I was going to comment on this but BLueDevil already said what I was going to say.

Joe riggs was over 300 lbs and is now fighting at 170 lbs. So yes you can loose weight. Join your local karate school or TKD school and just get in there you will loose weight while your training. Good luck to you.

Patrick, Which submission can you say that was. Tap out do to written throwdown? okay I am being cheezy. That was a good article.

well not strickly taekwondo. It is mixe martial arts after all. lol! Him and david train together, so I assumed they got there black belts together as far TKD goes. I know david annouced on UFC after his fight about his kick on Chainsaw mcCarthy that he is a TKD black belt. -
Rodrigo Vaghi
Adonis replied to Adonis's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
that would be good. Rodrigo is great person to learn from. Alot of DEEP knowlege about how to make BJJ work for the indvidual. He doesn't just do what alot of guys do. Just teach moves that take alot of flexiblity to work from. So diffrent ages, and diffrent type of physical attributes, or lack of. LOL! You can still do the moves and make them work for you -
expression of movement and a better understanding of how your body works I consider that art. I find gracefulness and beauty in moves that are effective and work in in a resisting scenerio. Again Like elbows and knee's said you can define some one else perception of what Art is. I like kata. Espcially tai chi ones. I find it relaxing and I Feel enviorized after the good breathing and movent drills. Also though I can feel good after a good run while I control my breathing during the run. Kata is fine to place diffrent techniaques into the form to pull out and drill on a partner or bag or what not, but like is known when adrenline hits fine motor skills go out and gross motor skills is whats left in a fight. so alot complex moves go out the window and pretty much the simple moves that are praciteced the most is what remains. On that note Kata isn't a big deal for self defense or dealing with an attacker. For the share enjoyement or a place or something you can put the techniques you learned into the kata as refrence to help you remmeber the techniques then thats fine.

riggs has hard punching power. Just needs more experience though and really good training partners to do better. He has gone from a heavy weight all the way down to a welter weight. Riggs was over 300 lbs. So he is definety an inspiration in weight loss. I can't believe that Penn vs. St. Pierre fight. I know they are old fights but I still don't see how penn lost. He bloodied up and messed up st. Pierre but lost. If Penn goes againt either one again I believe he will beat both matt and st. Pierre. His striking and ground skills are better then both Hughes and st. Pierre. Just my opinion

Wow! I took a private lesson with Rodrigo Vaghi, for those of you who don't know him he is a Rickson Gracie Black belt who teaches in Saint Louis, Missouri. He is amazing Teacher, Any basic technique and he will give you tons of detail on how to make it even more better and work for you. Very gifted teacher. Expensive though, but defiently worth it. On that note any one have any experience training with him or train with him?

Even if you have a good fight record in local shows its going to be hard to get into the UFC. Best thing is to have a good Mananger. I know UFC fighters who got in and first starting out in the UFC you would be lucky to get 4k to fight. 2k to show and 2k 2 win. So it all depends! Exciting fights help. Also having a good team to train with. Well known ones is MFS, BTT, ATT and others. Its a full time job and you really got to be dedicated. Start out with smaller shows as an amauter and build your self up. First though is preparing. Learning to defend take downs, sprawl defend take downs from the clinch. Learning to strike from the clinch as well as postional escapes and what not. Wreslting, Jiu-JItsu, Boxing and Muay thai are the main arts in the UFC. You do have others who do judo and sambo also. Hey even George St. Peirre and David Louisue (sp?) are TKD black belts. Both have done a really nice spinning back kick on there opponents. -
Energy used to knock somebody out
Adonis replied to TriStateTerror's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Goku-kamamaha!!!!!!!!!!!! kind of reminds of of stuff you would see on those kiddy Dragan ball cartoons, that my nephew watchs. I am highly skeptical about the touchless knock outs. For the touch ones I seen George dillman do them. Usually the opponent is doing some grab on him. So its set up when he does the move. Most of hte time the final shot is some where along the head or neck. I remember fox news doing a special on some guy out of Chicago doing stuff like that. He tried doing it on the reporter and it didn't work. They braught in some fighers and students at this BJJ school. Stephan bonnar from TUF show was there also. None of the stuff he did worked on any of them. How ever his students went down every time. Video should be still wondering around the web. Probably its on Youtube. -
Thats sort of an incorrect statement wolfen, Based on that your probably thinking more along the lines of the UFC and PrideFC fighters that have sponsers and all they do is train all day. but in the lower shows and shoot some of the people that faught in the UFC and PirdeFC like Jerry bolhander and others have jobs like Jerry is a police officer. You don't have to be on the professional level to be considered a martial athelete if your body is in great shape. I am not just talking MMA here. even in point tournments the people at the top of them, or like the korean tkd teams. Are in great shape because of there cardio and strength training they do. You can still be in great conditioning and be called a martail athelete while working in 9-5 job.

Hey thanks for the info. Where do you train at triangle man or who is your instructor? You been training for a long time. Sounds like it. I read a few of your other posts defiently sound like you know what your talking about. -
thanks for the tip elbows and knee's. You ever seen the DVD "The day of Zen" I think thats the tiltle. Starring mario sperry' and others of the BTT. He had an intersting work out routine. What did you think of it? if you seen the dvd.

Martail Athelete is one I consider training for sport fighting competions, MMA events, or point fighting events, or what ever type of competion a person chooses, at high level comps, Winner can come down to which one is more physically conditioned. ,A better choice of words is physical conditioning. Covering (strength training and endurance, cardio endurance, and flexibility, and diet) having a healthy life style is important for a martial artist and especially for a martial athelete. More some one learns to control there body and improve it the better you can move and peform physical movements. If you train weights properly you won't become slower in fact you can become faster. There is an article in black belt magazine I believe its either the June or July Issue with Pride FC fighter Dan Hendoson on the cover. In the Article on him in Bleck Belt Magazine. He talks about his weight training routine. Were he does light weight and high reps. He said he would do leight weight and do one set of a 100 reps and then move on to the next excercise. This is one method were it helps with your muslce endurance to condition your muslces to keep going and not get fatigued. That Is All, The Adonis

He wasn't totally flat on his back when he attempted the elevator sweep. He did scoot his hips out, then placed the foot on the hip before getting his hook in to sweep him. -
Military members are human also. Besides military they are training to fight as buddies. Usually with minimum of two people. So in the military you got your buddy with his weapon by your side. Hand 2 Hand hasn't been as emphasized as of much until last few years. Alot of the stuff is off of MMA techniques adapted for use for the military.

What kind of Royce will we see?
Adonis replied to UseoForce's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Actually there was video on one of the MMA forums or youtube that show him preparing for the hughes fight. He is working more on his striking and sprawling, be interesting to see what happens for the fight. I think it will be interesting fight with it going to hughes by either Judges desciion or KO or TKO, Royces only chance in my opinion is a sub which will be hard to do on Hughes. -
I like it too, good stuff to know

Alot of BJJ schools now have wreslting mixed in or judo for the take downs. Usually with the gi its judo take downs. "no-gi" its wreslting. Depends on what your instructor knows. -
