  1. Hiya G95. I thought Shotokan did have some ground work? I seen a Shotokan school here in NY that does ground work. Maybe the teacher cross-trained somewhere like you did.
  2. Hiya G95. I have a re-breakable board at home, and (to me) it seems to be the same feeling, weight, ect, as a one inch pine board (9 by 12 size). There are thicker re-breakable boards. I seen one in an MA store that is as thick as two one inch boards (9 by 12). I didn't try breaking it (didn't wanna have to buy it if I didn't like it hehehehe) to see if it "felt" the same, but I'm pretty sure it is. The benifit of having re-breakable boards is that it saves on money and wood. Wood boards can get expensive.
  3. Vey good posts, Ai hate, and Bitseach. I agree with both of you One thing my old instructor used to do, and my new master does too, is nit-pick about certian techniques. The ones that, one day, may save your life, he says. Specially the defenses (from graps, ect). And I totally know why he does this. You have to know it and do it right in class, so if you ever need to use it in real life, it'll be effective. And he doesn't praise you in class. If you do it right, he'll leave you alone and stop nit-picking LOL. But he does tell you later how you are doing over-all.
  4. If you gave me Wushu as a choice ..... Not that there's anything wrong with Wing Chun, but I like watchin Wushu guys/gals.
  5. Cool I'm glad to hear its (Sip-Soo) is still out there. Thanks guys
  6. My only gripe about TKD is there isn't much "ground" work. Not ground fighting, per say, but some ground defenses would be cool.
  7. This is for the TSD peoples. Does your instructors teach the Sip-Soo hyung? When I first started TSD, my school did. I would watch the BB's doing the form, and I loved it, but then my school dropped it. This is for the TKD'ers. Who has the Bassai Dai form? My TKD school had it, but they dropped it when I first started. It must be me. LOL I sign up at a school, and they drop a form ggggrrrrr LOL.
  8. Sorry Kickchick And thanks again to G95 for your advice TKD
  9. Hiya G95. You were lucky Darn. I wish I was that lucky
  10. Hiya G95. Good idea. I talked to my instructor today about it. He suggested I talk to one of my fellow students, who is a physical therpist. I did, and she checked me out after class. She didn't find anything seriously wrong. She suggested that I soak it, and warm up the muscle. Then stretch it gently to keep it from getting stiff and try to work it back to normal. She said it won't happen over night, but if I do this everyday, it'll be back to normal within a coupla months. I also postponed my test on purpose. It was my choice, because my test is in two weeks, and I definitely won't be up to it then.
  11. TKD, I could almost touch my elbows to the floor (standing). That's beyond touching my toes. I could almost do a full split (I get to 6 inches off the floor). I could kick someone in the head. I'm not a beginner in flexibility department. I can't touch my toes right now, because I'm INJURED. When I pulled my hammy last time (left leg) I was more flexible after it healed. And I'm hoping that's what happens this time. As far as huge thights, no I have thin "girly" thights, but they are pure muscle from MA. But I can kick with the best of them. I don't have "girly" kicks, that's for damn sure. Ask anyone in my school. As far a spinning kicks go ..... easy. I did (learned) them in my other school. _________________ Laurie S. 12. Hiya Tessone. Oh good. I can still move it, so it can't be the muscle. Thank goodness. As far as a doc looking at it, can I borrow the cash to see a doc? I'm broke. Anyways, I nursed my left leg back to health, so I can do the same with this one.
  13. Hiya dafabe. I'll have to agree that Thai boxing is hard core, but TKD IS full contact .... well my school is anyways. Prolly not as arsh as Muay Thai, but we do full contact.
  14. Hiya G95. I agree. But I did the same thing (not as bad) to my left leg in my previous school, and I was better within a month. But I know this will take longer. I was also going to get into Judo or jujitsu, but not till my leg heals now. I have another question for ya. I realized I have a "knot" on the back of my knee now. Is that from pulling the hammy? When I walk, I can feel this knot, and it hurts sometimes. And I can feel something there with my fingers. Today, I'm really stiff from my butt to my knee. I hope I didn't "snap" a muscle and it's just hangin out there behind my knee.
  15. Hiya G95. I started with Tang Soo Do (year and a half). Now I do TKD. TKD Mcgee, Thunder thighs???? Tryin to say I got fat thighs? Actually I don't They are pure muscle
  16. Ok, G95. No more Jump axe kicks for a while Yes, I did work a lot on my hand techniques during class and my forms (minus right leg kicks). But I did find out that I could do a side kick with my right leg (the bad one) with no problem. I could never kick high with the side kick anyways. But front and round kicks hurt. That is weird to me. It uses different muscle group, I guess? I just won't stress front or round kicks for a while. I'll lightly stretch and take it easy. Thanks again guys
  17. Thanks G95 I did take class today, but I didn't do anything with that (right) leg, and I kicked very low with the left, so I didn't stress my right leg. It worked out fine. Thanks again for the advice
  18. Hiya G95. I pulled my hammy when I did a jumping axe kick (during breaking). When my leg went up, I heard a "rip" and felt this sharp pain running from my butt cheek to the back of my knee. I dropped my leg (and broke the board without trying, because I was already hurting) and I just stood there. I was a dumb-arse and did another break with the same leg right after. THAT hurt. When I got home, I couldn't sit. No matter how I laid or sat, it hurt. So I guess that's bad. I did very light stretching today. It helped. But if I sit too long, it gets stiff and it's hard for me to stand (straighten my leg). So, I lightly stretch my leg out first before standing up. It hurts like hell, but it doesn't hurt no where near as bad as it did last night. It's more of a dull pain now (instead of a sharp pain), except when I forget about it and stand up too fast ..... ouchy. I can sit without hurting now, and I can walk a straight line semi normal (as long as I don't turn lol).
  19. Thanks Ti-kwon and kickchick I'll try them. If anyone else has any ideas, feel free to post. And Thanks in advance.
