  1. Most Kung Fu schools I know in Puerto Rico, give pretty extensive material: grappling, groundfight, striking and kicking, use of the fingers - Wing Chun has all of these.
  2. oh, its just I've heard about it but I havent actually seen it. As I was told, Emperado Method focused on Kenpo mostly, so I thought it wouldnt be too different to Chuan Fa Method.... But it seems they are different.
  3. no, you can go to tournaments and learn form sparring and fighting other styles.... you dont need to train in all styles.you need to try to be the best at the one style you are realy good at. I've trained with other styles, they show me what they can do, I show them what I can do. We stay pretty much the same, but we know what to expect fro each other so I dont neglect my training and I train so I'm able to react to anything unexpected. If I cant, my martial arts training is lacking...
  4. now that I think about it, maybe its a way of getting tense so when you finally let go, your chi starts flowing easier through you.... only an idea.... would need to study it more....
  5. I've always hated it when people try to make that argument... the butterfly kick has been around too - how effective is it? The tornado kick is still around. People still teach various double punches... Longevity is not a means of proving effectiveness. It only says that people wanted to keep these techniques around. well, both the palm heel strike and the butterfly kick are effective- people, however, shouldnt try to overuse it if they dont know WHEN to use it.... If people wanted to keep the technique around, it must have at one time or another worked for them, dont u think?
  6. well, I practice Kajukenbo- 5 styles in one. and I can definitely tell you I could just as well practice Kajukenbo or just karate or just kenpo and be just as good or even better than a cross trainer- I would have even more polished material than someone who cross trains who would be trying to learn something new from time to time without guarantee that he mastered it. About Bruce Lee- I tried to search for info, but some sites say one thing, others say another thing.... It's a bit tiresome....
  7. nice one!
  8. maybe the level of concentration required allows for chi to unblock certain paths between tense spots
  9. Well, you dont really need to go looking for other styles, you just need to get good at one and try to master it. IF you cant apply the concepts to any fight, you are already showing a lack of training. Dont get me wrong, you can admit other styles have a good approach and consider them worthy of your time, but you dont have to learn every style to achieve a higher level than another fighter who only trains in one style all his life. As to his art being incomplete, I'm not saying its not effective, I just think it might have been even better if he had finished correcting his art- people could have changed things about it and made it into what he didnt want it to be, but he is not around to say otherwise.... But since, like I said, I said I dont know the art, I'm asking you guys to tell me what you know so I can learn something about this style's development, being JKD one of the best self defense styles out there.
  10. To my knowledge the only style Bruce Lee really trained in was Wing Chun(kung Fu). Some say he trained in other styles, but I know for a fact that that is a pretty complete self defense style, being Kung fu.... Anyone would like to clarify this for me..?
  11. These are the only schools I know of in the Quebec province: Canadian Headquarters of Kajukenbo and Family Tree Co-Ordinator Instructor: Professor Philip Gelinas, 8th Degree System: Emperado Method & Ch'uan Fa Method Address: Academie D'Arts Martiaux Culturels 1121 St Catheriine St West, #201 Montreal, Canada H3B-1J5 514-281-9928 BARALIS KAJUKENBO (ORIGINAL METHOD) West-end gym,7025 Cote-St-Luc Montreal,Canada Instructor; Costas Baralis Phone# (514)571-6351 I got a question- what is the difference between Emperado Method and Chuan Fa Method?
  12. That is a sterotype- I was a bouncer for years and heard that I have seen 2% go to the ground and that is usualy only after one is too tired and beaten to stand. Why would you learn to take a guy down on purpose if your in a club, in a line , at the subway, at the air port, at a bank.....Thank about it and you will realize it's useless unless the other guy has studied and grapples you. I agree. If someone is trying to use a takedown in a club or at the subway.... do you really think he knows a lot about fighting? no, hes desperate trying to hurt you....and you can avoid this easy. most people wont let another get too close and being grappling because friends of either one would try to get into the fight.....that, and well, it also draws too much attention
  13. Kenpo is great for self defense. If you dont train right, you will never get to develop these skills. but if what you want is something easier to do, look for another style. Kajukenbo is born from Kenpo. All of our techniques are self defense and have been proven effective on the street. We have karate, judo, jujitsu, kenpo, and chinese boxing, all mixed into one devastating art of self defense.
  14. If you want to look for a school out there, look for any recognized Kajukenbo school- they have their differences but they all have to prove effectiveness in order to be recognized as official. We all train hard. Just look out for people saying they have Kajukenbo and are not recognized. I've known of a few....
  15. People always mix those 2 Chow's and Joe Emperado with Adriano Emperado. they should pay more attention to the full names instead of the last names only.
  16. it is a very effective strike- dont u wonder why it has been used for so long, this strike?
  17. so technically, u train in a style that was left incomplete by your founder? (just asking,by the way) i dont really know much about JKD, if anyone could clarify this for me....
  18. I'm living in the today, and today we think before we act. So my mental state is first, physical state is second. I have a reaction time that is conditioned, mentaly. Again mental wins. I can kill someone with one punch I need to know where to hit and have the mental compacity to focus on that spot. Again mental state wins. Finally after the danger has past I legally need to know when to stop, mental win again. The mind will overcome any physical barrier, I learned this in the US Army. If you're not mentaly trained up you will eventualy loose it all. couldnt have said it better myself.
  19. mental- u can train for strength all u want but if you dont have polished material, you are just another punching bag..... of course, one should train for physical, mental and spiritual prowess....
  20. no, actually, it does help a lot with strengthtening the legs, it also helps to lose weight, but there was something about it being counterproductive for movement. something to do with making it harder to run and move. I'll see if I can find it
  21. Yes, we spar with women- I sparred with a black belt and she can fight as well as the guys that train with us.
  22. I dont think so, most people I know who swim are in perfect shape and can run pretty fast. Cant say the same for cyclists though
