  1. so are u saying u could bench more by doing chi kung?not exactly.... however if you already did bench press, you would be able to bench with more ease and keep it up for longer. ur overall strength increases, but its not so much as getting big muscles(which wont appear), but leaner fitter muscles which give u better balance and more control of your body. these new muscles which you didnt excercise when benching, will make u feel even stronger. > I know it doesnt sound true, but it is the truth.
  2. Clarence Zhang Zhuang is Chi Kung or internal energy excercise. It combines certain excercises so you can begin to blend your mind into what your body does, thus enabling you to channel your Chi in your body better. >> I'm not saying its going to be dragonballz, you wont shoot lasers off your hands or anything like that. << you learn how to balance your body and train your mind.and you know what good Chi flow does to your body, dont you?
  3. actually it does get relieved, I dont really practice to keep the posture for too long like an hour, but I can keep the muscles in place and relaxed. When you can truly get your muscles to relax, then you will have truly mastered the technique.
  4. so, it seems you only do it for the excercise? or do you do it for the Chi Kung?
  5. There are better ways to build his character: formal training, discipline, teachings, morals, brotherly support. However, by cheering him on to fight, you could just make him into a hothead who could get into trouble. Either that or a bully just because his brother told him it was cool to beat up smaller kids...
  6. Kenpo trains a bit more street- its more self-defense oriented. it has fast and strong punches, low kicks, locks, takedowns, and throws like in Karate. Kickboxing tends to go for sports. The same punches as in boxing, combined with kicks like Tae Kwon Do. Although both train to fight, kenpo does tend to be harder than Kickboxing, Mixing various hits that make any combination a devastating combo.
  7. or make it harder for them-learn to change the pattern in which u move; if u get too predictable, they appear to be faster but in reality they're just responding better to ur pattern of movement.
  8. counterattack is defense, and its a great way of taking control of a fight.
  9. always think of keeping yourself and everyone around safe. IF it requires you to, then attack, but avoid it until necessary.
  10. hey, as long as they dont start the fight, I wont show any agression. however; "They start the fight, but we finish it" - Kajukenbo saying.
  11. 2 thigs, : dont let yourself be intimidated by rank or past experinces, that way, you dont lose before the fight starts. 2.try moving in response to his hits- learn good counter moves to do a split second after he starts to try to hit you. Also, bring your training up a notch. lots of endurance training.
  12. you know, people like that dont get my sympathy at all.....
  13. he should take it easy first, not get beat harder.... learn to crawl , then you will learn how to walk, finally you will run, but all in its own time
  14. I'm a purple belt in Kajukenbo- which is based in Kara ho Kenpo. We pretty much have the same training, the techniques are mostly the same, we add a little bit to make the attacker hurt worse. Good luck with your training.
  15. you learn more from losing than from winning. from your fight, you saw what didnt work for you. If you cant figure it out, you have been neglecting your sparring training. Find a friend and practice soft sparring(without hitting hard) and sparr, sparr, sparr. Dont lose your spirit just because you didnt win a sparring session; if you dont get back on your feet and train again, that is when you are truly defeated.
  16. its a schoolfight- dont encourage a kid to hurt someone like that.....
  17. dont get me wrong- cross training in similar styles like different styles of Kung fu or mixing different styles of Karate, will compliment each other.but I think its counterproductive to train in styles that are too different like tai chi and capoeira, or KRav Maga and Tae Kwon do at the same time....
  18. TaeKownDo is a lot different from Karate, specially if its not traditional Tae Kwon Do..... if you mix it with karate, you might actually get to be a faster kicker and kick higher, however, if you train for both, you either kick for points, instead of kicking looking to overcome the opponent, or you dont kick looking for points.either way, it gets messed up. I can be wrong and maybe you can shift from style to style. most likely, someone starting to learn martial arts will not have it so easy and as long as he/she is learning the basics, will mix the 2 and that wont help with their learning.
  19. well, dont you consider people who drink too much and get into fights dangerous people? and even worse if they do it for kicks. If they like getting into fights , they should train and go into ultimate fighting or something, not go looking for a fight with anyone on the streets, they could really hurt someone or get hurt or killed themselves.
  20. i think it pretty much applies to all martial arts - if you get tangled with your pants because theyre too big or, in the case of women, are on high heels- it is pretty hard to fight when you use clothes like that, no matter what style you practice.
  21. actually, if you try both at the same time, you will see how your training slows down- one makes the other inneffective. But dont take my word for it, you try it yourself and tell me what happens to your training.
  22. Chi Kung- internal energy excersise it is beneficial for health, overall energy, u breath better, your balance gets heightened, ur senses get a whole lot better, your strength increases dramatically, you keep calm under stress...... if this doesnt help u in martial arts, i dont know what can
  23. $300? damn, I get my classes for free.............. my Sensei loves to teach
  24. books: I recommend "The Way of Energy" by master LAm Kam Chuen and "The Way of Power" byt the same author. Both books are great if you want to learn about chi and get ur body in shape, probably even find somethign u werent even looking for but u will like
