  1. I don't spar in touries. I went to two of them and witnessed CHEATING by the JUDGES. Like scoring their students higher, or scoring someone that hit a non-legal area. One guy got kicked in the nuts, and the other guy got a point for kicking him there! I only compete in breaking and forms (in tournies). Only because if I f**k up, it's all me. 9 times outta 10, if you get a bad score in these two, it's your fault, not someone elses (unless again, the JUDGES cheat). Monkeygirl, tell him that it wasn't his fault in his situation. Try to explain to him about the judge that couldn't count. This might make him feel a little better. Plus the girl was hitting him in non-legal areas and scoring, so the judges were cheating.
  2. Hiya all. I'm just wondering if some of you ever moved away (in another state), and missed your old dojo/dojang so bad that you wanted to go home (back to where you came from). I mean, I do miss my family a great deal, too. But I also miss my old school. They were like my family, also.
  3. Hiya Kickchick. Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty good in the muscle department. I don't want anymore muscle. I'll start looking like a guy! I just have trouble loosing the fat. So, increasing my metabolism will help with that, right? And eating better, of course.
  4. I'm sure there is great dojangs in Korea, but if any of them trash talk like you, then I'd rather not. Remember one tenet of TKD is humility. And another is RESPECT. _________________ Laurie S. 5. I agree with the 10:1. My old school had 3 instructors for a 30 person class at all times. My new school is the same. It seems to work out well. Everyone seems to be happy with it.
  6. I agree. The Coach. If you are too hard, the students will quit. If you are the "coach", the students will love it. If you are too soft, the kids will walk all over you.
  7. Hiya Pete. I agree with the Withers Martial Arts Academy. My school's name is Kuek's (my master's last name) Martial Arts Academy. He teaches 3 arts, so it's the same situation as you. Or you could use the name of the town your school will be in. That's pretty common here, too. (town name) Martial Arts Academy.
  8. This is geared to Kickchick, but any help is cool. She seems to be the "health" person for the forums I know it was mentioned before about how to get rid of fat ..... diets, exercise, ect. But I looking for something for my situation (maybe a certian diet, exercise program). Overall, I'm pretty fit. My legs are "tight." I do TKD 4 days a week, and most of our classes are pretty intense (good for cardio). But I have this annoying fat around my "middle" and that "extra wave" on my upper arms. I can't seem to get rid of it. I do a lot of crunches, sit-ups, push-ups, ect (they make me in class LOL). I heard from people at work that this girl who eats anything she wants, but she don't eat after 5pm. And she is (looks) fit. Is this a cool thing to do?
  9. Kickchick. Same here. But we don't have a cardio class, like my last school had So, I make the best out of my TKD training for both types of workouts. When they do kicking drills, ect. I go all out (to make it similar to a cardio class). When they do forms and such, I go slow for the "muscle" workout. Our warm-ups are also intense. That's a cardio workout in itself LOL.
  10. Good post, Kickchick. I beg to differ, though. Who said that TKD isn't cardio! lol. It gets my heart rate goin
  11. I got mine when I was looking for a new screen name (when I got into MA and guit music). I was watching HBO and Karate Kid for the 100th time. So I stole the name hehehehe
  12. I generally respect everyone (like was said before) until they give me a reason not to. Then they have to "earn it" back. One of my schools tenets is "Respect all seniors and instructors." I don't agree with that. My old school's rule was respect EVERYONE (regardless of rank). I totally agree with that. I have no problem respecting a white belt or a black belt or anyone in between. It (respect) should go both ways, not just for seniors.
  13. That's exactly what I did. I only used enough force to "stop" him (my aggressor). I had to break his ribs, but that's what it took to stop him.
  14. I normally wouldn't like to hurt people either. I was taught better than that in MA. But I did get in a real fight. When you are fighting to stay alive or to avoid being hurt, you fight to "hurt" someone. It's either you hurt them or they hurt you. I didn't let that happen (me getting hurt). It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6
  15. I was thinking about KSW, too. There's a school up here (Rochester area, NY). I can't find Hapkido, so is KSW the next best thing? I'm the type that likes "empty hand" techniques more than weapons ('sept for nunchu's .. sp? ... and bo staff). I also love forms. What kind (names) of forms do they do? _________________ Laurie S. 16. I would pound my dad. He's not a dead beat, but he fights (used to be physical) with my mom for stupid reasons. I'd like to teach him a leason, just once (after that, he won't f**k with me or my mom again). The second one would be the Mcdojangs that make my TKD school look bad. I'd ruff'em up and say "that's real TKD, a$$ hole" hehehehe
  17. Yea, most TKD schools teach mostly kicks. Fancy ones at that. But my school teaches everything (kicks, hand techs, self defense, ect). So it depends on the school you pick. Go watch classes of several schools to see what you like best.
  18. I know this is a KSW thing, but the average for BB is 4 years in any korean art (if not a Mcdojang). My TKD school, it takes an average of 3 to 4 years. My TSD school, it took 3 and a half to 5 years. _________________ Laurie S. 19. I think it would be cool for a demo (not training). But, for me being a former drummer, I can "see" when people have no rythum, and it looks really bad. If they can't stay with the "beat", then don't do it.
  20. Other than kicking drills, I also love forms. Like Sai said, I love picking apart each form, working on each technique, then putting it back together.
  21. I haven't, but I'm in the same boat. I do Kwok Wu Chuen TKD, and most people haven't heard of it either. _________________ Laurie S. Yellow belt/green stripe TKD (formally 5th gup blue belt TSD) [ This Message was edited by: karatekid1975 on 2002-05-14 05:50 ]
  22. Kicking the crap outta targets/bags (looking at B.O.B. as I speak ready for a round hehehehe). Warm-up stuff, I like push-ups, sit-ups, and stretching. I hate squat jumps, but I know they will build my calves for doin tricks hehehehehe.
