Whats the best brand punch bags.
karatekid1975 replied to Eye of the Tiger's topic in Health and Fitness
This is a little off topic, but where can I find Martial Arts Illustrated Mag? Ok, back to bags. I like B.O.B. If you fill the base with sand (not water), it makes for a great workout. I kick the crap outta it, and it's holding up. So far so good. Check it out -
LOL G95. Anyways, I like that Sai. You are a smart girl

iv'e got my blue belt on saturday
karatekid1975 replied to Lau gar's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I agree with Sai. I was supposed to test for my green belt last month, but I pulled my hammy. So I told my instructor that I donno if I could test because I wouldn't be able to kick without re-injuring my hammy. He agreed. Now the test for my green belt is on the 29th. I'm glad I waited, because my hammy is a hell of a lot better. I can kick normal and it's not sore anymore (except when I try to do a front split ouch). Listen to your body. If you move a certain way and it hurts a lot, don't risk it. There's plenty of testing times. Let your body heal a bit first. -
OMG!! I used to chew people up and spit them out for liking Vanilla Ice LOL (I was a metal head, but now I'm more open-minded lol). Anyways, my MA influences: I definitely would say my TSD instructor (Mr. B). He not only helped me with technique and MA stuff, but he was like a big brother. He gave me advice many times for stuff. I haven't been in TKD long enough to have influences lol

Hiya Sai. Looks like ya got everything covered then. I donno what's wrong with your netscape then Maybe cch is right. It might still have a "bug" in the program that Netscape hasn't found yet.
-
Shoto, Yea, I have ME. ME was a pain for me at first. But it was missing a "patch" (a niche in the program), but ME fixed it and offered the patch, and it's been ok so far. I have to ask my other half how he found the patch for me. I'll let you know.
-
Hiya Sai. I used to. Now I have IE 6 (I think LOL). I used to have problems with netscape also. One thing you can do is delete the program (add/remove program in control panel), and reload it. That usually worked for me. Or you can try running a virus scan. You might have a "bug". Or try both. I hope this helps

TKD/Hapkido
karatekid1975 replied to karatekid1975's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
That's basically what they (TKDT) also said. It (Hapkido & TKD) can be combined, and work well. One reason I posted that was because I wanted to teach both in the future. Then I saw the TKDT article, and decided to post the question. BUT I want to be a great instructor also. I just don't wanna have both arts at my future dojang, I wanna TEACH both arts the best as I can. It'll be several years of training and practice on my part to do so. But I'm up for the challange -

karatekid1975 replied to three60roundhouse's topic in General Chat
Hey, Karatemom. Coolness. Another female drummer I'm thinking about getting back into da drums. I enjoyed it alot. -
I agree with proper technique = power. I never had a problem with power. I got a lot of power for a chic. But when I first started, I had no tech, so I worked on it. After that, WATCH OUT LOL. I moved a 250 bl guy across the dojang with a side kick and I was a 130lb green belt! Now I'm 30lb heavier hehehehe (more weight behind da power hehehe). So, build your technique, and you'll be an a$$ kickin chic Just don't give up _________________ Laurie S. El mentioned TKD. I do TKD but I'm looking for another art to go with it. One with more self defense, and some ground fighting. Would that be Judo/Jujitsu? Or would even Kenpo/Kempo be ok? _________________ Laurie S. Yellow belt/green stripe TKD (formally 5th gup blue belt TSD) [ This Message was edited by: karatekid1975 on 2002-05-31 08:07 ]

I'm really hungery LOL. I like Korean food. Mostly bulgogi and kimchi. Japanese: Shushi, and Saki American: Hoagies, wings, Pizza, and Philly cheese steaks. I'm from NJ, 40 minutes outside Pilly where REAL cheese steaks are made. NY DOES NOT make Philly cheese steaks right. I miss the real thing

Serving Two Masters-Is it ok?
karatekid1975 replied to koreantiger81's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Hiya Chris. You made a good point. I did tell my instructor (TKD) how I felt. That's when he told me about being "loyal" to his first master. The thing is, I don't train in both arts together (only because there isn't TSD here). I trained in them seperate. -
Serving Two Masters-Is it ok?
karatekid1975 replied to koreantiger81's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Hiya Koreantiger. These are good questions. I did TSD in NJ, and I miss it a lot. Now I do TKD. I still do what I was taught in TSD without thinking about it. Only because we (TSD) trained so much in each technique to make it almost perfect. There's somethings in TKD that I find .... well, stupid to practice. I don't do them. Like the swinging your arms way back before doing a guarding block. If that was a real fight, someone can grap your arms. I explained this to my teacher, and he said that each style has it's on reason for doing things. He knows I miss TSD, and he said that I can't serve two masters. That kinda upset me, because I'm not going to forget my TSD master. He (the TKD guy) even said himself that he is "loyal" to his first master, so what does that tell ya? -
I had a finger broken in class (doing block kick drills). I did a low block too soon, and the girl I was working with kicked me in the hand. She felt so bad. But I know she didn't mean it. It was totally my fault. As far as your situation, tell him it wasn't intentional. Like it was said before, send him a "get well" card. That should do the trick.
-
G95, Yes I still take TKD, but I'm looking for "more". What I mean is, more of a traditional art (I'm not bashing the new arts by any means, though). TKD is fun, but I want more "indepth" (mental) skill. Not just physical. Hammy is getting better
-
G95, I know your are a Shotokan guy. I'm thinking about taking it, and I found a dojo here in NY (Webster). Do (or did) you ever hear of Impire Martial Arts? The guy the owns the dojo is Steve Goodrich. If ya have any info, lemme know Thanks in advance. _________________ Laurie S. Apprentice Black Belt Stories
karatekid1975 replied to Mamutti's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Mamutti, When I took TSD, I "helped out" with the BB test. Which means, I was basically a "counter". I would count how many push-ups, sit-ups, ect that someone did. The endurance test was pretty grueling. You had to do push-ups, sit-ups, jump kicks of all kinds, regular kicks of all kinds, jumping jacks, jump rope, spar two to three on one, ect. The next day, you would have to do the "regular test" which was everything you learn thus far (I mean EVERYTHING) from forms to one-step sparring, self defense, ect. Plus do a two page essay. They graded you like this: 20 or so push-ups was a "C", 30 or so was a "B" 40 or so was an "A". The same went for all the kicks, ect. There were different number (grading) ranges for different things. -
I'd be dead meat. I just started to learn it in TSD when I moved, so I didn't learn much. In TKD, we won't learn any knife defenses till red belt (right before black), and black belt. _________________ Laurie S.
