  1. it is hard to master- you have to learn how to handle ur weight and your attackers weight perfectly. you dont really hurt the attacker, msot ofthe techniques are pretty safe and will have the attacker get up without too much trouble. other times, the attacker will get hurt by falling onto the floor and stuff like that. the main focus is not hurting the attacker by hitting him but by letting him get hurt with his own energy. quite interesting
  2. maybe someone could use energy to knock people without touching them. but I can almost definitely tell you that you wont learn how to do that from a Jujitsu school.
  3. Chi is phylosophy, not religion. it is in everything in the universe. Anyone can learn to use it. Not everyone achieves it. anyone who tells you that Chi training goes against your christian beliefes is wrong.
  4. If Krav Maga is anything like Kajukenbo and I know it is, it teaches you to defend yourself, no matter what position you are in
  5. ok, u think you are nto doing anything by "embracing the tree" ? if you still get tense on ur back and arms, you havent mastered the position yet. practice and remember to smile. once u truly master this position, your arms gain a lot of strength, remember what you are trying to do is wake up muscles you've kept dormant for most of your life.
  6. well, I havent practiced Zhan Zhuang for too long, but I do train for 40- 50 min everyday. I can hold up to 7 postures for 20 min each. a 30 min cycle of "holding the balloon, pushing the balloon, 2 balloons on water and holding your belly, to return to Wu chi. And I am developing my stances of weight on one leg.
  7. practice with a friend, slowly then free sparring, medium strength then after your comfortable like this then go full fight
  8. wow, the power of chi......
  9. a kick to the kneecap will be considered an agression, even if you do get shoved or surrounded by attackers. But since its school we're talking about- just contact a teacher to let him know whats going on.
  10. It depends on the school. A lot of styles out there today, specially in teh most known styles have deteriorated into sports or have forgotten what a real fight should be. If you are getting into self-defense you should keep 2 things in mind: 1. if you cant practice it on someone, you wont use it in a street fight(you wont know how) 2. if you dont train to fight, you are better off not knowing anything at all- you will get the attacker mad and then you'll be beat even worse.
  11. most people dont just wear tank tops and shorts. or pants with belts that would allow them to kick right. if you're in self-defense, you have to be aware that certain clothes are a handicap in a real fight.
  12. u should try it, but not everyday. most chinese arts dont train to fight, but for the art in it. Maybe you could just get together with some of the people who train with you and try it one day to see how it goes. you will see how you will change the way you dress from then on so you wont be helpless in a real self-defense situation.
  13. Master Jules- wise comment on ur part
  14. dont use it in a school fight- you will hurt someone bad and you will not like the consequences....(mostly legal, doesnt matter who started the fight) Try to avoid fights at school, remember, you have to see the same people day after day after day..... For school fights , I should recommend a soft style like Aikido which is pretty good and wont get the other person badly hurt.
  15. train your fingers, train your hand, train your nails and you will be ok. remember that spearhand can really hurt someone if you hit a soft spot.... and instead of training with a soft target, try a hard one
  16. high kicks can be fun against a slower opponent, but if you're the slow one, you might get trashed. take for example, if someone got ahold of your foot or knee- he could either use it as leverage to get you to the floor or try to hurt your leg. Also, if they take too much time, the attacker will move in and at close range, high kicks dont really work....
  17. My Sensei's wife was one strong girl in Kajukenbo. Most people only thought she could defend herself; noone criticized her. And trust me, she could beat up guys back when she was trainning.
  18. the second school u mention sounds too sporty... go for the one with cops and train all you can. do avoid training in 2 styles at the same time. if you train 2 styles at once you will most likely not defend yourself well.
  19. great way of putting it... you must be a tough one to beat...
  20. Krav MAga is pretty strong as self defense. you will have trouble finding another style as good for self defense(not that there arent any, mind you)
  21. if you can walk, you can train
  22. 1.Kajukenbo/Krav Maga 2.Kenpo 3.Wing Chun 4.Muay Thai 5.Jujitsu 6.Tai Chi 7.Karate- a lof of styles are good 8. Kali, Escrima, 9.Judo 10. Tae Kown Do/Tang soo Do
  23. actually, I've trained in both: American Training when I started in Kajukenbo which allowed me to get muscles and lose excess weight. But I had to keep training to keep it up. Chinese Training- Chi Kung. I was able to get my body in far better shape and keep it that way. my reflexes are better and I dont stiffen up after training. Chinese training worked best for me but I'd like to know what other people have to say about their training.
  24. u made a list of self-defense martial arts and you left out Kajukenbo.... I dont like this thread lol no, but seriously, it should be here
