Anakin_Skywalker Tai chi does have great techniques, but if you want to LEARN, join a school and practice, show commitment to it. Because reading here wont make u a martial art expert-even less so in Tai Chi. Show your master you want to learn because of the right reasons and you will succeed at finding what you want to learn.

And Bruce Lee died in his 30's. Look Bruce, you have a generous interpretation of the word warrior. Mine is far more strict. While you might find your daily life war-like, real warriors are patrolling in combat zones or walking a beat in Detroit. You might like to cultivate a warrior spirit. This is fine if it works for you. Life can be a struggle. However, struggling to get good grades in school, or a promotion at work is different from struggling to stay alive when you're surrounded by people who intend to kill you. The op stated he was short on funds and in a short time was headed for USMC basic. What might be in store for this individual, could be worlds away from our sheltered existence. I wanted him to be fully aware that the enemy he faces would not think twice about blowing his legs off and dragging his corpse through the dusty roads of wherever the Marines are needed. The op would benefit more from improving his combat shooting skills or buying a good bullet-proof vest than what he might derive from a couple months of Krav Maga and Judo. We all have our paths, if your friend decided to get into the Marines or the army, thats his choice. The fact that he actually gets to be in a hostile country where a lot of people would try to kill him, and he carries a gun to kill those other people at the same time, fine, his life revolves around wars like that. We never forced him to join the Marines, he gave consent to being a soldier.(granted,I applaud his bravery) We also live in a hostile country where a lot of people would kill you or harm you either for fun or to rob you or because he/she got mad at you.Does he live in a greater danger than us? Just because he lives in an implicit life of war doesnt mean we are not at war with our everyday dangers and problems. If your friend wants to learn Krav Maga or whatever other sport. Leave him be, because our soldiers carry bullet proof vests and still get killed. And they are not the only ones who get killed. If you got jumped on the street and they stick a gun in your face you die along with your bullet proof vest. We all die eventually, if he wants to enrich his life with martial arts, he lives a better life for it.

Tell me about Judo
Kajukenbopr replied to Go To Sleep's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
well, most judo for sport is just to take down the opponent. in reality, judo is a newer version of jujitsu- the japanese martial art of fighting people in armor(when strikes and kicks wouldnt work) Everything you would use in groundfight is taught in judo. Its older counterpart Jujitsu used to be much harsher back in its time breaking bones and using small joints to manipulate the attacker. Judo however is safer to practice and effective in a fight. -
low kicks(stomach)should keep them off of you. Also, look for submissions you can use to take an attacker to the ground without you having to go to the ground with them.(using Jujitsu to counter their grabs-specially around the neck area- is very effective). If they are stronger than you and they know bjj dont try to go to the ground with them, or they will dominate you with strength alone.

I know most of you if not all have seen at least one Ultimate Fighting Champion fight. My question today is: what is your opinion in it? I have seen UFC and I've seen full contact matches 1 on 1, 2on 1, and 3 on 1 on self defense classes. rarely did these fight reach the ground, and in the cases they did the fighters just tried to get away from each other to get on their feet and keep figting(also, happened in UFC fights). Do you think most fights end up on the ground? Another point I want to discuss is other than submissions I dont see or rarely any art in their fights. We all get tired, we all get sloppy without training, but how come these people who are supposed to be the best fighters in the world cant block punches like in the arts that they were taught in, kick like they should, or look for something other than submissions in a fight??? I know strength is necessary in a fight, but, when does it stop being martial arts and become brute people hacking away at one another?? Why does UFC change the styles and makes it look more and more like kickboxing/bjj ??? I know those are effective styles, but there IS more than that in the world of martial arts, and YES, they are effective. What is your opinion? --by the way, I know it seems like I am attacking UFC,but, in fact I enjoy watching the fights--

UFC with kungfu only
Kajukenbopr replied to Son Goku the monkeyking's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
using only kung fu doesnt limit you at all. you do however need to train as an athlete should if you want to compete at that level. By the name of your kung fu I can say you have both striking and grappling, but focusing on grappling. Develop some striking abilities too by practicing that part of your kung fu style. Also, if your style has kicks, train in those too so you dont limit your own style, but can adapt it to everything. that way, you have grappling, kicks, strikes. all you would need would be groundfight and I think your master can teach you basics at least. -
Boxing and judo are part of some of the things learnt, under the JKD umbrella . Plus in response to a post about marines and such, i didnt understand why you would raise it. Simply, if one is phsycially fit, there capability to last in a fight, i.e...endurance and so... is grately magnified. The training of the attributes prepares you for real world situations. Push ups train your pushing power, sit ups train your core..essenstial for any martial artist. Cross training in a sport, weights or whatever is a GREAT compliment to martial art training. Sparring is on the menu later without question of course. Hard work is a good thing and part of that is hard training! Judo, jujitsu and Kung fu are also found in Kenpo. Excercise is not everything, maybe he wants to have some martial arts to add to his hand to hand arsenal.Something to focus all the excercise strength not because he has to fight, but because it is not a bad idea to have that knowledge.

Dont really understand your point. Conditioning the body gives you a psychical edge!! What don't you understand? The greatest threats to marines in Iraq and Afghanistan are posed by mines, ied's, and rifle fire, not drunk guys in bars getting in your face. Marine basic training and being in the military will give the op enough exposure to MA's without him spending his hard-earned cash on any pre-training. Running, push-ups and sit-ups cost the op nothing and will get the op in shape for basic where he might learn something useful-like how to stay alive in combat. With the money saved by not studying krav maga or anything else pre-Marines, the op can load up on ceramic plates to upgrade his body armour. Joint locks, chokes, kicking and punching are for pretend warriors like you, me, and everyone else who hasn't put on a uniform and carried a gun. well, thats your point of view. I dont think I need to prove I'm a warrior by being a Soldier for a country. Besides, martial arts IS being a warrior in my point of view because we fight hand to hand instead of just pulling a trigger to kill someone who is 300 feet away. Even a baby can pull a trigger... --not critizicing our soldiers. I'm behind them 100%. but they are not the only warriors in the world--

I dont know about that. Wouldnt it be better to just sparr full contact? that way you learn about fighting and learn to receive a full hit. Unless you got hit without noticing it, because if you are expecting to get hit, you prepare for the pain, but in a real fight you dont always notice when a hit is coming or we would always evade attacks before we get hit. So, in a real fight, when you dont see the attack or get hit without you expecting it, it will be a shock to you.

its not completely necessary though. In China and Japan there were (in tradition) and still are fighters that have never taken diertary supplements of any kind. Even today, there are people who perform like athletes who have never needed to take dietary supplements to compete with other martial artists. I'm not saying they are useless, I'm saying you can achieve the same goal without depending on pills.

Palm Heel Strike Overrated?
Kajukenbopr replied to UseoForce's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I acutally find that a palm strike to the side of the face allows for better control of the opponent after being struck... -
How many of you have actual combat experience?
Kajukenbopr replied to kenpo4life's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
yep, sometimes I feel like getting into fights( too much pride- thats what is keeping mein training for solong; I'm making myself train and keep training instead of actualy picking a fight with someone...) but after having sparred with some black belts from other schools I noticed I have to do some more training just in case I have to fight someone capable...
