instead of only 15. Do not diet if you dont want to lose the weight. and if this is not enough for you- try weights- go to a gym and start bulking up. For stretching, butterfly stretch and whatever else your instructor recommends. -

not necessarily. Some styles, which I'm not naming, try to drag out fights in order to have it "easier" for them, I guess..... we all try to win as fast as we can but its not always so..... thats why BlueDevil said what he said. in his style they dont drag out fights. -

very interesting. Still, it does mention some very specific styles.... anyway, I can see why weights would be good for strengthening the hands.... Still- I insist internal excercises give me the best results yet -
In my school, we train a lot for techniques too we perfect techniques at practice and train our bodies at home. wellcome to the forum BlueDevil

horse stance builds leg strength, punching in that stance is to learn to throw full punches, not hold them back. why dont they use these in a fight? some postures are used, not everyone finds them comfortable enough to sparr in. Sorry for answering on his behalf.
